thats subjective

Actually, that's pretty objective. In fact, incredibly objective. Not an ounce of subjectivity to it.

Explain how so, because it's definitely subjective in my eyes

Because none of this would happen without donating.

They need the money to make the DVD's and Blu-Rays.

The fact that you get some of them is an added bonus for even making it possible in the first place.

When you simply buy something, it's already possible to be made. These aren't. Therefore, you are simply getting rewarded for making the sale of this stuff able to be done in the first place. These are cold, hard, objective facts. You are not "Buying" them. You are getting perks for making it possible, incentives to donating. You aren't going to a store and saying "Yeah, I want THIS." You're saying "Okay. So if I make this possible, you'll give me this. Okay. Here's the money."

Tell them you are making a student film if they ask what's with the camera Razz

On another note, do people reckon it'll cost more or the same for the BD version as the box set?

Well the format war is over. Tiny VHS tapes > everything else.

Look at the amount of people saying "I'm donating (x) amount to get (x) reward". You're buying the rewards with a donation.

You're making the rewards possible with a donation. The rewards are just incentives to get people to donate. Product would not exist without a donation.

Remember, just because people treat it like they are buying something does not make them right.

It's not a donation unless you're telling them "Hey, I don't want the rewards I'm just giving you my money". You're basically pre-ordering the product here.

Saying the product would not exist without a donation is like saying that every time you buy a video game, the profits go towards making a new game that wouldn't exist without the profits from before, making your initial purchase a donation. They could get the same result of making the money by people buying merchandise, this is just a MUCH MUCH faster method as there's no way that much merchandise would get sold in time for the DVDs to get out in a timely manner.

It's a purchase, the only way it becomes a donation is if you give them money with nothing in return.

To everyone arguing whether you are "buying" something or "donating." The entire purpose of Kickstarter is for donations to help people get an idea or product off the ground. Those who donate get some type of reward in return as a "thank you," but it is still a donation.

It's not a donation so much as it is patronage - donation implies that you genuinely do not expect to get anything in return for your money, whereas here you are promised particular rewards (if you choose a reward tier) in the event that the project funds. This promise and the exchange of money creates a contractual obligation to deliver on the part of the kickstarter creator.

It's only a donation if you genuinely do not expect to get anything in return (by not picking a reward tier). Otherwise it genuinely is kind of like pre-ordering, to the extent that the creators are legally obliged to deliver the goods.

Which was more or less what I was trying to say. Wink

(Huh, Firefox doesn't let me log in to the forums, hence why I've not posted much)

This project reached its goal so fast. I remember when Joseph first tweeted the link to it, I was at work, so I bookmarked the link so I could donate when I got home. By the time I got home a few hours later....

But I did donate, I donated at the $100 level. Wish I had had twice that to spare, so I could finally do an interview with them for the MO podcast Razz

But maybe eventually I'll still be able to.

Huh, they must've added that $1k tier recently, but that's still a neat reward, that box full of miniDV tapes and notes from the characters.

Anyway, this is really driving home the point that /the series is nearly done/. If DVDs are expected to ship in August, that must mean we have only what, two or three entries left?

I'm gonna miss Marble Hornets.

Expected though, they may get delayed but doubtful. That means if they do 1 entry a month we only have....4 entries maximum.....oh

3 entries is more likely....but still.....

That thing with the tapes and papers is so awesome. They should've saved it for a reward in a contest or something to solve the issue of limited quantities instead of charging $1000 for it.

Also Blu-Ray funded.
