I think it's a bit of a stock reply here, but here we go. Basically in response to the email Markus sent out to everyone, I said
Quote:
Markus,
Hydranet's technology sounds revolutionary and I'm excited to learn more. You are right, you're a person who is randomly dropping emails into my mailbox telling me strange things, why would I believe you? How do I know that you're not making things up?
Wait, how'd you get my email? Hydranet said they wouldn't pass my contact details to anyone.
He responded with
Quote:
I'm sorry Alanna, I just wanted to warn you before they got to you too. I barely made it out. Who knows what happened to the ones that they took away. Be careful. I'm going to get my Dad. Whatever it takes. Thank you for believing in me. I'll update when I can.
Buttttttttt I didn't say anything about believing him.... Okay okay, Markus... I'll play along...
Quote:
WAIT!! Where are you going? Is there anything we can do to help? Which training centre is your Dad in?

I made it in, I'm wired into a mainframe in the basement. I know where he is. I've uploaded a program that's gonna wipe the servers. They won't hurt anyone else. its almost over now.

Response from Markus I responded to Markus' origina email about "Hydranet are lying to you" but I told him I was interested and wondering if he is okay or has more info. Today I got this response:
"For now just stay vigilant. I'm gonna go in tonight. Might need you then. The codes mean I can access their network. I should be able to find him and hopefully get him out. I wouldn't get involved with them. Their dangerous. I don't want you to be at risk too. Be careful. I'm not hiding this. they know I'm coming. just not how or when."
Ooooh! Fun!

As some of you are corresponding with Markus, I decided that I would continue to try to get info out of Hydranet instead of Markus. I feel it would be better for some of us to play into each side and get as much info as possible. To me, this makes sense as it seems as though the game is split into two possible choices: Markus or Hydranet. This will probably change later, and we're supposed to help Markus. (I think this is what we're supposed to be doing, but I like playing all angles.)
I'll update you with any responses I get from Hydranet!

I got the email about the mainframe too. I'm a little bummed about the lack of puzzles. But does anyone else feel like there's a chunk of plot missing? At first Markus was saying he barely escaped with his life and then suddenly he's wired into the mainframe?

I, too, am a bit bummed by the lack of puzzles. I feel like we're just reading a story.
I think that Markus signed up to be a part of the tests, but someone (a lady) managed to sneak him out, probably at his dad's wishes. Now his dad is being held captive by Hydranet.
And I took "wired into the mainframe" to mean that he somehow gained access to their mainframe. I'd assume that he accomplished this by breaking into Hydranet to attempt to rescue his dad.

I'm wondering if that was the backstory built up and the real thing starts now, where we try to bust Dad and Markus out or something. I haven't heard from Markus since the mainframe email, and I've tried emailing his gmail as a "are you safe" thing, but no reply. When do we start getting worried?

not before we start caring about the characters, that's for sure.

Just received this message.
Quote:
Dear Applicants,
I first must apologise for the emails you have received or any contact from outside our company, Our network was compromised by one individual, fortunately he is now in our custody. As most of you are aware this individual was intent on bringing harm to our organisation and we are relieved to have affected his capture.
This is an attack on the life's work of many people in the organisation and is viewed as an act of war against us. I assure you we will respond in kind.
This brings us to any interesting point and we have decided to use the opportunity to test your resolve and rational thinking. You have two choices. Either
A.
Markus should be forgiven.
or
B.
This attack is unforgivable, he must pay.
Only one choice will lead you to the next phase of the program. You have 24 hours to make your decision.

I just replied with this:
Quote:
Dear Mr. Thompson,
I can't possibly see how Markus could be forgiven, given the fact that he attempted to threaten the work Hydranet brought to us.
Regardless of the motivation he might have had, generating such a danger for the project cannot be tolerated. I decide for B.
Best Regards
As long as we have people choosing A and B everything should be fine.

I got the exact same email. Personally, I'm going with Markus because without Markus the game basically ends, right?
Then again... They might implement a backup antagonist. Tough choices. I guess we got our first puzzle!

Well I'm going option a will see what happens!
In game, I'm not even entirely sure that Markus even exists or if this is just an elaborate company screening process.

Well I think I'd go with option c, handing Marcus over to the police and let the law do the rest.
But as this option isn't available, I think I will choose option B.
Mainly because I want to go to Edinburgh.
