It's totally true and it explains everything.

Oh, I don't know; considering how much time there seemed to be between entries, I always thought Jay had a lot of downtime. I guess he could have sold something. And let's face it, how many of Jay's decisions could be explained by sampling the product?
Although, I'm pretty sure Joseph was joking when he said that.
Marble Hornets as the darker, snarkier, David Lynch-inspired, quasi-Lovecraftian Up In Smoke for the Millennials, only with about 85% fewer laughs and 97% more sullen brooding? I dunno if I'm willing to buy that.

I like how this quickly changed from the "How'd They Get Their Money" thread to the "Jay Sold/Smoked Weed" thread

You know, 9 times out of ten people who smoke or otherwise ingest weed get silly and happy, while the other 1 out of ten experience heightened anxiety to the point of paranoia and depression. Was Jay among the 1 in ten?
Maybe Jay was selling that synthetic heroin that rots people inside out. Would explain the bags under the eyes and all the coughing up blood. Guess we'll never know now. Part of the mystery...

I had actually been thinking that Jay worked part-time at different Applebees all across the South, but drug dealing works too.

Yes, you can deal drugs out of a Waffle House, sure. Have you ever been to Tallahassee? Fire ants!

I came up with a theory around a year ago that I always meant to share, but didn't - until now. =]
I think Tim's occupation (which is never properly revealed) is construction worker. This explains a lot of things. His muscular build and generally obvious higher level of strength and stamina compared to Alex and Jay, despite smoking cigarettes... also, his chain smoking would be appropriate in a construction job where you are mostly working outdoors. Also, he could find jobs doing construction on the fly and on the road, with extremely minimal identification. Illegal aliens can get jobs working construction - Tim could definitely manage it with basically no identification at all I'm guessing, just by being white in the south. The jobs would've been sporadic and there wouldn't have been a lot of questions if he just didn't show up sometimes, or never showed up again. Work history would not have been important to his new employers. In the downtime between entries, its possible Tim was working on a construction crew to help support himself and Jay while on the run. To get a construction job, you basically just have to convince the guy running the job site that you have the skills to use a hammer and nails and not fuck up the building, and that you're a hard worker. You also get pretty decent pay, as long as you can keep up with the difficult physical demands of such a job, which, as I said, I would say that Tim definitely could.
Also, flannel plaid shirts. Right? I think it makes a lot of sense overall.

I like to think that Jay had a deceased relative or something, and lived off the inheritance money.

Wow I just was going through the THAC channel for fun and noticed that in the "official" fake trailer for Alex's IG Marble Hornets (here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzb-gK0wVrs ) Tim is clearly portrayed as a construction worker... so I was right?! Alex and his group of film students would not have had the budget to rent a bulldozer (or whatever that piece of construction equipment is that Tim is seen using) but I can definitely imagine Tim agreeing to be filmed at work, on location... and there he is, chain smoking in a flannel shirt EXACTLY as I postulated! I think that's definitely how they got the money to sustain them during their years of terror - Tim working odd jobs doing construction.

This reminds me of something they said on the commentary actially and him maybe being a construction worker. Something about Alex seeming like the kind of person who would ask Tim if he could get some b-roll at his job.

Wow cool! I really think this explains one of the biggest plotholes in Marble Hornets: how they got their money. Tim could get work on the fly pretty much anywhere, and would make a substantial amount in a short time.

Well, that explains it for Tim. Jay is still a drug dealer though.

I firmly believe that Jay got money through his YouTube partnership. It justifies his compulsion for recording everything (if you ignore the Oppy sickness)
