IM w/CW about disk Just had a chat with CW. He said that he originally gave the disk to one of the kid's (didn't mention who or when) with the report about AI search engines. Everything else on the disk has been added since CW originally had it. He also said he took it from the dorm room (and again, no time was mentioned). Will have to remember to ask. Could help us with a timeline (no pun intended )
**Edit - He also said "I thought Urusulla would be
interested in the more technical aspects of it." As to what he meant, I have no idea. He said he would explain more later. I'm not assuming anything this time.

mysteryjones, if you're good at this kind of thing, perhaps you can figure out the names of the two people next to "Mike Petersen" ("PetersOn?") in the ComCon.jpg file.

The whois is from btinernet.com, a large ISP, and the site I posted is presumably one of their subscribers. If it has anything to do with AWARE, it's a wild and bizarre coincidence because I found it through a completely unrelated link.

I only know one movie (one and two sequels I suppose) that used the shade of green I see here in some of the frames. Not a movie expert by any means but don't I see Matrix green?

enaxor posted a picture of the disk, which says "GA TO JUDE '99" ... GA is, I think, "Genetic Algorithms", which are referenced in the article (from 1999) included on the disk.
Ursula was mentioned before ... can someone refresh my memory, please?

Duh! I forgot Jude was listed on the disk.
As for Ursula, that's me. I was on the phone with him when he was arrested. It's in his journal, April 2, 2004.

Hidden Message Under Disk Label Wow! Thanks to Jhonathan_Hiberd in chat asked if I would look at the disk again. He thought the label was to perfect in it's placement to then have a corner of it kind of pulled up. So with his urging I pulled the label up and there was a message.
"if you hold unix up to you ear, Do you hear the c?"
Any ideas?? Thanks again Jhonathan_Hiberd

That name is from True Romance...he sure seems to like that movie..I viewed it again. It is good if you like pulp fiction type movies.
Gotta love Christian Slater that was his name in the movie.I think?
I wonder who Prof. Roddingtons true love is?

I found something else. Some "false" things Unix can generate. The "false" things are actually message codes and return codes. I guess that's the technical stuff CW was talking about. I remember reading something out "blow job, blow" somewhere here, but I can't find it.
Quote:
The following are strange error messages you can get Unix to generate.
They were culled during the summer of 1988 from rec.humor. As we all
know, real error messages have two parts: a message code, and a return
code. Ideally, the message code is hexadecimal, the return code is octal,
and the manual explaining the error messages uses decimal. But Unix (tm),
in keeping with its characteristic lexical confusion, produces error
messages which, although designed to make the system appear sentient, and
conversational, ultimately make the system seem as stupid as it is. Note
that the '%' prompt indicates that the command should be issued from the C
shell, and the '$' prompt indicates the Bourne shell.
% man woman
No manual entry for woman.
% make love
Make: Don't know how to make love. Stop.
% rm meese-ethics
rm: meese-ethics nonexistent
% ar m God
ar: God does not exist
% "How would you rate Reagan's incompetence?
Unmatched ."
% ^How did the sex change^ operation go?
Modifier failed.
% If I had a ( for every $ Reagan spent, what would I have?
Too many ('s.
% sleep with me
bad character
% got a light?
No match.
% man: why did you get a divorce?
man:{sp 0}: Too many arguments.
% ^What is saccharine?
Bad substitute.
% %blow
%blow: No such job.
% (-
