[Trailhead] somasystems.org / nextfrictionalgame.com

Frictional Games (creators of Penumbra and Amnesia) posted this tweet:
https://twitter.com/frictionalgames/status/383978027148775424

somasystems.org just is just a frame over http://nextfrictionalgame.com/ with the title "SOMA SYSTEMS " and the meta tag "Internal Soma Data Systems. Enter at your own risk."
Additionally, there are the following HTML comments:
<pageok>
<04>
<!-- -->

The progress bar goes up to 39%.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The background has cut pieces of text. Putting them together yields this:
http://s14.directupload.net/images/130928/9jdng8bp.png
"COGITO ERGO SUM"

The text under the exclamation mark seems to be SYSTEM FAILURE.

I didn't check for anything else for now.

Have fun!

PS: It's not the same as the old one here: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=34112

EDIT: It seems to slowly progress further. It's now at 40%. The number is loaded per AJAX from http://nextfrictionalgame.com/script/progress.php

4chan reference to somasystems.org???

The original 4chan entry has gone but as far as I can tell this links to Anime Weekend Atlanta - http://inagist.com/all/384090429450616832/

7 hours ago - Our 4chan: The Official 10th Anniversary Panel is taking place at Anime Weekend Atlanta ..... It's the same thing as http://www.nextfrictionalgame.com/, but different name. Btw hopefully "Soma Systems" won't be the name.

I'll try and listen in a couple hours to see if they mention anything just in case.

The mandarin in the bottom left of the loading box is
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
右列(Yòu liè)

which translates to:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"Right column" or "Right row"

The mandarin on the top right is
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
出 (chū)

which translates to:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"out"/"go out"

Not sure of significance...
Note: Progress at 55% now; at this rate, it should be done in about 1.5 days.

Well, 100% reached - it now shows "Website Disabled".

The source code of somasystems.org now has a changed HTML comment:
Code:
<pageok>
<03>
<!-- -->

(The forum seems to corrupt those HTML comments)

EDIT (since 13:02 GMT): both somasystems.org and nextfrictionalgame.com are changing between No response, HTTP 403, and "Website disabled".

EDIT 14:06 GMT: somasystems.org stays at HTTP 403, nextfrictionalgame.com is back with the old progress bar - the progress does not load, though. Sad

EDIT: Oh, there was another hint on twitter! https://twitter.com/frictionalgames/status/384269908789309440

Moving the top part and the small bottom part of the text to the right yields this:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://s1.directupload.net/images/130930/txbwvjoh.png
It looks like the text is overlayed with itself, moved a bit to the right...

The letters could be:
T 2 C/G 0/O H P P
or something like that - maybe someone can read more out of it?

Maybe it is something like T2GO.PHP?

EDIT:
@aklreaxmer:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Maybe it is this:
The first mandarin text can be written as Yòu liè. Maybe "You lie" in english is meant?
So it could be "You lie. Go out."

EDIT: The progress is back at 0% because
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the progress.php spits out a progress over 100%, currently at 104%.

That's exactly what I was getting last night. Tried several ideas in Photoshop and all looked the same in the end. The first half is much easier to pick out than the second. Tried that as a URL last night as well, obviously to no avail. Not sure if there is anything cut off the right side or not.

Seems they are getting a big DDoS attack. :/

EDIT: nextfrictionalgame.com is back - at 99%.

Something happened!

somasystems.org lets us know: "Booting in progress..." Page title: "SOMA: Booting..."

nextfrictionalgame.com is down for now back at the 99% status.

It seems to be in a kind of loop...

somasystems as well as nextfrictionalgame point to the same old progress bar at 95%.
No frames or redirection involved.

The only thing that has changed is the favicon, it seems.

Edit: Tweet confirms further booting:
"Seems like dark forces have been against us. Despite that, servers are up again and booting continued. ETA: 5 hours. http://somasystems.org/"

Hey guys!

I just registered so I can discuss about the ARG.

About 2pm (time of middle europe) the progress was finished.
Just visit the website and see! Don't forget to watch the interesting video.

After you read and watched everything, look at this picture. It is the background of the website that continuously changes.

http://somasystems.org/gfx/recovery/cf-05-darker.png

Maybe we can put together the text so we can read it.

Also, the corrupted text can be found here:

http://somasystems.org/gfx/reader/corrupt-1.png
http://somasystems.org/gfx/reader/corrupt-2.png
http://somasystems.org/gfx/reader/corrupt-3.png
http://somasystems.org/gfx/reader/corrupt-4.png

The last corrupted text/image you can see on the website is corrupt-1.png again.
I don't know if the images have a special meaning or are just gibberish.

EDIT: Can someone maybe save the important files/images, so we still have access to them when Frictional Games changes the website again?
I really have to go now, I can't do it now. Later I will try to decipher the text of the background. But I don't really know how..

No need for that, it can be easily read without changing anything:

response to reality to
go insane."
Philip K. Dick

corrupt-2.png seems to just say
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
CORRUPTED

corrupt-3.png and corrupt-4.png seem very similar, I'm trying to get something out of that.

EDIT: Those PNGs are indexed 8-color bitmaps.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If you set all colors but the seventh to black on corrupt-3.png, you get this: http://s7.directupload.net/images/131001/e9kloivc.png

EDIT: I'm getting somewhere! corrupt-1.png:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://s1.directupload.net/images/131001/p953rsm7.png

EDIT: This method doesn't seem to yield anything special for corrupt-2 and corrupt-4. Sad

I don't know what to do next, searching in the source code was the only thing I could do. Seems that I have to wait for the next case file to be able to help actively.

Well, it seems like the corrupted images don't have any hidden message, do they?

I found a way for me to be useful again Smile

The second chinese letter seems to mean "right" or "the right".
See here:
http://www.nciku.com/search/zh/detail/%E5%8F%B3/1318558

The third could be this one:
http://www.nciku.com/search/zh/detail/%E5%88%97/1309565

The forth may be this one:
http://www.nciku.com/search/all/%E5%B2%80

I don't know what sense it makes, because each chinese letter has many meanings.

I'm not sure about the first letter, it COULD be this, although it is a bit different.
http://www.nciku.com/search/all/%E8%B2%A2

By the way, the letters I meant can easily be accessed with this link:
http://www.nextfrictionalgame.com/gfx/reader/Document-Top.png

EDIT:
The progress on recovering files took about 12 hours to get from 0% to 7%. So it will need about 7 days to complete..

@Zockerfreak112

Yes, we were discussing the chinese text earlier. You nailed the translations.

The pinyin (romanization of chinese characters) for the second and third characters is "Yòu liè".
@SeriToolsDe proposed that this could be taken to mean "You Lie" (english).
Also, the first character is definitely the one you linked to. Look in the parentheses. This is the traditional character, the one outside parentheses is simplified mandarin.

So, now we have english translations of all characters: "Tribute", "Right Column/row" (2nd and 3rd char.) and "go out". Doesn't make much sense as a sentence (Google Translate yields "right tribute list").
