I've always wondered about the Operator's motivations.

Particularly I think that it is somehow attracted to people in mental distress.

We have hints that it was at the mental hospital when Tim was there.

Perhaps it attempted to latch onto Alex because he was experiencing stress due to his movie and then it followed him after letting up on Tim.

Tim mentioned that before this that he formed his first real friendship with Brian. It is possible that this friendship made Tim a less interesting target or Tim's meds may have driven it away by making Tim less susceptible to its influence.

Which perhaps means that the reason Alex attacked people may have been a last ditch attempt to pass the Operator to the next target whereas he was simply becoming more of a perfect target for the Operator. Until he moved away, he separated himself completely from his college life and began living with his girlfriend. Perhaps the Operator couldn't interfere with him because of this.

The Operator could basically be the personification of untreated mental disease. Something that is always there driving you further down the rabbit hole. Something that cannot be reasoned with or escaped, but may be suppressed with help.

That's... um... not something I'm sure I'd subscribe to , but definitely one of the most interesting theories I've heard on the matter. And not without merit. A derivative thought- TO isn't attracted to people in mental distress, but rather feeds on their insanity. That's why it tends to just stand there creepily rather than actually do anything- it's just trying to drive them insane enough to keep itself fed.

Though that doesn't really explain why it's interested in taking Brian, or Bruce's corpse, or Jessica's maybe-corpse, etc. Hmm.

Personally, even though I understand why some people would rather TO remain entirely enigmatic, I disagree. I don't think we should answer every question about it (hell, I doubt we have time to do that), but I'd like to at the very least know its intentions if not the motivation behind those intentions. Like, if it's just a being out to survive, and its actions are just "eating" in some way, then I'd want that explained, but if its actions are part of some plan with an actual end goal, then I want to at least know what that plan and end goal are.

Basically, we should at least be told what it's doing, even if not its motivations and backstory. Although I personally would not mind if they at least imply those things to some degree, even if they don't make them explicit.

I always just assumed he focused in on Alex bc Alex had filmed him on camera and he didn't like that somebody knew of his existence. If Seth is TTA, it also explains why he's involved too, as Seth was filming the most out of anyone. Also if he was looking at the footage they shot for the movie he'd have seen the operator numerous times around Alex way before Alex ever did, explaining why he was filming alex and jay in "exit"

The only other option I can see is that it was truly random, as Alex had no significance over anyone else during filming. We'll never know the answer anyway.

Or, if you want to take 37's implied message into account, TO had been following Alex years ago and had just found him again after a long time. Which begs the question why he was following him to begin with, or why he was following Tim, but that's nonetheless another option.

I just noticed something. Now that we've seen this video, go back and watch the TTA video Display. It gives pretty blatant hints about Jessica and the tunnel. Of course, I didn't notice Jessica's face in there until I read the thread and saw the screen caps someone was kind enough to post, but it's there.

Okay, here's some food for thought. ToTheArk stopped uploading videos during not just the 7 month gap, but throughout Jay's stay at the hotel. A very long time ago, I thought the reason TTA started talking again as soon as Jessica disappeared was that TTA might be Jessica, but it's been apparent for some time now that this wasn't likely, so I assumed there wasn't any particular reason for this lengthy silence.

Now I'm thinking, maybe Jessica's death/kidnapping is in some way connected to TTA's return to YouTube?

Not necessarily likely, of course, seeing as chronologically quite some time passed between 76 and the upload of the first S2 TTA, but just a thought.

Not all of us read the whole thread. It snowballed so fast that I ended up skipping pages 10-20 or so. I don't recall anyone discussing Display so far. Conversion, yes, but not Display.
