A film about a film student who cant come up with an idea, so he goes out to find inspiration and winds up in a WAAACKY situation!

Make it black and white...
and make sure its 100% allegory.

The duck represents mankind's dissilusionment with space travel.

What about this: (and I know it's kind of lame)

But, what about an ARGer who is playing, everything is a game (but not a game), and then when things get scary, and things look grim for the main character and a threat is placed on the players life by an in-game character, things start to become really real.

(Someone close to the player dies, or something, etc... could be an explainable event without the "murder angle" but too much of a coincidence to rule out... etc?)

Anyway, it could be this really cool murder/horror thing, (thus avoiding allusion to "The Game", as that was pure suspense/mystery), and you can really write it however you want.

(In fact, make it a "who killed the prominent businessman" ARG, so the killer profile makes sense in-game and out.)

But that's my idea, lame as it is. Smile

I've always liked the movies that follow several different characters, but they all have one common thread between them. Like they were each owners of the same dog at different times or they all end up crossing paths at a certain location at some point of the movie. But ummmm, yeah.... how about a AI that crashed her ship on earth? Wink

Shocked
i am humbled......i have no words...
as this script has to be actually filmed at the end of the year i need something vaguely easy to do (you get a grant of £500)

i was going to do this thing called golden silence about this mute kid that lives on this street with loads of strange people like bob the bloke who owns a donkey and janice who is obssesed with fruit. the kid then befriends them all by listening to them. it sounds pretentious but then i am a film student.... ah well. keep the ideas coming!

Easy to do on a budget, eh?

well, I still think you could do the quasi horror flick. (Karo syrup and red food dye don't cost too much Smile)

But beyond that, you could always do a film about a druggie's bad trip?

You meet a really dropout druggie, and his underworld lifestyle.

Then he takes acid or something equally trippy, and proceeds to freak out on bad dose or something (you can do some cool stuff with editing and visual effects without having to break the bank!) and how he then decides to leave that lifestyle. (Perhaps someone he knows dies as a result of his action or inaction whilst tripping?)

Anyway, I know it's a downer, but that kind of subject, in my history, always gets looked at more favorably by educators. Smile

EDIT: suggested title for the above - "LowLife"

The "common thread" theme that Varin mentioned, reminded me of a true incident that happened to me years ago. This story is about a wonderfully colored Mexican style blanket; where it had been and where had it gone. Maybe it will give you some ideas.

My brother found it on his front lawn one morning, with empty beer cans on it. He was going to throw it out, but I told him I'd take it because it was so pretty.

So I washed it (very well..several times) and kept it in my car. I used it on really cold mornings while driving to work, and often wondered about it's history.

One day, while driving home, I sadly witnessed a hit and run accident where a dog was struck (that b*stard in the SUV never even slowed down). I positioned my car near the suffering animal to protect it from being hit again. I got out of my car; instinctively, grabbing the blanket with the thought of comforting the dog. It was gently draped over her.

Other people gathered around, and someone suggested that we needed to move the dog; still alive, but badly hurt and bleeding; out of the street. So we used the blanket to carry her to safety.

By that time, someone else in the crowd called the number on the dog's tag to contact the owner.

Seeing that things were well in hand, I left the scene and the blanket under the dog, and tried to catch up with the SUV driver (who got away).

I chose to believe that the dog survived.
I wonder whatever became of that blanket.

It's a story that has alot of potential. I hope it helps.

I do believe this is the longest post I've ever written, and...gaah.. it's not even ARG related. Sorry about that.

I didnt mean to heap shame on your profession:P

Actually I was slightly serious about taking your dilemma and turning it into your project. Start with a film student with writers block. Add duck.

You could always write in a character named Duckie, but I'm pretty sure that's been done before Wink

Um, why do I suddenly feel old?

my nickname in high school used to be Duckie because of that movie. Does anyone remember Morgan Stewart's Coming Home Anyone? Anyone?

/me hears the sounds of crickets.

Movies aren't movies without three key elements:

1) An interesting, engrossing script that allows the audience to imaginitively predict how the movie will play out mere minutes into the future, all the while surprising them and thusly engaging them throughly.

2) Captivating characters that are, at once, easily identifiable and strangely complex, complete with quirky traits and flashy one-liner-laden wits.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
3) Dancing robots.
