The Mike that came out of the hospital in the riot gear is actually a clone of the reporter.

The Mike that left the hospital in riot gear is actually an agent of Noah Boddy who underwent plastic surgery to look like the reporter and fool the Reverend.

The Mike that came out is actually a robot made to look like the reporter.

Mike is actually a robot, and the hospital 'surgeons' reprogrammed him.

That isn't riot gear, it's a mutation of his skin as a result of his 'tests' in the hospital.

Mike is a rouge member of the alien species that has placed humanity inside the P.U.R.G.A.T.O.R.Y. unit, of which Noah Boddy is the leader.

Someone slipped Super-Beef(tm) into Mike's hospital food.

Noah Boddy is Vykromod, existing as separate senses (eyes, tounge, nose, ears, lips, brain).

Noah Boddy destroyed God, absorbed his powers, and used them to place humanity in purgatory.

Noah Boddy is a copy of Prometheus that traveled back in time to prevent his destruction in the future.
