So is the woman in gold connected to the danger sparkles?

This movie was also released this year about the same painting.

Dunno if it's releated.

Hey TryingLobster, nice job, and thanks for correcting me. About the PNG diff, how did you do it? Just curious!

I used a python script called eyeD3 (get it? ID3? Hur hur). I use Linux in my professional life and I like using it for puzzle solving because I have access to all sorts of scripts and tools to analyze obscure file formats.

Right, but how did you actually run the diff between the images after extracting it from the ID3? I'm asking because I'm using ImageMagick and, instead of a smooth diff like yours, I'm getting red pixels for every different pixel, no matter *how* different it is. Yours seem to consider that, so it looks a lot better.

I've tried each combination with the following on the ashby admin and the beta access pages and they did not work:

User:
Gustav
gustav
Klimt
klimt
Klimpt
klimpt

pass:
dispatch 1
dispatch1

'dispatch 1' seems like it should be a password for something. I'll try to think of other usernames I've yet to try.

I transcribed the rest of the Extrasode 3 morse code. At 37:38 I get

Code:
SLWO
OSOUTRIV
DENIARPS SSENIHSUM
TNAREBUXE
ERIM SSENIHSUM
TNAREBUXE
ERIM

At 38:44 I get

Code:
SSENIHSUM
TNAREBUXE
ERIMSSENIHSUM
TNAREBUXE
ERIMSSENIHSUM
TNAREBUXE
ERIM

There is in fact an error in the encoding around the second ERIMSSENIHSUM: in the spectrogram there is a visible separation between the "--" and "..." but it's only maybe 10s of ms. I haven't looked at the exact timing because I'm 99% sure it's just a mistake.

My theory is that each code word represents a digit. Do these words (reversed of course) show up anywhere else? With a little more ciphertext I feel like I could decrypt it but I haven't been able to translate anything with just this.

I also looked into Episode 55. There are two things that stick out:

1) At 51:55 there's some kind of reverb effect that's been applied. It's subtle but glows like crazy on a spectrogram. The transcript is:

"Uh, and it was really enjoyable stuff. Like, very much of, like, replicating the style of the time where, like, these people don't really know how to write and there's this very very awkward, like, focusing on, like, things that aren't that important."

I think he's just trolling us here.

2) At 1:10:29 there's a noise around the time they're talking about the FF2 kickstarter. The transcript is:

"Is that where the money went? You just, ah, you just bought a yacht and named it Frog Fractions 2?" [laughing]

The noise occurs just after that. After the noise they're talking about how you can't buy a decent yacht for $70k. I also think this isn't really a clue, but it was interesting.

This afternoon I'll look into THD 22, Ashen Stools since dave is ok thinks there's interesting noise in there.

Oh! Yeah I ran into that too. Use composite instead:

Code:
composite wiki_source.png OTHER.png -compose difference diff.png

In THD22, a notch filter has been applied at exactly 2 kHz. I haven't figured out the significance of this, but it's definitely very visible in the spectrogram. The notch widens a bit while he's looking for the rider mail. I can't identify anything during that interval besides train noise... The filter's definitely on purpose but I'm not sure it actually means anything.

THD16

OK, finally took the time to read through the whole thread. Looks like the morse in THD16 is exactly the same, down to the short pause between repetitions. Looking at it again I don't think the code words map to digits, but I don't have another theory.

If this ends up being a red herring I'm going to be mad.

Ok, hm... Just some thoughts I wanted to share, nothing solid, but hoping it could be useful anyway.

1) The wallpaper of the Red Pages Extrasode 3 is a mock picture of a game with "Gold: 285". It could of course be a random thing, but then Irregular Programming mentioned a few posts ago that the nickname of the painting in the ID3 is "Woman in Gold". If there's indeed no stegano in that picture (I tried a few things and couldn't find anything) maybe it's just a way of pointing to "gold". If we ever need a three-digit number it might be useful to remember this.

2) Everytime I read "Mire Exuberant Mushiness" and "Sprained Virtuoso Owls" I can't help but think these are anagrams. I mean, these are exactly the kind of weird nonsense things you get when looking at possible anagrams of english phrases. So I've been playing with the idea and the most interesting I got was "Password is Revolution".

http://wordsmith.org/anagram/anagram.cgi?anagram=sprained+virtuoso+owls&language=english&t=100&d=&include=passwordis&exclude=&n=&m=&source=adv&a=n&l=n&q=n&k=1

You can get "Username is" from Mire... but then the rest doesn't make any sense.

http://wordsmith.org/anagram/anagram.cgi?anagram=mire+exuberant+mushiness&language=english&t=100&d=&include=usernameis&exclude=&n=&m=&source=adv&a=n&l=n&q=n&k=1

Edit: By the way, where was that "www.gustavklimptuplink.com" url? I never found that in the ID3 of the podcast's MP3...

Hi, first time dabbling with these sorts of games and I can already see how they could drive a person nuts. For example: I read here that there was a phrase from 'I, Robot' hidden in a file and I notice that one of the external links from the Wikipedia article on 'The Woman in Gold' is iKlimt.com

Is it a clue? Useless? Is FF2 the "Magnus the Magnetic Dog" children's book advertised on that site? I should do the dishes, ARGs hurt my brain.

Nice catch! Could also be "the username is number six".

However I tried to login on accesslevelalpha, beta and decaytruth's admin page with "6", "six" and "numbersix" as username (and "revolution" as password), and it didn't work.

If you open the MP3 as a text file it's there on the first line.

Weird. I just re-downloaded the podcast to be sure and this is what I get:

Code:

Red Pages Twitter

The Red Pages podcast has a Twitter with some things of note:

https://twitter.com/RedPagesPodcast/status/653449532382941184
Similar corrupted image to the "woman in gold" before. Maybe we need to piece them together somehow?

https://twitter.com/RedPagesPodcast/status/652886193248440321
Corrupt episodes appear to be a bug

https://twitter.com/RedPagesPodcast/status/651855579829288960
Reference to "Mire Exuberant Mushiness" but I don't think there's anything much deeper
