Poor James needed friends, so I emailed him today and he replied

Hi Eletha - it was an of chance - funnily enough, today has been a whole off day - i'm in bed, having twisted my ankle coming back from the shops last night. it was getting blistery cold and i started to jog back as it started to pur down. went over on the ankle which nrally wouldnt be so abd but when you have to drive on it - luckily have a few days off leave anyhow so using them up to get better. so im home right now.
stil, able to make toast!
as for password 3, what are the letters that are blacked out - it was that one that made me think of the files being like spies - though spies and goverment agencies only use the black ink dont they - redacting i think they call it.
dunno if this helps?
are you able to chat online? or talk perhaps over the phone? I know it seems off but im stuck at home and this usb seems to be looking at me, like hal in that movie.
daisy daisy!
Sorry - the strong pain killer is kicking in - better eat some of that bread!
James

He talks a lot about bread... Now, for the pw 3, I don't see any blacked out letters in the file. I'm confused.

ETA: Okay, now it makes sense. James sent me the file again.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The blacked out letters read "wonder bread is a clue." Yeah, he does talk a lot about bread Laughing

ETA2: Oh and he told me more about the dream

James wrote:
Yes, he discussed with me the fact that my childhod house had a tin in it, an old bicuit tin. it was the type that grandad's keep their bits and bobs in. so i went to the attic in my dream and then woke up. i had the odd feeling of seeing a usb in the tin - this is the tin that my grandad left to me amongst all the other bits from the ouse which was sold in the 80s.
before usbs.
shoved it all in the attic and then forgot about it.
yep. in the tin was a usb stick. it had the files i sent to you - who the man in the suit with the green nail was though - no idea - some sort of good force though as he was calm and warning me of something - though i cant rememebr what though.
any more luck with the passwords?
i'm about to have late lunch, having hobbled to the kitchen - glad i got the bread, despite twisting my ankle for it.
hope you're well - and all your friends. feel free to share these ramblings with them by the way - i just hit reply - unsure how to reply and include everyone, despite making contacts that includee everyone, its getting a bit titring.g

Just had a short exchange with James:

Quote:
oh boy....bread caused your injury? haha

sorry. not laughing at your misfortune, just kind of ironic Razz

I dont think Wonderbread itself is the code or password. I did look up the french word for bread and yes it is 'Pain'.

honestly though, i dont know how it even follows the same suit as the other 2 passwords before it....which makes me believe thats not the password.

In any case, we will keep looking.

Wow, well done mate. No idea how you got that. What's wonder bread then? Some sort of code?? French theme? As in a french word? Pain?! I'm in that because of bloody bread!

Fazer wrote:

James,

Sorry to hear about your injury. I wish you a speedy recovery.

In regards to the passwords, i got a few readable fragments out of Password3
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
one of them said that "wonderbread is a clue" and then I found, within the same document, some other words, which by themselves kind of dont make sense, but even trying to piece them together, it almost seems kinda vague.....

I was able to get something like: "Password is the bread themed french name."

It could be wrong, as I pieced it togehter the way i THINK things are supposed to be, but at this point...it doesnt make any sense to me.

Im working with the others to see if they can figure something out.

Maybe im just overlooking the obvious, or over thinking it Razz

-Fazer

It does seem that "pain" may be partof , or leads to, the correct password, but so far its not making sense of any kind, to me.

any takers?

Can anyone verify if "Cosmo" is the correct password solve?

James doesnt beleive thats it:

Quote:

youre right...i totally forgot about you losing the files if they were wrong :/

dont enter them just yet.

Let me get back with the person who solved that one, and verify thats the password they got from the puzzle.

Cosmo? Ellipse is a complete word right? Cosmo isn't. Don't want to lose the file but if that's what you think I'll enter both of them now??

Actually, when I looked at the maze now, I noticed that it continues on to the next page, so it actually says 'password is: cosmogonist'. I emailed this to James.

I also found 'pain', but didn't say anything, because I don't know if that can be the pw. It doesn't fit in with the other passwords. But he has three tries, so he could give it a shot.

ETA: So, cosmonogist was right, ellipse was wrong. I told him not to try the 'pain' yet, if we find something better.

Attached are some notes on Password 4. I need some feedback on whether I am on the right track. Starting with the capitalized letter in each block you can move up, down, left or right and start to make out some phrases. I have made some initial attempts but dont want to keep trying if i am on the wrong track.

Let me know what you think.

Just an FYI: the quote in the 'lost' files is from Einstein..
Einstein can be found in the 6th collection of letters in password4 file

These are great! I found some other combinations based off of yours:
Block 1: What is the cause of this...
Block 3: I think you read it by phone....
Block 5: Nature...

Does anyone know what "Q+T=LIB, [Q=4] Stand for at the bottom of the page?

To
Me

Thank you Karen - sorry - didn't reply, just glad you are well. Not heard rom you for a bit and therefore getting stuck into the usb stuff.

Hope everything is ok with you - dont know if your friends have told you about my sprained ankle? Also, something that they've not relaly touched on is how you all know each other? hope you dont mind me asking but its good to know how people know each other isnt it - for example, this Einstein - did he know Eddington? thought they might thats all, both being scientistts around the same time - that or it is just a coincidence they're both in these passwords? Perhaps I might get a letter from Einstein himself!

How would I explain that to people???

Right got ot rest, if i want this swelling to go down - what was wonderbread helping with by the way - people talking about bread, my ankle and stuff, wondering why bread was such a big deal? was it a bread code??

James

Think I got something on Password 4 - hopefully it's more thorough than my work on the maze... sorry about that! Printing off the pages cuz that's how I roll.

Thoughts
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It's quotes from the next paragraph of the oft-used Theory of Relativity and its Influence on Scientific Thought - paragraph 4, Password 4. I'll see what turns up when I follow that line of reasoning...

Ok - well. This is a doozy.

Methods
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Earlier guess was correct - following the text letter by letter reveals certain spaces in the jumbles. The text excerpts skip spaces (usually around the words Space or Frame, but not certain) in order to create spaces where leftover letters spell words. The excerpts jumbled in the boxes are not in the order of original text, but always start where the last excerpt ended in the top left of another box. Capital letters are starts of new sentences.

Box 1
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Fifth chunk of excerpt. Gap is in the bottom left corner - seems to spell 'angle'

Box 2
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Seventh chunk of excerpt. Gap is in the middle bottom - seems to spell 'indices'

Box 3
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
First chunk of excerpt. Gap is in the top center - not sure what it spells, but could either be 'epiphonemas' or 'samenohpipe'? Extra eyes on this would be helpful.

Box 4
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Fourth chunk of excerpt. Gap is a narrow windy one that seems to spell out 'magnetopause'

Box 5
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Sixth chunk of excerpt. Gap is at the top and center/left. Spells out 'gerundives.'

Box 6
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Second chunk of excerpt. Gap is in the top right - spells 'iff' or 'ffi.'

Box 7
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Third chunk of excerpt. Gap is at the bottom and center - spells out 'notations.'

So... In order by excerpt:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
epiphonemas iff notations magnetopause angle gerundives indices.

And in order by box:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
angle indices epiphonemas magenetopause gerundives iff notations
.

There's my grunt work - anyone have any big epiphanies from seeing the data?
Edit: Oh boy, the first letters are an anagram of 'imagine.' Helpful. But probably not.

Does anyone have any idea what the picture is of?

Wow, it was so much easier to go through the letter jungle when I knew what I was doing Smile Awesome job, jelloarm!
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I did get the same words as you, except if you form the word from the first box the same way as all the other words, then it's either 'glean' or 'nagle' (or 'elgan' which is Welsh and means 'bright circle' Laughing ) And the 6th word is probably 'iff' which means 'if and if only' and is usually marked with ≡, which we can also find in the 6th box.

But I liked the 'imagine' finding.

Perhaps "pain" leads to panis (long a sound) Latin for bread, part of appanage (french +bread)??? It is in the third paragraph, if that holds true .
