The Isis Adventure & Puzzle Nicely built tricky puzzle On Jonathan Ross last week I saw a very nice looking and supposingly very difficult puzzle called the Isis, so whilst I was down in London for CubeFest I popped into Selfridges to get one. They're rather pricey, but I can see why, they're very well built )about 1kg of metal) and the internal mechanism sounds pretty complicated.
click here for image goodness (and superlong URL)
The instruction book contains 10 hints which have been encrypted (they sell the keys) but they're pretty easy to decrypt by yourself. However the puzzle is still tricky to open even with the hints (I've not managed yet... Grrr...)
Anyone else got one?
P.S. Expect airport security to have a good poke at one if you try and take it on a plane

That does look nifty. They are giving away free ones to those who can solve a geo-caching puzzle first (tho you have to be in the UK to do it )
You know, if anyone finds one and wants to give it to a gal across the pond, I can trade you an original drawing by a New York artist of a sad boxing catcus with stink lines (promised to one day be worth 10 times what I paid for it). I'll even throw in the mystical feather that was given to me by the artist as well. How could you possibly go wrong with that?

I have One Help with decryption I have just bought one of these, after being beaten, by about 30seconds, to one of the free ones planted in delamere forest, here in the UK.
I could do with a pointer on how to start to decrypt the clues. Maybe a link to a site with decrytion methods.
Thanks in Advance

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
They're all simple substitution ciphers - guess a short word with a pretty easy to indentify pattern of letters which is likely to appear in the clues and start with the clues which mention it

Thanks Solved the clues now onto the puzzle Thanks for the heads up, I was trying all sorts of different ways.
I've got all 10 solved now, even if one or 2 of the clues do have mistakes in them.
Now onto solving this sphere. Wish me luck
Thanks Again

If you make any progress on the first stage I'd love a hint...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I just can't get the 3 ball-bearings to be heard and I've spent hours trying every combination.

Hieroglyphs Started on decodeing them Hi,
I've made a start on decoding the Hieroglyphs. Do we know if each isis has the same symbols on it?
I will post the symbols from my isis here so that others may compare with there isis.
I will use a font that I have found http://www.jimloy.com/hiero/egypt0.zip
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Just copy the following into word and change to the new font above.
Plunger (I Guess these are all the same)
BPBP
Starting with the "Placenta" reading from right to left
Ring 1
NU_ILJAK
Ring 2
NU_ILJAK
Ring 3
NJUEATLT
Note these are not translations. But the plunger obviously translates to ISIS
Can others please post there symbols here too.
Thanks
Kevin

Hi guys i just picked one of these up the other day and only got as far as working out the clues.
Looking at what you posted my isis has exactly the same symbols as kjtaylor13's one posted above.
on the clues in the book i've got the all translated perfectly apart from clue 1 check spoiler for a bit more info please.

from what I can make out it was something like "to begin you just need the plunger facing north__r_s"
so could any one help me clear that clue up as i think theres some letters wrong and i can't fully make out the last word.
Cheers.

how you getting on with it ? at the moment i've been playing with it twisting the rings clock wise, counter clockwise , upside down, right way up. with the plunger pressed etc but don't seem to be getting anywhere apart from a bad crap lol
any tips before I attempt to sneak it into the hospital and get it X-rayed

Not very well at all
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It's hard to tell if two or three ball-bearings are moving, but I think it sounds different if you hold it upside down.

Yeah same here not sure if theres just the 1 ball at the moment, i've noticed that if you turn it upside down and listed to the balls in side and slowly rotate/move the ball around you can make the ball bearing sort of sit in a little hole inside stopping it moving
