Treasure Hunt in Las Vegas!!!! Dagger buried in Las Vegas worth $25,000!! There is a book out called "Vegas Die" and in it the author has put clues to the location of a dagger hidden somewhere in Las Vegas. Find it and he will give you $25,000 for the dagger.
I thought it was a neat idea and it's a ok mystery novel too. I was hoping to see if people on here would be interested in getting a discussion going on the hunt?
Check it out.

Everybody wants to come to Vegas and now you have an excuse!!!
Twenty Five Thousand excuses!!!
I think this is a great idea as it takes place in the city I live in! I have some idea's on the daggers location but so far no luck.
I am the local in the news clip. I met Stephen at a book signing and
e-mailed him some questions (I was skeptical at first) so when they interviewed him he gave them my number. It was fun.
Yes it is for real! $25,000 to whoever finds the dagger first.
I have been looking for a group of people who are ready to tackle this thing and share idea's. I'm in Vegas and can do any scouting of area's needed. I have also posted some pics on the Questor Forum.
I can answer (or get the answer) to any questions too.

New website They released a new website. www.questmystery.com
I don't know it seems they rushed it to me and tried to add waay to much content.
The author will release a major clue if 2000 books are sold by sept 1.
I have spent a lot of time on this treasure hunt and am getting very frustrated as I have been to 2 locations I was sure clues pointed to but found nothing.
I am looking for some help either on this forum or e-mail me
mikesscreennameATyahoo.com
please put Vegas Die in the subject line.
Thanks,
Mike

For anyone who has read this book and is participating in the hunt it looks to be legitimate as the author (Grogan) has been doing some publicity work in the Las Vegas area for the past couple of weeks (book signings, media spots, etc).
I have started a small Wiki (still filling in the blanks) here:
Link: Vegas Die Wiki
I'm hoping more people get involved in this hunt.

a puzzle solution There are likely many puzzles to be solved, but so far the only one that has been completely solved [and shared in the community] is the playing card suits at the end of the chapters. Only the chapters in Part 2 have been completely deciphered . Part 1 is a little baffling and Part 3 seems to reference a poem by Keats (On Seeing the Elgin Marbles ).
If you take the playing card suits at the end of each chapter in Part 2 you get:
Code:
DSHSCSSHD DSHSCHSSCSD DSSHHHD DSHSCHHD DHSSSCSHSSD DSSHHSSD
where D is Diamond, S is spade, H is heart, and C is club. Each chapter's sequence begins and ends with a D. If we remove the D's and replace the S's with dots and H's with dashes and use the C's as spaces we get a Morse Code :
Code:
.-. ..- .-. -.. . ..--- .-. -- -... .-.. ..--..
Which translates into RURDE2RMBL? (read: Are You Ready To Rumble? ).
Not sure what this actual means yet in terms of the overall quest.

Either boxing or Ultimate Fighting Championships (both popular here in Las Vegas).
So Mandalay Bay or MGM Garden Arena?

Were trying to tie in the Part 2 code with Part 3 and see if we can find something that makes sense. Part 1 still needs to be decoded.
So far boxing does not seem to fit.

Marketing!!! Call me a sceptic. Who is to say the dagger (not to mention the $25K) even exist. "By my book" is what I am seeing. There may be a clue or two in book one (obsure I am sure) then there is the next book and the next book...etc. What a great marketing scheme!
Hypothetical situation #1:
People go out buy the book, read it, talk about it (the dagger/$25000) more people buy the book. Nobody finds the treasure. Author writes additional books (with "clue" included to non-existant treasure). Author sells more books and makes more money.
Hypothetical situation #2
Dagger exists but... local
bum
homeless person finds the dagger under pile of trash but has not read a book or watched TV in 15 years. Keeps the dagger in a shopping cart 'causes its pretty. Nobody ever finds the dagger. Author sells books.
Happy hunting.

If the dagger is not found in 3 years the author will publish the clues and location. The location is being kept with a law firm for safe keeping. A local bank in Las Vegas has the $25,000.
The sequel to the book will contain a different treasure hunt with a seperate treasure than this one.
I've met the author and been to a cocktail party at his house. He seems like a honest person to me. He wants the dagger found and the money awarded so the sequel will take off from the publicity of the first hunt.
Also (aside from the above) they are now doing Quest Mystery tours here in Vegas to locations in the book. I have not been on one yet but hope to soon. Check the Questor Forum for details.

a cocktail party at his house? Was the Mayor there (I believe the mayor of vegas lives on the same street as him) or any other fo the non-fictional counterparts to his books characters?
How did that invitation come about! Very interesting.

No the mayor was not present. The party was in appreciation of the people who have helped sell the book. I was asked because I was interviewed for the local news as a Questor looking for the dagger.
He had around 15 people who were all involved in the promotion or selling of the book. It was fun!
I did take a drive around the neighborhood some very nice houses in that area I can see why the Mayor lives there.
