SOLVED: Coded html tag hidden in DDGABcC.htm

Well, we're treated with more Phantom wackiness, complete with accompanying midi file. Hidden text at the bottom reveals this:

Quote:
21-1+22-23+" "+14-16+14-20+" "+20-11+42-33+43-15+33-2.htm

Whee, more fun! Very Happy

Quick comment since I'm fuming (that note was a FLAT?!?!?!).

Labryinth is spelled wrong:
Quote:

Both:
And in this labrinth
Where night is blind
The Phantom of the opera is here/there

EDIT:
Ok, I can't spell Labyrinth either.
That's the only mispelling I found. Did find some capitalization oddities:

The capitalization of 'phantom of the opera' changes through the song.
The first four times it is: 'phantom of the opera'
Fifth time: 'Phantom of the opera'
Sixth (and last): 'Phantom of the Opera'

There are also two non-capitalized lines.
'to glance behind' in the second verse
'inside my/your mind' the first time they sing together.

Sorry, I just have capitalization on the brain now Smile

It was a sharp (at least it is in the version I have of the midi, opened in Anvil Studios). I'm a bit confused by that, too, but willing to ignore it if it means I can move on in life.

Ya, I'm happy that we can move on and that I was on the right path. I was just about to start going through all the freaking combos possible for capitalizing that stupid string. At one point I had DDGABCc since the last c was lower than the first. At least I have no worries about the next puzzle. I know I'll never solve it.

This is a site which gives the numerical values for midi notes. Not sure if this second puzzle will be music-related, but you never know.

Ignoring the octaves and the negative numbers, the notes resulting from the conversion are:
A C# A# B D E D G# G# B F# A G D# A D

Neither AcaB%20DEDg%20gBfAGdAD.htm or aCAb%20dedG%20GbFagDad.htm are the answers, however. Very Happy

I think I'll sit back and watch on this one...lol...

/me hates math and wouldn't know a C from an A as far as music goes......put them together and I'm hopeless Very Happy

But I'm a good cheerleader!

Lyrics on page

The text is from Act I Scene 4 of the musical. This scene is called "The Phantom of the Opera." And is set in the Labyrinth Underground. I don't know if the midi playing on the page is the accompanying score to these lyrics or something else.

I somehow think the equation is what we should be concentrating on...unless you think the mispellings and the wrongly punctuated words and letters are a clue to what numbers or actions fit in between the " "?

the PhantomMain.mid is exactly equal to the phantom.mid found on this page: http://www.webcities.com.br/fmgcwww/clasmidi.htm

For what its worth...

counting letters from the verses gives:

NAHS " " MHEN " " EAMDSLAA

(No luck with ROT)

counting words from the verses gives:

Name my Phantom speaks " " of me the came " " the my I there and mask am

Nothing obvious....

I'm reaching here but this is what I have a the moment.
Start by taking the first verse from under Christine:
Ignoring all punctuation, start counting as follows
I =1
n=2
S=3
l=4
e=5
e=6
p=7 etc
to the end of the first verse.

21-1+22-23 gives you 21, 20, 22, 19 which equates to "r d h n". A Rot-13 gives "e q u a".

Now we've been told "second verse the same as the first" so I we write it all out again underneath and keep counting as before. If you substitute +129-37 into the first " " gap you get 21-1+22-23+129-37 or 21, 20, 22, 19, 148, 111 148=g 111=r. Another Rot-13 and we have "equate"

Continuting with the next sequence starting at 111+14-16+14-20 we get,
125,109,123,103 or n, t, e, n. Rot-13 give a g r e

So I leave you with equate agre...

I hope you follow this. I hope I've got my numbering right and I hope it helps. Perhaps someone else can pick up where I left off as I have to travel home.

Did you mean 21-1+22-23 gives you 21, 20, 42, 19?

21, 20, 22, 19 gives you "r d e n" while 21, 20, 42, 19 gives you "r d h n". That and I can't figure out how you would come up with 22 followed by 19.

EDIT: And how did you come up with +129-37? Right now I'm having problems figuring it out.

Second EDIT: I got that 148 = g, but for 111 I got "e" following your instructions. 109, 110, 111 = t h e (phantom of the opera). The closest r I could find would be at 115.
