Looks like the Museum of Jurassic Technology (or at least nearby) was the right guess.

The account also had a "note" added:

I've been following this thread ever since the kickstarter.

And I might be able to stop by the MJT or the park (where Indiecade was held last fall) -- dependent on work schedule.

I did stop by Indiecade for the Friday evening activities for an hour, but I did not recognize any of the programmers/bloggers as I wandered around listening to nerds doing karaoke.

I hope I can get off work, so that I can get some IN-N-OUT burgers !

I think I'll print a little frog on paper and pin it to my shirt or hat.

Alas, I do not have Wii or any equipment to read amiibo.

We found him, had to play a game of chess to win the Mario, we looked around at trees and found nothing but a strap that had nothing. What now guys.

Nice! What kind of strap was it? I'd guess at there being a case somewhere in a tree nearby? But if you've checked them I don't know...

Was that imgur link from Mario? I'm not sure they'd rely on us to be able to get access to the Amiibo straight away so maybe the tree thing is referring to something elsewhere?

Were you playing as black or white?

yeah, that was the original layout of the board, I thought it looked familiar but it seemed just to be coincidence.
