There should be more people at the Hub. The Hub feels empty.

That's an overdramatization. Sharing a viewing of a piece of media that you bought a copy of is not the same as stealing the content. It is specifically not a copyright violation to view content you purchased with a small group of friends, as long as the content is not distributed or copied at or after the viewing. Piracy is not the word for what happened, and that is a rather serious accusation that is legally unfounded.

I'm not an expert on copyright law - but surely showing a few friend's in your home a film and it's special features is quite different from streaming the features online via a chat room?

While I'm sure that you guys were planning to buy the DVDs and all that, it wasn't a great thing to do, but I think everyone should move on and join the party Smile!

Rolling Eyes

I can see it happening from a mile off. Three or four posts from now this is going to explode into all out keyboard war over a petty squabble again. What's with all the goddamn drama here recently? What's happening to this forum? Remember when we used to get along? D:

How so, in this case anyway? The chatroom in this scenario wasn't really much different from showing a group of friends in your home. I imagine travel arrangements weren't readily available for everybody to come to Mr. Digsby's home to watch, so he settled for an alternative. And I imagine everyone there was able to be trusted to not screen record the features or anything.

Good point from Sha Noran, I was actually agreeing showing the features wasn't the best move until that post.

Disclaimer: I Am Not a (Copyright) Lawyer

More than a few copyright lawyers have stated that they view broadcasting over the Internet tantamount to public or commercial display or use. However, I don't know of any court cases where TheOperator's argument was used as a defense, so I can't cite judiciary opinion on this.

While I don't believe that the publisher Troy and Kirill went with has the same kinds of legal prowess as say, Vivendi, they have gone on record before requesting that the bonus features on the DVDs not be shown online. They consider those features to be DVD exclusives.

But as ledzepfilm has requested, it's time to stop that discussion.
