Just got an email back that says:

Quote:
At Moorpond School for Girls we like to begin each school year with a fun activity designed to break the ice, ease the transition from summer to fall, and get students in the mood to delve into their classical education. We ask our students, as well as parents and community members, to create an imaginary mythological figure complete with portrait and background story. This mythological figure can be a god or goddess, a human being, or an imaginary creature. They can reside in Greek mythology or in a completely made-up mythology or world.

Email your submission to the above address and we will publish them (with permission) on our website.

We will have additional activities for our student body, parents, and community members to participate in throughout the school year.

I'll update with my response in a bit.

Edit: Bleh I just noticed that was also posted on the main page of the school.

I have a theory as to what the new page unlocked means.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The primordial gods ruled over everything (Mainly Cronus and Rhea) so that could be defined as the ORIGIN. Zeus was the son of Cronus and Rhea hated Cronus, so he devised a plan against his father fought back and defeated Cronus ( causing chaos?). Zeus began with the makings of the 12 Olympian Gods once everything settled (which would be the twelve?). I'm guessing these people want to take down the Olympian gods or something of the like? Maybe they want to overthrow the current gods?

Very Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Got the same reply back from the school too.

Another little thing that's nudging inside my head, the man with the booming voice?
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Could she be talking about Zeus? Or someone like him? I feel like its a possibility but I could be wrong.

So we have Cassandra (Cassidy) who foresaw the destruction of Troy and now we have Helen who was the cause behind the destruction of Troy. Hmm...

Has anyone been working on the "ice breaker" thing they gave us? I did a rough sketch of a creature of my own creation. (It's probably not as original as I think, but I've had real life nightmares featuring this guy so I don't know.)

The link is to my Deviant Art. If that's not allowed I'll remove the link. I think I'm going to email the picture to them though. I might redo it though so it looks better. I just wanted to see if other people are going to submit pictures.

As I mentioned earlier, and Seadevil repeated, this reminds me a lot of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

First, the Immortals are who determine if the school opens. Then we have a list of "historical figures", some of which correspond to the Greek myths? Sounds like at this school, the Greek gods are real. Thus the whole focus on Classical Studies, as well.

It's very possible as well that Cassidy's family was involved with the sacrifice somehow, thus the blood.

Do you think that maybe these girls are all children of various Gods, nymphs, and the like? It would explain the correlation.

The only thing I'm not too sure about is Cassidy's sister. Cassandra had a fraternal twin brother, Helenus. And yet there is the unrelated Helen of Troy, who was considered the most beautiful woman in the world and a daughter of Zeus and either Leda (a human woman) or Nemesis (a spirit). Either way, demigoddess.

Thanks for this post.. it lead me to a new page on the site:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
moorpondschool.org/origin.html

It says:

Origin » Chaos » 12 » Overthrow » ?

does this make sense with the historical references?

As it so happens, the statue in Geneva Ryder's twitter profile picture is the Roman goddess of abundance, of which the Greek counterpart is a group of Goddesses called the Horae, or Hours. They are usually depicted as a triad of Goddesses, one of the most common being those of Peace, Justice, and Virtue.

There is that photo knocking about online which is incorrectly labelled as Abundance, however if you have a look at a post I put up on the day her profile pic changed you'll see that it is something completely different.... Wink

Oh God, that's terrifying, but really good Smile
I've been trying to sketch my creature, but it's not done yet. My creature is suppose to be adorable, but I don't know how to make cute eyes. I may have to turn it scary after all...

So, I finally submitted my creature, a Swolfeer. This is what happens, when I doodle too long. I totally abandoned my first idea and the second and third and then came up with this.

I just got two emails back from the school. So far no real information, but the signature in one of them said:

Vita brevis, ars longa.

Which I'm pretty sure means: "Life is Short, Art is Long." or something to that extent. (I only took one year of latin 15 years ago so I'm a little rusty. I'm almost certain it is Latin though, not Greek.

Beaut artwork, I <3 em! Well, am not disagreeing with the use of Vita brevis, ars longa here or on the email I did not receive. Yet thought y'all might want to know it is originally from Greek & the reason why it's said a lot by tired medical students, interns etc.. Phrase MEANING ETA: Oh, a new & exciting Moorpond Teacher blog post.
