Sure. The police don't need to try and stop the letters from being sent, or intercept them; but they can warn the families that such letters are being sent, so that the family can ignore them or hand them to the police when they arrive.

Well, if you guys want to do that, sounds fine by me. In fact, it might convince people that the slenderverse isn't that bad.

On another note, notice all the articles simply asking "What is Slenderman?" Like, Slender Man is actually getting a lot of publicity because of this stabbing. It's morose, but wouldn't that mean, in a way, the mythos benefit from this? Because not everyone who reads these "What is Slenderman" articles is going to blame Slendy for this stuff.

That being said, I'd instantly take less popularity than stabbing and more publicity any time. No murder attempt is worth popularity...

Would you really want the mythos to gain publicity because of this?

Come to think of it, no. I was trying to look at the bright side of things and well...failed.

I don't want it to happen because of THIS. Also, I'm wrong about the mythos really getting popularity. The murders would get popularity, because look what happens now if you just type in "Slender Man" into YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=slender+man

Yup. First video is about the girls. It even beat Smosh...

Think at this point that ship has sailed, pretty much.

Absolutely - but that doesn't mean anything long-term; it's just what happens after something like this. As an experiment, try typing "Seattle Pacific University" into YouTube search.

Yeah...but the people who heard about the shooting probably don't want to attend the school :/

So...people who heard about this probably won't be interested in Slenderman...

I'm wondering if we should email the Waukesha police department in order to warn them of 4chan's plan. It might succeed in stopping the letters from ever being read by the family, or at least from reaching the media.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone had already alerted them to this.

oh man, fuck smosh. I guarantee they're either trying to find a way to milk this for cash for apologizing to the family on behalf of the mythos just for public image. And it's only a matter of time before finebros make a TEENYBOPPERS REACT TO SLENDERMAN STABBING video. When youtube dropped the ball, it dropped hard.

Yeah, uh, I've seen a lot of news reports showing the original photos from Something Awful, too, while still not blaming the people who made them for what the girls did. So what?

Well, Chris isn't too happy about it...he's been protesting about all of this, including the "It's fiction not reality" thing going on with the fans, saying that it would only make things worse, and he could get sued.

But I haven't been seeing any serious guilt-casting. It's subtle on a few stations, but it's usually directed to the creepypasta website and not the Slender Man series creators.

The more media coverage I see, the more convinced I am that the community made the right decision to stay out of the situation entirely. This isn't about us, and it never has been. And by choosing to stay out of it--by choosing to do so as a group--, unlike the creepypasta people, we've avoided the media spotlight. We haven't attempted to make a huge fundraising campaign to boost our PR; instead, people have been donating anonymously. The Tumblr campaign hasn't kicked off in the Slenderverse; in fact, many of the "its creativity, not reality" posters have been scolded by creators, and for good reason. We haven't contacted the media; instead, we've been keeping quiet, and various creators have even been declining interviews. We've done everything right. Unlike the creepypasta community, I think that there's not a target on our backs because no one knows about us, and because no one cares about us. Because it was never about us to begin with, and we didn't make it about us.

I had a feeling this wasn't going to end quietly.
