Marble Hornets vs. TribeTwelve
Which do you prefer?

Honestly, given the huge similarities, which of the two do you guys prefer?

Marble Hornets

Just as a note, you did post in the Marble Hornets forum and not the general Slenderman Mythos forum, where it might have been a bit more fair. Including EMH and posting there would give interesting results, though I'd guess MH would win, but who knows.

The acting in Tribe Twelve isn't even close to that of Marble Hornets.

Also, it's a lot more derivative and follows the Slenderman mythos a lot more closely, whereas MH Just uses the character as a jumping-off point to do something far more original.

As for scripting... MH again. Tribe Twelve has lots of creepy moments and a fair share of mystery but Marble Hornets has far more sophisticated plot-twists and cliffhangers.

None of this is meant as a direct criticism of TT though -I'm thoroughly enjoying that series too- but directly compared to MH it falls short.

The thing about MH vs TT is that Marble Hornets has an actual team working on it, whereas as far as I can tell TT is Noah and whoever he can convince to help him out on a video at any particular time. Sure, TT isn't as polished as MH, but if Noah had been able to produce something of that standard more or less by himself with the occasional guest star that would be really amazing. I think TT is damn good for what's mainly a solo production but MH is better overall.

Marble Hornets, I just didn't get into TT. It's nice and edited well, but Marble Hornets has that little charm about it :>

Honestly, I give Noah credit for the hard work he puts into his series (especially the editing and special effects). For being pretty much a one-man-show, it's quite impressive that a) he's got a pretty visually-polished product and b) he hasn't quit yet like so many others have.

That said, I can't get into it. I've tried re-watching it a few times, but I can't get far past the half-way point right now (I lose interest early and by the German grandfather video I'm out). The writing/acting really kills it for me (although it does get mildly better) and the way it borrows elements sort of grab-bag just kills my immersion.

But I also have to agree with Playmer, this really isn't a fair place to throw this question out (although I suppose asking it in the general forum might elicit a response more heavily favoring TT). The majority on here are probably going to prefer MH.

it's kind of like asking if people prefer the beatles or stones on rollingstonesfanforum.com.

i definitely prefer MH, though it's no slam against TT. i love the tentacle effects noah is doing. it's not considered one of the best 3 slenderman youtube series for nothing.

I like MH better. So far I am at the grandfather video and have not gotten the same feel I have from EH and MH. Personally I really don't care for Noah or Milo and find myself rooting for Slendy in TT. Laughing

For what it's worth, the grandfather video is widely considered the turning point in TT - after that the series improves dramatically.

I think TT went in three phases:

- The early Milo videos, where Noah was imitating NH waaaaaaaay too closely. People called him out on it, he paid attention and considered the feedback.

- The grandpa video, bush-stabbing sequence, and other videos from around that time. A transitional period where Noah experiments a little with the format to see how he can move things away from the rut he'd established.

- The recent videos. By this point Noah has worked out what his strengths are (video editing and special effects) and decided to concentrate on them. Shit gets awesome as a result.

I just watched Box Analysis and can agree with the assessment you give. The park footage on that episode is pretty creepy and reminded me of the Silent Hill games.

Personally thought of it more of a Transformers vs GoBots type of deal.

Of course, MH being Transformers and TT being GoBots.

Personally, yeah I like MH overall, and I do give credit to Noah for attempting some different things, but I just feel like it's still too similar and just not as well executed. I will give it to them, the german grandfather was a nice touch, but I don't feel as much as an attachment to his character as Jay (maybe acting could play part in that, or the fact that I saw MH first, who knows). I think mainly I would enjoy the TT series more if it just didn't have so many similarities; hell, even if the distortion of the video tapes was for example a vertical cut rather than horizontal or something like that I'd probably feel a lil bit better about it, ya know? Eh maybe i'm just a dick.

EDIT: Also, is it wrong to hope in a newer entry of TT that Slendy mails Noah a bar of soap to wash his mouth out? Seriously, never heard anyone curse so much in a horror scenario.

I like Marble Hornets the best (gee, what a surprise), but I still think Tribe Twelve is awesome and does some things a bit better. The park video in Box Analysis, for example, is much better than Entry #4 in my opinion. It keeps me in suspense and really scares the crap out of me every time I see it, compared to #4 which is simply comical after the first few times watching it. Razz

I also think Noah seems more like a real person in terms of his Twitter updates and reactions (hey, I think the swearing is a good thing). However, I still like Jay more because, honestly, his crapness in the series is kind of endearing and makes me like him more than I would in real life. And sometimes the constant TT Twitter updates just serve to make their series less atmospheric -- I can't be the only one who snorted when Noah started tweeting about how much fun he was having with his family at Christmas...

I do like Tribe Twelve better than EverymanHYBRID, though. I know I'm probably in the minority on this, but I just don't feel like the kind of mystical, time-spanning paranormal storyline EMH is doing works in this videoblog format. It's way too confusing, even when I try to follow them through the wiki. I know that appeals to a lot of people, but for what it's worth, I prefer something of that complexity to be done in a traditional format so I actually know what the hell is going on. (I love the Chzo Mythos, for example, which has some similarities.) Plus, their effects are dreadful. I'm not someone who would hate on them just because of something superficial like effects, but... seriously, how did anyone know that the guy in the white jumpsuit was supposed to be the Rake? He could hardly look less like the Rake. O_o

In the end, though, all three series have their ups and downs. As Noah said on Facebook: it's not a competition.

I really liked them both. They both creeped me out seriously and involved The Slender Man. But I'm going to say Marble Hornets simply for absence of F-bombs.
