Oh, I saw it.... >Smile I saw everything...

Although it's already been removed, I would think that if the PM didn't want this traced back to him he would have removed that particular reference to QU13E from his blog. In spite of us letting him know about it, he's kept it on there and qeken is the third person to have found it, of the few of us who are actively playing. If that link is going to stay there, we might as well make it public that it's not part of the game so that people stop coming across it.

Anyway... while I was just Googling Qu13e to confirm that the link was still on the PM's personal blog, I found another Red Hot Pawn account for QU13E. What's interesting is that it actually has a draw in it, unlike the Clockstop The Whys account we were looking at before. This matches the story that HR was telling in his blog.

I still think that everything we need to solve QU13E is in QU13E, but I thought at least moon might be interested in this.

Does anyone remember where the first version of the "is this remembering or the middle of forget" poem was? As I recall it was identical save for the last two lines, but I can't find it to save my life. Might have been from the 2005ish version of qu13e? I think the different lines are the key.

Edited to add-- it has been a long time since I sat up late qu13eing. It is so good to be back.

Edit II-- Never mind, found it. From 2005.

I'm not sure what's more interesting... the differences or the similarities...

Was this solved in 2005? It's strange that even the capitalized words are the same...

Solved... no? Not as far as I have read at least. That copy/paste came from this thread http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=13596

That is only one of many clues that were reused as is or slightly altered from 2005 to 2009.

In regards to redhotchess i also found randomartin.
"Joined 25 Oct '02"
http://www.redhotchess.com/chess-player/randomartin
Also i doubt it is anything, but also HR http://www.redhotchess.com/chess-player/harryroberts

Correct me if i am wrong but I believe it is possible to steg an audio file? I am uploading the vampires song in hopes of finding something. I will try the key "Euterpe" first, as Euterpe is the muse of music (or muse-ic if you must Wink )
Edit - nothing. And if it's a different key word then nope im not sitting through that again. takes too long.

Perhaps this is obvious, but I just wanted to call out that in one more hour it will be October in Tokyo, and due to Random Martin's insomnious nature, perhaps we can be expecting some form of update or change soon. It might be a change on splinternails.com, an email, or even on qu13e.com.

Here's hoping...

SHEGRIEF

Is there a chance that we need to not discount the small letters and they might help us solve the riddle? We and others seem to have been looking only at the large letters....

Alternatively, has anyone tried turning this SHEGRIEF into a number puzzle?

Welcome, ghosts

UPDATE
It appears that there is now a video on HR's Live Journal account. Posted at 12:01 Oct 1.
The video is a song "Welcome, ghosts" by Explosions in the Sky, off their album "All of a Sudden i Miss Everyone" (Released February 20, 2007)
It's a nice song. Who knows it might mean something. For the meantime i'm just going to enjoy it.

Edit:

It appears that HR has fixed his gif, the page now displaying an image called AlmostFeedingTime.
Also his profile is now of the jaws of some kind of animal, wolf-like.

Meh I got curious and looked and now regret it. It's just a gif of a "yokai"-- a Japanese spirit/ghost-- attacking someone. However. There's no indication of other yokai (headless, footless, cannibalistic or otherwise) in qu13e. It'd be hard to convince me that this is a clue... Especially because of the type of yokai.

Edited to add the type of yokai is probably an "Onihitokuchi." Super common in stories since the Heian period.

If some or all of the SHEGRIEF riddle were references to something Japanese this would make more sense but I can't see how, lacking that many vowels, it could.

Had a crack at this, the crossed out segments spell RANDOM MARTIN. The text underneath each letter is the same in all circumstance, with different symbols for capital text. There's a good chance this image is an actual substitution key, the undercase letters have clear alternative letters beneath them. It appears otherwise because the text can get jumbled, so it's important to look at all instances of each letter.

The text for crossed out letters has a different font, but you need to look closely.

Incomplete at the moment, to be continued at some point. Let me know what you think.

supersekretsrsly, I do agree that there is some kind of mirrored language written underneath. And there are hints dropped all around that this is some how an important key to solving qu13e.

However, my biggest question is (and why I never pursued this line of inquiry further) is in which other picture can it be found? Assuming this is a language that would help decode some other drawing or solve some other riddle, which other riddle is that?

Do you think there are clues to what else this is related to?
It looks Greek or Cyrillic, but at the same time, seems to follow the Roman alphabet so I don't know....

Edit
I just took a look at the game directory for QU13E on redhotchess. http://www.redhotchess.com/chess/chess-game-directory.php
There is indeed a draw, like that "story" indicated. However, that draw was neither the first nor the last of the games.... And it seems QU13E went on to win other games. What I find more interesting is that several games are still in "time-out" mode, as if the clock was stopped....

The mind your peace and qu13es caught my eye. One of the origin theories of "mind your ps and qs" involves Medieval Latin.

@supersekretsrsly all of the crossed out letters seem to have numbers under them. Can you tell what numbers each letter has?

Since the obfuscated letters correspond to each plaintext letter, we can pretty much rule out the idea of it being an alternative message.

The letters do appear to have numbers under them. Under the crossed out letter 'I' on the bottom row the same '5' as under 'm' can be identified. It's hard to make it out, best guess would be -

816 None? 8 345345 178 None 56

Each crossed out letter has a particular number underneath it, except for the letter M and in cases where two letters appear together:

r = 8
a = 1
n = 6
d = ?
o = 8
m = 345

ar = 178
t = None
i = 5

The number under 'd' and 't', if there is a number, is simply too obscure to see.

As for 'P's and Q's', I've a few things in mind. I think that's definitely the correct interpretation of RM's meaning. One interesting possibility is that it refers to typesetting, as we know RM is a fan of typewriters.

For now, I'll see if there's any relevance between this image and image 345.
