META: TO BTS OR NOT TO BTS

I haven't had a lot of extra time on my hands lately to follow AWARE as much as I would like to do. But having seen all the bickering going on regarding Krystal (krysbabe), and having been in a situation where I was accused of being BTS and still playing I feel I have something to contribute.

Have any of you ever considered the fact that maybe Krystal started out as a Player, and as a PLAYER created her guide? That after a bit deciding that she was having so much fun that she made an offer to the game creator to join his BTS team AFTER the Pre-game had started, and AFTER she had made several comments on these fine boards as a player?

She has turned over what work she has done as a player (supposedly as skinny puppy), for anyone who wants to continue the work, but has stated she can no longer continue it herself. Nor has she contacted anyone directly that she has moved behind the curtain. If she has moved from player to BTS; then not saying anything public about it is a good thing isn't it? If she and Nash have worked out the method of her disappearance to give the game a little more depth, that's a good thing isn't it?

Can we please stop speculating on who is BTS and who isn't and get back to the game? Please?

That was a possibility I brought up too (somewhere in one of these threads Wink ) Maybe she really did take a plane trip to meet the Prof as a player and was then asked to "disappear" and go BTS.

You are completely right Magesteff. As I posted here, the options you mentioned should not make a difference to us, because BTS or not, she still is a player, one "of us" and we should treat her that way.

The thing making this situation a bit more complicated than it could have been is the fact that Krystal's disappearance placed the Guide beyond our control. I think we fixed that now, with the new WIKI guide existing alongside the original guide, of which we do not know by whom it is updated at the moment.

If that is the case then it probably would have been good form for her to send a private message or email to one of the board admins asking to be removed as a moderator. All the admins are discreet and wouldn't reveal information to the players. If Krystal knew she was going behind the curtain, it also would have made sense for her to mention that she had other obligations and wouldn't be able to moderate anymore. Being proactive in the situation is usually far better than being reactive.

I think that, in this particular ARG pregame, determining who is BTS or not has become part of the game. We have already established that BTS people will not only post as players but will also actively participate in chats, etc. It's just an aspect of this game. I don't have an opinion about whether it is appropriate or not. But it would be foolish not to consider whether other people are doing the same thing.

As to whether Krystal was a player who "volunteered" to help out? I agree it may be possible and that it has in fact happened in other ARG's in other situations but I sincerely doubt that was the case here. That is just my opinion and, as I said elsewhere, it doesn't affect how I would treat her, but it just doesn't seem credible to me that Krystal started out solely as a player. If she enjoyed playing so much, why would she leave? Or perhaps she has just returned under a new name? I agree it's a complete waste of time to spec about what she has done or might do. Presumably we will find out at some point.

(Also, I must have missed the bickering part. I thought people were just expressing what they thought and many of us were genuinely confused at first by the whole "Krystal disappearance." )
