So about Entry 76

The only reason for 76 is for us to think Jessica is dead so they can have a plot twist.

It's possible that Tim actually intended for him to find it but acted like he didn't (for someone trying to hide it, it was pretty obvious in his pocket) though this is me desperately trying to make the ending make sense.

I don't think the tape was edited. I think she just teleported somewhere. Kind of like Tim in entry 83 at the end.

I don't know, I think it makes more sense to assume that the tape was edited for Alex's benefit, not Jay's: Alex wants everyone dead and he incorrectly thinks he managed to get rid of Jessica. The best way to keep Jessica safe is to let Alex think that he was successful, so that he won't come after her. Doctoring the footage (assuming that's what Tim did) to make it look like she was taken, that she was truly gone, is one way of doing that.

Remember, Tim skipped town when he found out Alex was nearby, but he left the tape behind in his house. He knew Alex was after him (as well as Jay) and he must have guessed that his house would be one of the places Alex would hit, and of course he was right.

Maybe Alex found the tape in Tim's house and watched it, maybe not. Either way, Alex was convinced that she was gone until the end.

As usual, I think Jay was an afterthought here: I imagine Tim reasoning that, if the doctored tape accidentally fell into Jay's hands, at least Jay wouldn't be giving anything away about Jessica's location when he uploads it online. But I reckon the main objective was to keep Alex from knowing the truth. Which is something Tim succeeded in doing.

Well, believing she was taken by the Operator sure made her dead to me, so I'd say it worked. Making it look like she'd been taken also made it seem pointless to even try looking for her, which would make her that much safer. Except Tim left the channel up, and if she gets curious enough to google something like "Tim, Jay, and Jessica" she'll probably find it.

Ooooh, maybe that's what they're going to do with the MH channel. They said "Marble Hornets as you know it is over". Maybe Jessica will find it, start investigating, and...

Probably not, but it'd be neat.
