I think it was kinda dumb to make a new EMH thread before a new video is posted, but whatever. Rolling Eyes

Isn't the new thread always made shortly after New Year's? The first video of 2013 wasn't uploaded until February, and I remember the 2013 thread being made early in January, same as the 2012 thread.

It's good to keep the discussions going, even when there's little to talk about.

Hey guys, this is a kind of important update.

Vinny was recently in a car crash. Yes, he's OK, but his car isn't...so, if you can, he's opened up a PayPal account to help him raise funds for his car. Help a HYBRID out if you can, please.

The thread is dead. Long live the thread.

First of all, I love that this was used to close the last thread.

I do not like the fact that HABIT at the moment is nothing more than a Villain Sue of the Slenderverse at the expense of Slender Man himself, which is a main sign of any Sue character. It's just bad writing.

I do not like that these terms are thrown around whenever someone kind of dislikes something. One person not liking a few characters or plot devices does not make the writing "bad." A million people not liking the whole story doesn't make it "bad." Yes, I know you're trying to support yourself with reasons, but proving that a character is "written badly" is astronomically difficult, because there are so many things that go into a character, so showing that a few of them are weaknesses isn't going to invalidate the rest.

Quote:
HABIT is always many steps ahead of everyone, knows everything, he defeated (temporarily, but whatever) Slender Man himself, offed lot's of people on screen, controls the Rake (probably). As far as his powers go - it's a pure Villain Sue: he is unkillable, can transfer minds, teleport etc. - he can do much more than Slender Man.

Wow...a lot here.

1. He's the Informant character, so of course he is many steps ahead of the protagonists. This is also true of Masky/Hoody in Marble Hornets, Observer in Tribe Twelve, pretty much ever Slender Series ever.

2. When did he defeat Slenderman? And why is this an issue? This happened in Tribe Twelve months ago, & the rebuttal was "all-powerful Slenderman is boring & this is in Noah's character."

3. Having a high body count is not being a Villain Sue. Showing character deaths, rather than telling us about them in passing, is GOOD writing.

4. Okay, so we don't even know if he controls the Rake.

5. All those things you described have been powers of Slenderman. How can he do "much more than Slenderman"? By all accounts, Slenderman is way more powerful, & that is why HABIT is used--as dangerous as he is, he can at least be pushed back against.

Quote:
Even worse, though - they try too hard to make him look all demonic and pure evil. Lot's of cliches including: "want to show someone's evil? Make him nazi collaborator", Joker mannerisms and baby-eating were used. If we are to assume that he is a legit character and not some form of meta-commentary, Slenderverse would always have a big trouble with writing out there.

This journal thing is Tribe Twelve's plot point & I believe that Tribe Twelve has already invoked the Nazis in its backstory, so I don't think it's fair to blame HABIT for that.

But other than that, I do agree with the argument that they sometimes ham him up too much. In a way, it's nice to see a villain who isn't afraid to sink to any low, especially when it doesn't come across as tasteless. But he can be predictably unimaginative, at times. "If you don't do this thing I want, I'm going to cut something off of you! Hahaha!"

Still, I have to say that his hamminess is his Kryptonite & his strength. "Severance" put the protagonist of Tribe Twelve--in my opinion at his best acting at the time--against the antagonist of another series, & the antagonist stole the show. HABIT was very 3 dimensional in the latest crossover video. He tried to help, revealing that he sympathized with Noah, but still threatened him when he got sick of Noah's shit, but THEN pulled it back when he realized that threats probably weren't going to get him what he wanted...the point is his actions were neither those of a 1D villain, nor someone who couldn't do anything to Noah because he had Plot Armor. Speaking of Noah & his Plot Armor, I hate to shit on Tribe Twelve like this, but what does it say about Noah if he's so special that a "Villain Sue" feels compelled to go out of its way to help him out of the "good"ness of its heart? HABIT also says that he's "not as stupid as the others," meaning that he's praised over the cast of HABIT's OWN SERIES.

I also agree that screen time given to HABIT & Slenderman is imbalanced in HABIT's favor, but again, that's something that happens a lot, which upon further reflection, I think might be what you are saying here:

Quote:
"As a watcher, I'd prefer guys to return back to Slenderseries."

On the actual content of the video, it seemed obvious to me that HABIT was telling Noah that he could stab Slenderman with the symbol, freeing Noah from Slim's influence. I don't know if this method would work on HABIT, but it does reveal several other interesting things:

*"Magic" of some form exists in the Hybridverse. It is fueled by emotion, & intention.
*It might be why it's so easy to hack accounts, get in homes, & so forth.
*HABIT is definitively NOT on Slenderman's side, except in the longshot that this really IS all bullshit. This makes an uneasy alliance the most likely explanation of their relationship, at this point.
*HABIT seems to help Noah specifically because he does not like that Noah was made subservient to Slenderman, implying that HABIT was at one point, & has either recently broken free, or is trying to break free.

I think this post sums up everything I think about all of the updates that I've missed. It better be, 'cause it took friggin' forever to write.

EDIT: Derp, didn't even fucking mention Vinny's accident. Well...kind of obvious, I'm glad he's okay, & hope he gets enough to get his car fixed. Also, 3 jobs, makes me look like a lazy piece of shit.

So, I just started following HABIT on Twitter (or a very good fake; it's @PURPLEDUCKTAPE). Apparently he's watching Marble Hornets. It's...weird, seeing his comments. My sense of reality is getting messed up.

That's definitely a fake. Marble Hornets does not exist in any other Slender Man series universe--and HABIT's account is @seventrials I believe, or something like that.

Although I do strongly believe that's a fake Twitter, haven't there been a couple of small throwaway references to 'that other series'? I think no other series' exist in Marble Hornets but MH does exist here

I think I recall the creators saying that Marble Hornets does exist in game, but only as a web-series, not as actual events.

There's the Fake Slenderman entries with lots of MH references and in a later video they talk about wifin'. There's also a line about "Alex from that other series", I think that's from an IG interview on another channel.

By "Alex," They could mean from Darkharvest, if you are saying it was in game.

It was always my assumption that MH existed in the EMH universe, but only as a series. Elsewise where would they have gotten the idea to put a Slenderman "easter egg" in the fitness videos?

I suspected it wasn't the real thing. It's still entertaining, though Smile
