So I sent in 1, and got the reply
Quote:
A good choice indeed.

Although I think there are better numbers.

Seek out my response to those who offered assistance early - perhaps you will begin a new journey.

Sounds like we are out of pieces to get and zero's number wasn't just far out, and stressing that we need to find the responses from you guys really suggests we've already got everything we need for this puzzle.

"Millennia ago an ancient rose.."

Consecutive words from each statement seems to be the thing.
I'm at work at the moment, or I'd reorder the lot.

Ok, here is the story re-ordered. I've checked it fairly well I think but could still have made typo's so please say if you spot something!

Quote:
1. Millennia ago an ancient ______ rose from
2. the depths of Earth ______ enslave its
3. population of proto-human inhabitants. _____ order to
4. destroy this evil entity ______ warlocks formed
5. a conclave by which _____ banish the
6. evil from existence. From _____ their ranks
7. they chose one to _____ them – the
8. Master of Twelve. This _____ combining their
9. power, managed to defeat _____ ancient evil.
10. However, unable to destroy _____ he was
11. bound beneath the Earth. _____ Master of
12. Twelve having prophesised that _____ day this
13. evil will find strength ____ overcome the
14. power which binds it, ____ the last
15. of his strength to ____ across time
16. scanning the long life _____ the Earth.
17. He scattered the number _____ throughout the
18. history of human religion, _____ and culture,
19. as clues to his _____ and placed
20. twelve portals across the _____ These portals
21. may be activated, although _____ knows how.
22. Once activated, these portals ____ power into
23. the magic which binds _____ ancient evil,
24. preventing him from rising _____ more. The
25. portals will remain active _____ one year.
26. Knowing that there are ____ who would
27. serve this ancient evil, _____ Master of
28. Twelve hid the information ____ each of
29. the portals, and how _____ activate them,
30. in an ancient book: _____ Duodecad' This
31. book not only provides _____ towards the
32. position and nature of _____ portal, but
33. also points to the _____ on which
34. this ancient evil will _____ to rise
35. again. Those who would _____ this evil
36. from rising are powerless _____ 'The Duodecad'
37. is found. That is _____ now. I
38. have it.

(The numbers are the numbered word in each quote we were given, they can be ignored but thought they'd be useful for double checking purposes!)

Edit to correct mistake mentioned by Billy Brown below (Thanks Billy!)

Ooh, I like the look of this one. I'm in. I've checked your working there, SteamPunkV, and it all looks correct from here. I think it would be worth trying to fill in the blanks and sending the result to the Master. I'll have a bash now and post my attempt here.

EDIT: Actually, there is a very small thing to change in your transcription - there should be a comma after 'power' at the beginning of line 9. It seems trivial but it affects how we identify the missing word on line 8.

Anyway, here's my attempt at identifying the missing words. I'll put it into the correct format and email it over to see if I'm anywhere close.

1. evil
2. to
3. In
4. twelve
5. to
6. within
7. lead
8. warlock,
9. the
10. it,
11. The
12. one
13. to
14. used
15. travel
16. of
17. 12
18. science
19. identity,
20. Earth.
21. nobody
22. channel
23. the
24. once
25. for
26. those
27. the
28. on
29. to
30. 'The
31. clues
32. each
33. date
34. attempt
35. stop
36. unless
37. until

Which would make:

evil to In twelve to within lead warlock, the it, The one to used travel of 12 science identity, Earth. nobody channel the once for those the on to 'The clues each date attempt stop unless until

I shot off a quick e-mail to the Servant:

Quote:
Now I understand why the number 12 is so prevalent in religions etc across the Earth.
Can you share anything from this book that you now possess?

And got this reply almost immediately:

Quote:
The time for that will come - and sooner than you might think.

11, 12, 13

The numbers could be almost anything, including the 12th November this year.

Oops, sorry - I edited my post above before realising you had replied. It seems we do indeed need to guess the missing words following this email exchange:

Quote:
It seems my friends have made some progress. Can you tell me anything about The Duodecad? We want to find the portals and help keep this evil at bay.

Quote:
They have. But not enough.

You have deduced, and correctly. Congratulations. Others may not be capable of such deductions - I must wait until the puzzle is complete.

I've sent my attempt over so hopefully I'll hear back soon.

EDIT: Hmm, maybe I jumped the gun a little. The reply I received:

Quote:
This is not a bad attempt, if you allow for synonyms.

The work is unnecessary however. You have gone about the puzzle with speed and haste - it appears that one of your friends may lack both.

Any thoughts? The idea that the 12th November may be significant (11, 12, 13) could well be on the nose but I'd be surprised if there's going to be a week's worth of downtime at this point.

New tweet:

Even now, I feel the constraints of powerful magic.

Interesting that he says one of us may lack both speed and haste....

I've had a couple of emails back and forth, in one of which I apologised for getting carried away and thanked him for his encouragement. I said I would try and approach the puzzle from a different angle. His reply:

Quote:
We all need encouragement sometimes. On your own, you can do nothing.

So we need to band together. It strikes me that nobody actually submitted 12 as their favourite number. Am I right? If so, we might need somebody to do so so that we can fill in the blanks and hopefully complete the puzze. Maybe that's why you got the 11,12,13 message (as we had people submit both 11 and 13)?

EDIT: Further information via Twitter. I asked if people who had already contacted him could supply another number or if we needed somebody new. The reply:

Quote:
Neither will help you now - I am constrained from releasing this information to you again. Find the original '12'.

Suggests to me that someone has already asked for number 12 and not posted the reply.

Perhaps they do not use the forum or perhaps they are unable to post at present.

WTG steam on the work you put in.

I just played catch up there....

It seems we need to find the original number 12. Which if they choose not to post here seems that we cant really do anything about it...

11, 12, 13 could rather than being a date also be the sentences they want us to focus on.

Will edit this if i find anything more, Literally just in the door.

thought also i might just throw it out there in a tweet and directly ask who number 12 is. Worth a shot.
I can't place my finger on it right this second but it does seem as if we are missing something.

The reply was

Quote:
Master Of Twelve ‏@MasterOfTwelve 2m

@mrshom3rsimpson They have informed you of their interest, but not of their number. #indirectanswering

Was wondering if Zobot has told us the number they submitted?

If someone has told us of their interest then it seems likely that its someone on the board who picked 12 but has not got round to updating.

It looks to me like it could be Elethamei going by this post:

Elethamei wrote:
Gah, I wasn't suppose to begin anything new now, but I noticed that they followed me on twitter and ancient wars always interest me, so you know... what the hell. Yolo.
I just emailed them my number and now just waiting. I hope this is something good.

EDIT: I've just tweeted Elethamei to see if I'm right. Will report back in due course.

Looks to me like it could be either of them. ... think you might be right though.. I'm not sure if Zobot actually emailed.

It was Zobot

@Zobot257 31s

@mrshom3rsimpson the number 12. I submitted it almost without thinking
