CONTACT - AIM Convo avec Marcus

Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum. It's wonderful to see so many other people that are interested in getting to work with TOBI: he's going to revolutionize the future, I know it.

I just talked to one of our potential bosses.

Here's the conversation I just had with Marcus:

SawftnSweet (8:21:50 AM): Hello, Marcus. I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Elizete. I recently applied for a position with your company.
MarcusThesburg (8:22:36 AM): Hello, Yes, I just got you app a few minutes ago.
MarcusThesburg (8:22:44 AM): How Are you?
SawftnSweet (8:22:55 AM): I'm doing very well, thank you. Yourself?
MarcusThesburg (8:23:30 AM): Doing ok, got up early to get a little work done so I could spend my day golfing before lunch.
SawftnSweet (8:23:53 AM): Sounds like a plan.
MarcusThesburg (8:24:41 AM): I wish I could golf the Florida courses... I envy you.
SawftnSweet (8:25:28 AM): Yes. I actually lived in a town with 7 different courses. The benefits of a retirement town I suppose.
SawftnSweet (8:25:30 AM): Any luck teaching TOBI to "beg" so to speak? Have you managed to program to ask first?
MarcusThesburg (8:26:59 AM): Well, I think TOBI is getting closer, We are teaching behavior. YOu can't express rules or morality to a program..... You have to teach repition.... You do this, you get that...
MarcusThesburg (8:27:42 AM): That is working, but slowly. You can't really program the cause and effect to be learned over night.... They have to be sewn into the GA
MarcusThesburg (8:28:10 AM): GA is Genetic Algorythms
SawftnSweet (8:29:27 AM): Like Pavlov's dogs: bells=food
SawftnSweet (8:29:48 AM): That's understandable
MarcusThesburg (8:30:07 AM): Exactly. Hard to teach unless you make it instict. And instinct is in the genetcis
SawftnSweet (8:31:11 AM): Well, I suppose that's the advantage of AI. TOBI's one computer you can teach.
MarcusThesburg (8:32:03 AM): Yes, kind of. How is Part 1 coming for you?
SawftnSweet (8:32:36 AM): Quite well, actually. I finished about half of it before hitting the sack.
MarcusThesburg (8:33:23 AM): Good GOD!!! I couldn't even do one question in about 4 hours.
MarcusThesburg (8:33:44 AM): That is the kind of researcher we are looking for..... good job
SawftnSweet (8:34:28 AM): Ingenious idea, I must say. There are an extraordinary number of people out there with the ability to retain what's fed to them in classes, but without the capacity to go out and learn for themselves.
SawftnSweet (8:36:26 AM): Just out of curiousity, will we potential employees have the chance to meet Marty and Jude any time soon?
MarcusThesburg (8:39:33 AM): Jude is always available via email. He plans to do some conferences for some programmers. Marty is always doing his own thing and never checks his email. In fact, we have to pretend we are him from time to time.
MarcusThesburg (8:40:09 AM): But, he promised to do a demo in Germany. An AI demo for a friend of his.
SawftnSweet (8:42:25 AM): Haha. Marty sounds like a friend of mine. Sounds good. I'm curious to meet them as well. Of course, I assumed we'd be dealing mostly with you from the get-go.
MarcusThesburg (8:43:51 AM): Yes, I handle the business end..... That has always been the way it works. Even in college. I never did my own homework. And we "handled" the tests
SawftnSweet (8:44:55 AM): Yeah, I catch your drift. Any regrets taking up a more "corporate" career instead of being on the proverbial "front" of the research?
MarcusThesburg (8:45:40 AM): No way, to be honest I got lost in C+ yesterday.
MarcusThesburg (8:45:50 AM): I really know nothing about programming
SawftnSweet (8:47:59 AM): I understand that. I'd zone out in basic. That's why I decided to take up a new focus in International Affairs. Now with everything going on here, in Spain...I'm really glad I did. I still like the technology end, though.
MarcusThesburg (8:48:58 AM): Well, you can have it, I just sell it.
SawftnSweet (8:49:29 AM): Right on.
MarcusThesburg (8:50:08 AM): Well, I am finishing up here.... On to the course... Did you need anything else?
SawftnSweet (8:50:29 AM): I just had one last question: I know this is probably a sensitive topic, but how is Jude handling the whole situation with his parents? It must be hard for him.
MarcusThesburg (8:50:47 AM): Well, wow
MarcusThesburg (8:51:04 AM): um, he's ok..... I guess as good as we can expect
SawftnSweet (8:51:58 AM): Yeah. It's sad, but that's life I suppose.
MarcusThesburg (8:52:22 AM): Sorry, I just don't feel real good getting to indepth on that one
SawftnSweet (8:52:49 AM): Well, sorry to end on that kind of a note, but I'll let you go. Don't want to keep you from the green.
MarcusThesburg (8:54:47 AM): Oh, I have one more person I need to IM then I am off. (Told you that so you wouldn't think I was trying to avoid you online)
SawftnSweet (8:56:00 AM): Thanks. I appreciate the regard. Good-bye.

I had noticed the date that the news story about Jude's parents came out (Feb 18) {http://www.amboymonthly.com/20040218.htm} was the same day that Marcus and Marty demonstrated TOBI at Washington State University {http://www.ideltech.com/news.htm}. It's too bad Jude wasn't there, since he's the one that is really leading the technical side of the project. Poor Marcus and Marty must have been hard up to answer questions related to the actual development of the software.

I think the AI demonstration in Germany will be interesting. It's funny how many references to Germany I've come accross. The Racey family is German (Hans Racey was the soldier that returned from Iraq), and Louis Guntrum wine is German. Any other references to Germany you guys have found?

Wow, that was quite the conversation. I'm impressed. I had been holding off on adding Marcus to my buddylist (I wasn't too sure I wanted to jump minto this at first). Now I wish I had gone ahead. It seems like a wealth of information there.
