I second the idea that the viewers are getting lazier and less adventurous. Also, while this debate popped up, so did that series, "Handprints" which is the first to catch my attention in a long time.

I wouldn't say the mythos as a whole are "disappearing", but they're likely going to "disappear" for many of us once Marble Hornets and EverymanHYBRID (notably Marble Hornets) both conclude. None of the Trailheads have managed to keep my attention; the same can be said for the bulk of those who have come in contact with the mythos, I feel.

I have a feeling most of us are going to wind up moving to the new original-most-likely-horror-genre-webseries that Trosephim teased a few days ago that they're going to start working on some time after Marble Hornets wraps up.

What horror genre webseries?

From the Marble Hornets season 3 DVD kickstarter video, as stated by Troy Wagner:

"Everything left over after our third stretch goal will be put directly into production costs for what we're planning to do AFTER Marble Hornets has completely wrapped up. We can't say exactly what it is just yet, but we're pretty sure you're going to like it."

I put the most important part in bold. It's pretty much all but confirmed that they're going to be doing another horror series, possibly paranormal in nature like Marble Hornets is, but with either a different creature or a completely different premise.

I don't see anything that says "horror" there. I mean, we like a lot of the stuff they do, so really it could be anything. And the last time I heard them mention what they'd do after MH, they said probably comedy. Which makes sense; why would they finish a near five-year horror project just to jump right into another one?

That's crazy, everyone has all of the time in the world to watch amateur horror series, & wants to do nothing else.

But related to the thread's premise, it just occurred to me that people have a tendency of falling back on "if you don't like it, don't watch it, they can do whatever they want" whenever people explain their grievances. Well, maybe they took that advice?

I see what you're getting at; "We think you'll like it because it's the same type of thing." But it could also be that they think people will like it because Marble Hornets fans also tend to like THAC.

That's pretty much it, sadly.

They were really cryptic about this, though; I doubt this has anything to do with THAC itself, and I don't feel they would go and make a whole new comedy series when they're still coming out with new THAC videos on a semi-regular basis.

Keep in mind that this "new series" is almost certainly years off. I know there's nothing to go on, and I may just be overly hopeful or optimistic as I myself can't find too much enjoyment in the THAC videos, but it really seems like whatever they make next will be horror-esque in nature, or at least more serious than THAC.

We'll have to see what happens in the coming months. I'm thinking they're going to put their full attention on THAC for a year or two, and then show a teaser for their new "serious" series. One can hope.

HYPE.

I dunno, I seriously doubt they would do another horror again, as well as the fact that they never said it was. I'm pretty sure they said in an interview before that they wanted to do a comedy series when it's done but for all we know that may have either become Earth & You or Nature Break, that's even if I'm remembering it correctly. We know from the THAC videos that they have a good sense of humour but haven't been able to expand too much because of the MH schedule. I agree with Lithp though, judging by the MH fanbase's reaction to the THAC videos, that might be where "the we think you'll like it" came from.

Sorry for going OT though, we should move this convo to the THAC thread.

I don't know if they'd do another horror series so soon, but I seem to recall--and I may be wrong about this (I can't remember the source)--that one of the trio said or wrote fairly recently that they consider MH more "paranormal investigation" than straight-out "horror" (and there was a shift sometime in Season 2) and that they would be interested in maybe doing something related either to paranormal investigation or in the "suspense" subgenre soon. So that may also be what was meant in the Kickstarter video.

But, yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they're banking on those of us who are fans of them for more than their Marble Hornets work, liking their next project. I've enjoyed the majority of what they've done. A couple of THAC things and MH Entry #76 left me flat, but no one's perfect and no great artwork is flawless. I would love to see them do a suspense series with more obvious comic overtones (MH had some excellent subtle moments, and I think it wouldn't work without the trio being adept at comedy).

Yeah, this part of the thread probably should be moved...

Apologies for another off-topic post (and a double-post), but things have been confirmed. There's now a final stretch goal for the Marble Hornets kickstarter to "fully fund the new series." From the kickstarter page:

"What is the new series going to be about? The only thing we can share about it right now is that it will be similar in style to Marble Hornets; a mystery/horror type thing. We've always said we wanted to do a more comedic series next but, after thinking on it a bit, it might be a little jarring if we went straight into something like that after something like MH, so we're going to try and do a comedy series *and* a new mystery/horror series."

So yeah. To conclude my point: This is most likely where most of us will wind up; we'll be following the guys who popularized this whole webseries mythos in the first place. It only makes sense.

Many people have discussed this before. The market is saturated, guys. Watch what interests you, don't watch what doesn't.

If you're looking for a good ARG and don't feel like you've found one yet, try visiting the appropriate section in Unfiction - or, better yet, make yr own.

Sometimes i think itīs not the case that "the market is satuated", but rather that this fandom has developed a "let me have my cake and also eat it" mentality when it comes to what they want from a series, which is really a shame, because it makes it hard for creators to work with and get noticed nowadays (especially the newer ones, althrough several really would deserve it).

I really hate this whole "we're all dying, run!" mentality. Why?

Well, for one thing, the mythos aren't disappearing. They(?) as healthy as ever. In fact, as Baroness said, the market is saturated. I'm pretty sure that a saturated market is not the sign of a dying mythos.

Secondly, this is an unhealthy mentality. I know this from experience, as I've seen this whole "the [thing] is dying/decaying/disappearing" mentality turn a fully functioning, popular website into one with barely thirty active members, at best. If there is a list of things that are going to cause the mythos to disappear, then this mentality will be near the top of the list.

---
You know what, I was going to also talk about the general lack of inactivity in the forums and many of the threads, but I'm too irritated to discuss that at the moment. Partly because I keep seeing people complain about lack of risk-taking or creativity while the threads of some of the boldest series are being kept alive by only two or three members.

And before you say that this lack of inactivity is a sign of decay, let me tell you one place where the Slenderverse is plenty active: Tumblr. If you want activity, in most of the fandoms, look at Tumblr. (And I hear that there is a decent community on Reddit, too.)

Also, Tails has a very good point.
