NeuroCam

NeuroCam

A post about NeuroCam from MetaFilter (with additional links; click here to follow the links in the paragraph below)

Quote:
Neurocam. A billboard appears near a Melbourne freeway entrance inviting people to "Get out of their mind". "Those who follow the instructions on the neurocam website are assigned missions, with the threat of grave consequences should these tasks not be carried out. Individuals prove their mettle by completing progressively more complex, riskier assignments - possibly of questionable legality." from the Age article linked below. Is it an art project, a cult, a marketing ploy, a game or a psychological experiment? Neurocam says none of these. Melbourne's Age newspaper investigates (free reg sometimes req'd). You can also read some blogs from participants here and here. Plus it seems to have something to do with this place dealing in Human Possibility(TM), which makes as little sense as the rest of it. I'm such a cynic, I still think it is marketing something, but it is fairly extreme.

Interesting. I registered, and we'll see what happens.

Interesting disclaimer, by the way. A lot of ARG references Smile

EDIT: Found out a little
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Some interesting stuff about Neurocam on this blog

(find the word "neurocam")

And:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Don't bother trying to guess a password in the "archive entry"
No matter what you type in, it takes you to the "access denied" page.

And, look here for some VERY interesting images:

Hm! Weird!

Don't know if this really counts as a spoiler, but:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I signed up... looks like a number of blogs have completed "missions" of package (briefcase) pickup and delivery. Can't quite tell what it's all about...

Here's some good info:

*freaks*

Well, I signed up a few days ago, and I got this email:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Dear Applicant

Thank you for expressing interest in Neurocam.

Your application has been forwarded to a designated officer within the Human
Resources Security Division so that our organization can further evaluate
your suitability for recruitment.

In the interest of facilitating an expedient assessment, the Human Resources
Security Division is currently implementing a series of background checks.
We apologize in advance for the potentially intrusive nature of these checks
and assure you that Neurocam International only undertakes this course of
action in the interest of protecting our propriety operational procedures.
Any information gathered from this historical evaluation will be treated as
strictly confidential.

If your application is successful you will be contacted by Mr. Charles
Hastings, Head of Neurocam International's Operations Division, Asia-Pacific
Quadrant. Mr. Hastings will further enlighten you as to the nature of the
tasks Neurocam requires you to complete.

An unsuccessful application will result in the cessation of all further
correspondence between Neurocam and yourself.

Neurocam appreciates that in 83.6% of instances, new applicants experience a
desire to enquire about many issues which may further enlighten them as to
the true nature of Neurocam. Due to the need to maintain a high level of
operational security Neurocam is unable to provide much of the information
desired by entry level participants.

We can, however, inform you of the following - Neurocam is a process which
you are already part of.

Having said this, if you do have any questions, please feel free to contact
me directly. I will endeavor to answer as many of your enquiries as
Neurocam's Organizational Security Guidelines allow.

Thank you once again for expressing interest in Neurocam. I hope that your
application will be successful and that I will soon have the pleasure of
working with you.

Warm Regards,

Maxwell Knight
Head, Human Resources Security Division
Neurocam International

This seems like some serious real-life "Fight Club" sort of stuff to me.

OK, "Operation Mayhem" if you would then. I suppose this qualifies as an ARG, just not in the "play from the safety of your bedroom" type.

I think this is definitely a case of "Player Beware."

I'm not sure if it will turn into an ARG or not. It has all the elements, but the BTS folks might not be up for a protracted experience. Regardless, the hopeful have started congregating in #neurocam on chat-sol.

I appologize, it was not my intention to make you "meep." Perhaps I'm being a sissy about this whole thing. The news article about this was sort of suspicious, it almost makes you wonder if it was just another mission and the reporter was a member.

Scary

I don't know about you guys, but this is deffinately creeping me out. I feel like that if I am to send an e-mail they will come knocking at my door with their masks and throw me into a car. I'm not sure I'm willing to subject myself to something like that.
