Sorry I forgot to mark I did it when I fixed the subject with [news/meta]

If someone is disturbed TO BEGIN WITH, and gets encouraged by ANY TRIGGER, they can drink their own koolaid and believe anything. Now take TWO people like that, and give them the same fantasy world... doesn't matter what, let them play it out and it will usually end badly. I know from experience, sometimes those "signs" can look like games/play in kids.

Also, I am reminded of the Parker–Hulme murder.

Hey OP, you should edit the details in the first post.

They didn't stab her in her sleep. They were GOING to duct tape her mouth, stab her in the neck, and cover her body with a blanket and sneak out in the middle of the night to go to what they thought was Slendy's Mansion.

They instead decided to wait until the morning and led her to a park to play where they were going to kill her in the bathroom where there was a floor drain to easily clean it up.

That didn't work, I don't know why, maybe the door was locked. But instead they played hide and seek in the woods. One girl seeked, the victim and the other girl hid. The victim was told to hide in a specific spot, and when she refused she was held down and then they stabbed her 19 times. They then told her to lie down so she didn't bleed so fast and they left her in the woods to bleed to death while they went to the mansion.

Then the victim crawled out of the woods and a cyclist found her on the side of the road.

The two girls were found 5 hours later walking down the highway with the knife in a backpack.

This is terrifying. This girl lived through a real life slendervlog.

As for Media fallout, I wouldn't be too worried about slendervlogs, most of them are obviously fictional, but the slender blogs are played off as some one that actually believe or encounters Slendy. Some even pretend to be proxies. The news can easily report that their are hundreds of blogs written by people just like these girls, some even talking about planning a murder or finding dead bodies.

It doesn't matter whether or not it is fiction, it only matters if it seems like the writer is believing what they are writing like these two girls.

Don't be surprised if parents start banning kids from Slenderman related things.

Someone should dress up as Slendy and go to their jail cells and ask them for $20 so he'd let them out.

I shouldn't have, but you just made me laugh for a good 10 minutes straight.

No. And this is a sickening suggestion.

USA Today referred to Slenderman as the "leader of the Creepypastas". I kid you not. In the comments section, I explained that many of the Slenderman stories were entirely self contained, and had nothing to do with the majority of non Slendy pastas.

One of the articles (non-USA Today) I read gave me the impression that "leader of the Creepypastas" is a direct quote from one of the girls, not something the media made up.

It's natural to panic about what the media's reaction might be, but I doubt it will be anything serious, honestly. It's still very early of course, but I expect the message eventually to fall along the lines of "should parents be letting their young children read this" as opposed to "should this material be banned".

I will of course edit the master post again, but not with what you put in. The accounts vary on the site, so I'm simply going to put a brief synopsis in and leave the links there for users to view on their own.

Yeah. Kind of insensitive, really.

When the message the media really should be promoting is actually talking to your children. If the parents of these two individuals took any interest in their hobbies or personal lives there would have been a plethora of hints leading up to this horrendous incident. In my opinion to consider murdering a friend a good idea warrants existing mental problems, prior to the obsession with the mythos.

I'm sorry, I wasn't very clear - I was talking about their awesome TV personalities.

To me at least, I agree with what Fox had said. It's a bit surprising that an internet creature would inspire people to attempt murder for it.

Next time I get a speeding ticket or something I'll blame it on Slender Man and hopefully spread the word.

Interestingly enough, that article still got stuff wrong. Look at the last line. Most media sources are reporting that the girl said she didn't regret it, not that she did.

This is a serious event. Someone nearly died. I'm not sure that we should be joking about it.

I don't remember reading that the second girl saying she did or didn't regret doing it, but that she didn't display signs of remorse.
