Fuck this, and fuck PorcelainSpiders.

Never would I have thought that a MH rip-off could become so popular. I mean, there was MarbleBugs or whatever the hell the other one was called, and everyone fucking hated it. So why does this have a viewership!?

I mean, in one month, this sack of plagiarized shit has gained over 160 subscribers. Almost half as many subs as JustAquaintances (an incredibly well done series) has gained in over two years!

I don't see how anyone who has watched MH could EVER like this. It is nothing but a shot for shot remake, with a few character differences. The most diverse part about the series is that Jane talks to the viewers, something I don't care about at all.

Whatever, I'm just contributing to the success of this thing by posting here. I'm out of this thread for good, unless it can somehow redeems itself for me.

But remakes that follow the source either with the same formula or same words, but deviate in some way to show a message is nothing new.

During the 2008 elections SNL did a sketch of Katie Couric interviewing Sarah Palin using nearly the exact wording of an actual interview in order to convey how ridiculous Palin sounded.

The Youtube series ShitGirlsSay spawned countless deviations that follow the exact formula and tone to show how the subject matter affects other groups (ShitJewishGirlsSay, ShitGayGuysSay, Shit White Girls Say to Black Girls, etc).

Furthermore Porcelain Spiders' target audience isn't the white guys that enjoy the status quo of basic white guys doing a Slender Man series. It is mostly geared towards:

A) People from underrepresented groups who want to be able to see themselves and relate to a series

B) People who actually like to analyze how gender, sexuality, etc can change story or genre commonly reserved for a majority group. It is a legitimate field of criticism.

Not everything needs to be geared to and seek the approval of dudes who generally get most media catered to them as default. Yeah, it looks like Unfiction is mostly dudes who just want surface material Slender series without much analysis, but that does not mean it is a bad thing or that PS fans don't deserve a small space here to discuss. There is obviously an audience for this show otherwise who enjoys looking at people like them dealing with Slenderman and/or looking back and forth between MH and PS and discussing with like-minded people about Alex handling his dog's reaction to Slenderman vs. Alexa or how Alexa's meltdown in front of her cast and crew was different from Alex's (gender plays a part in this, especially when taking sociology into consideration).

And seriously, what's wrong with having a diverse group in a show? In reality, people in minority groups don't always exist as tokens in someone else's otherwise non-diverse friend group.

The only way I see this series as acceptable is if it accepts itself as a gimmick, a genderbent version of MH.

But if it's meant to be making some kind of profound statement - and people are taking it as that - that's terrible. It should have been an original story from the start in that case. They've already got the people and the camera so all they need is to have enough talent to create a story that doesn't suck and we'd have an entertaining Slender Man series with some refreshing characters. Outright copying entire entries shot-for-shot and then calling it profound because it was with girls this time and saying things will be different later on after drawing people in with the exact same entries from MH is not acceptable.

And don't start saying "this series isn't for white guys who are used to being catered to", I'm sick of seeing white guys in the main role in 99% of stories as well. If you want to make a series with underrepresented groups, that is brilliant. But make it your series, don't just draw people in by giving them genderbent MH in the beginning! I personally can't get into Keratin Garden because of the slow beginnings but I respect it for having female main characters for a change. Also not a series but I really dig how Slender: The Arrival has female main characters as well. Genderbent Marble Hornets acting like it's profound, on the other hand, not so refreshing. Quite the opposite. Because it's copying.

The fact that this thread is still ongoing (as well as the fact that this series is ongoing) is both hilarious and pathetic.

A.) Never will I buy any of the people who post in this thread defending PorcelainSpiders to high Heaven as anything but the creators using sock puppet accounts to appear as if people like this "series".

B.) You are all spending time arguing over whether or not this thread should be locked, and more often than not, you're the ones pushing it up to the top of the page. Let this thread die, and let the series fade into (much deserved) obscurity.

If I want to rewatch MarbleHornets, I'll break out my DVDs.

I tried a lot of things concerning Porcelain Spiders. Let's see... I tried reading everything in this forum and...well, yeah, didn't bother. Its people arguing back and forth. Anyway, I tried watching the series. And, yes, I'm going to post an opinion on it because...well, I can, cry about it. Anyway.
Let's pretend its not a recreation of MH for juuuust one second. Let's pretend its original. If it was its own original idea, I still would not like it. My main problem here is the acting. First video, I couldn't understand her because she didn't enunciate or something. She didn't open her mouth, it looked like. I'm not sure, maybe I'm just deaf. Getting back to the fact that it is literally just MH... No. Just. No. Can I get an interesting and original idea please?
