 [MOVIE] Entity
They'd better do this right.

Website – currently only displays the trailer.

We don't know too much about this movie yet, but considering the flagrant use of the Operator symbol and the (claw-bearing?) Slenderman, I think it deserves a thread here.

Unlike Sinister, which looked at least a little varied, the trailer kind of views like the most cliché horror movie one could make out of a creature like Slenderman. Fire, old town, missing children, the symbol... and screaming. Lots of screaming. Admittedly, I may just be pessimistic about this, but I have no desire at all to see Him adapted to the big screen, especially not like this.

What do you all think?

Their Slender Man has fingernails that are painted black. Ok then.

-Grotesque use of the operator symbol

-Slenderman claws, while cool concept, no.

-The idea of the film has been done before in many vlogs and films

-Is already twisting the story, which isn't bad but seems dumb

-The cinematography seems like this might save the film

3/10 would not bang

Maybe it's cliché, but hey- marble hornets is pretty cliché- or is it? is it not cliché because it's a trend-setter?
this is slenderman's first big-screen appearance- not many people are really familiar with slenderman. We can't set our standards so high.

i'm not going to judge this movie as a lengthy slenderman vlog, but as a horror movie starring slenderman, and i would advise you to do the same

i hope it's good, and that slendy looks pretty awesome...

The second I saw the operator symbol I was pissed. Not happy with the black fingers/claws either.

So do we all commit mass suicide now? Or wait until the movie is released?

Wait until the movie is released, see it, THEN commit suicide.

I'm waiting until the movie is released, personally.

I think what bothers me the most about Entity is the deviation from what we know. If they wanted to make a horror movie with a fire and missing children, gore and screaming, there are a lot of other monsters out there. They could even invent their own. But the implication is that Slenderman comes with a certain amount of intellectuality, class, and subtle complications, all of which they are blatantly ignoring.

If someone were to do a Slenderman movie properly in my eyes, it would be a part of a grander ARG. This ARG would be viral marketing, yet creepy in its own right. As these people have a bigger budget, they could afford to create props and take us places that no other ARG has done. People themselves would pore over tapes and go into creepy areas and have sightings. They would raise awareness and paranoia. Perhaps the film is the last work of the filmmakers who were making it. Because they didn't make it. It's not about the film, it's about something bigger. And Slenderman would be subtly horrifying. And his fingernails wouldn't be painted.

Okay correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't East Bay only really do B-movies that are direct to video? I could have sworn I've seen these guys do some mockbuster-type rip offs of other franchises.

Not considering this a real first-run production, gonna guess we'll see it on late night cable or something.

EDIT: the production company only seems to have a facebook. and they're in florida.

NIMBUS. I choose you!

Ya know, whatever.

This isn't a real movie. Judging by the production values, it will never hit theaters, and hardly anyone will ever see it.

However, I am perturbed by the reaction to Slenderman's claws. Is it really so horrible? Deviation from a model that is quickly becoming stale, is a bad thing? Whatever.

Yeah, and Thursday Night Films LLC. doesn't seem to exist at all.

I don't see what the problem is with this. What, are people pissed because an urban legend is being used as the basis for a movie? I guess I'd understand because that's never happened before.

Or, is it that someone is making a commercial film about Slenderman? I mean I guess I could understand why people would be pissed about someone trying to make money off the concept.

I just don't get it, this is guaranteed to be better shot than nearly every Slendervlog out there, the entire story will be available for consumption, immediately upon release. And, given the limited length of a film, we won't get 15 minute videos of someone pointing a flipcam straight ahead while they walk down the street/boardwalk/drive aimlessly through rural NJ talking about what they have seen. This should also avoid the need to put text on screen -- god I love watching a video where I need to read something to understand it.

Honestly, I worry that all these Slender Man movies are suddenly getting made, not because people want to make a good Slender Man film, but because they're jumping on a hot new trend. Confused Personally, the found footage route is much more enjoyable for me. It's less predictable, scarier, and overall more suspenseful. It's pretty much how we all got here in the first place. And, I think it's real nice for people to be novel and come up with new things in the verse, but to me, Slender Man being enigmatically unknown fits better in a medium like YouTube vlogging or blogging instead of a feature length film. This is because I believe that the scariness of Slender Man comes from POV/found footage/home movie realism, not Hollywood style realism.

I really hope these films like Hylo, Entity and the others are going to be decent, but judging from the cheesy trailers that don't scare me much at all, it's hard for me to maintain that hope.

That's just how I think, but I'm sure there are many others that think otherwise.
