Hoody = Future Jay theory debate

Hoody = future Jay can work out pretty well in the series but I personally don't believe it.

Show me a prior example of someone in the series going backwards in time (and not just having a different perception of time ) and ill lend this theory some creedance. But theres no precedence for it. Its way more likely to be Seth or Brian.

Guys, if the time travel thing is true (and I've always been all for it) what time travel rules do you think we're going by, here? Are we going by Back to the Future rules, where if Jay goes back in time and accidentally has sex with his Mom he becomes his own father? Or are we going by Terminator rules, where Jay has always been his own father because he was destined to inseminate his mother by the space-time continuum?

Fucks sake. I've never seen so much commotion about a theory that's so obviously not true.

Hoody is not future Jay. Alex sees him unmasked and asks "WHERE ARE JAY AND TIM" not "WHERE ARE PAST YOU AND TIM"

It would imply the operator has the ability to transfer people backwards in time which is something we've never seen in the series. You can't argue that he manipulates time so it's possible, because if it was possible, Jay would have found himself in the past at some point in the past SIX PLUS YEARS

Not to mention that characteristically, Hoody and Jay are nothing alike in their actions or the way they go about doing things.

On top of all that, why would Jay travel back in time to 2006, stalk himself, and let himself get involved in all of this? It would be too coincidental for the operator to shoot Jay back into that specific time frame, and not transport anybody else.

Hoody would also be able to travel back in time by the future jay theory logic, and would have just killed Alex back before he was involved with the operator.

Don't create hypothetical plot points to fit a theory, fit a hypothetical theory to plot points we have been shown.



The only way this will work is if they copied the story of inFamous which would be incredibly lame for MH. Guy travels back in time and fucks with/challenges his past self so that his past self will be strong enough to defeat the monster that awaits in his future. In MH case, Jay would have to figure out how to utilize the operator's time manipulation powers, use them to travel back in time, and then make life hard for himself so he will one day know how to defeat the operator. rather than.... just telling himself. See what I'm getting at? In infamous it worked because it was a physical challenge, not a mental one that could just have a relay of information. This theory is dumb and they would never be able to explain it if it was true


I think it's more likely that hoody knows Jay is going to have to end up dead to get what he wants (rid of the operator), but wants jay to find as much of the truth out as he can before he dies bc it's the "fair" thing to do since he went through the same stuff and knows those feels

I'm not going to say that the theory of future Jay is completely not possible, but I would say that it is unlikely. For some reason I feel as if half the Future Jay theorists are also big fans of TribeTwelve, and the other half have good explanations for their theory of Future Jay.

The only reason TribeTwelve brought about time travel is because they worked their plot into a corner and the only way they could get out of that corner was to pull a Deus Ex Machina. Its basically the easy way out when writers write themselves into a corner.

This again? I've already wrote lengthy post about my thoughts on this issue, but in short version:

1. I personally severely dislike the idea and find it cliche and lazy
2. There is no evidence for this to be true, just suggestions on the same level as "Jessica being a guy who made plastic surgery" theory.
3. It's going against Marble Hornets aesthetics.

Agree it's very far-fetched, and the aesthetic of MH is much more Memento (trust, memory, hostility, etc) than Primer (poor man's time machine). It's almost certainly not going to be Future Jay. So that means Hoody is someone that we either don't know (wha?) or someone we do know (almost all theories to this point).

Both non-time-travel scenarios are going to require a lot of explanation, though not as much as a time travel explanation. Still, we'll have to know, or have guesses at:

How Brian/Seth/Sarah/whoever survived Alex making them "gone" after MH stopped filming (or why the person we don't know got involved at all)

Why and how and when they turned into Hoody

How Hoody knows so much about where everyone is all the time

What Hoody wants from The Ark, what his plan is

We don't know much, but here's a wall-o-text version of what we do know:

Hoody took over the TTA channel at some point. (Using "he" from here on out for simplicity.) Then he went to return Jay's camera after his major Operator encounter in Rosswood. He watches Jay and Alex talk outside Rosswood from under a tree. Then, once Alex is full proxy, he tries to kill him with Masky with a rock (after this, Alex kills Bruce and tries to kill Jay, which might be why Hoody tried to take him out).

Then nothing until he and Masky kidnap Jessica from the hotel as Jay is trying to sort out what had happened over the last 7 months. Instead of rescuing Jessica, Hoody nearly gets shot by Alex, rescues Jessica from Alex, beats up Alex in the tunnel... and then survives and gets away.

Starts to make creepy TTA videos targeting Jay. When Tim and Jay are checking out the hospital, he writes "HE IS A LIAR" and "FOLLOW ME," then shows them where the maintenance tunnel is by fleeing down it. It's likely he's the one walking around upstairs when Jay gets Tim's old medical records, which Hoody planted, along with the photo of Tim and Jay fighting in the parking lot.

He then films Tim taking his medication at his house. Then sneaks in, takes the medication, hides, films Tim have a seizure, and then tells Jay about it via video. He and Masky go back to Rosswood, and both mess with Jay. Something happens where Tim has the tape of Jessica's kidnapping and possible demise ends up in his pocket, and Jay wakes up in the Hoody Hut, with non-Masky Tim outside. When Tim comes back from the Slendyverse, Hoody is there to rescue him from Alex, and they both threaten Alex (Tim with his fists, Hoody with the gun) until the Operator comes and they flee. He hides the tape for Jay to later find in the hospital. He loses Jay and Tim the next time they go to the hospital and follow him.

He hangs out at his hovel, takes off his mask, drinks some water, then hears Alex sneaking up and gets accosted, smiling when Alex wants to know where Jay and Tim are. Flees Alex. Eventually goes back to the hovel, gets the gun, sees he's low on pills, coughs a lot, then walks to Tim's house to steal some more. Makes sure to show that Tim still has the Jessica tape, and then flees when Alex crawls out of the attic.

Possibly comes back and kidnaps Alex, leaving a note with the college address saying he has him, with a photo of Amy. Tim's retrieval of the Jessica tape drives Tim and Jay apart. After Tim ties up Jay to keep him home, Hoody comes back and... moves a knife from a drawer (that Jay could have hopped over to) to the floor next to Jay, inspiring Jay to escape, find his car, and drive to the college. Hoody beats Jay there (fast walker?), gets seen by Jay in the college, flees, coughs more, flees, then disappears.

Possibly releases "Quadrant"?

Then peeks at Tim after Jay's fate is revealed, runs away.


So Hoody:
Attacks Alex a lot without much success, even with a gun

Tried to save Jessica from Alex

Has always been partners with Masky, and went through quite a bit to get Tim to revert to Masky after Tim started to pull his life together. Seems to try to remind Tim about things. Does not like Jay and Tim playing detective together.

Tries to get Jay asking Tim questions, or at least question what Tim's saying. Still, he went to rescue Tim from Alex.

Tread carefully on this subject. I'm inclined to simply merge it the general discussion thread, but keep in mind that this theory is still considered unfounded speculation by a majority of posters.

I really like this theory, although there are a few holes in it. Did anyone else almost cry when Jay got shot ?
