It always counts up after it's reached zero. It did that the last time as well. However, nothing happened as far as I know. I stayed up and didnt see any of the Professor's name online. And I didnt see any Grendel broadcasts from shoutcast either. Originally the timer was for the Saturday, but it got changed. I'll see if I can figure out exactly when the timer was changed.

In an extremely brief convo with Prof??? (Im not sure after reading the "CW is not Prof. Roddington" thread) I asked him if the timer was our limit too solve the puzzle. And it was, so as we havent solved it, we missed the dead-line Sad

It would be nice if the rules stayed the same throughout. For the first broadcast we weren't anywhere near solving the clue and he gave us the link. The second time around Melody starts banging us on the head with clues when we hadn't even exhausted her first clue completely. Then the timer changes from a Saturday night countdown to a Friday morning countdown - with no other clues when it doesn't seem like we are making much progress. I feel like I'm scrambling around in the dark with a flashlight that works based on the whimsy of one of my ferrets. Totally unpredictable. Add that to the fact our base of problem solvers isn't that large - of course we're gonna miss deadlines. I'm not saying we're are totally blameless in not solving the problem - I'm sure we're capable of solving it eventually. But there has to be a better line between getting bombared with solutions and giving us the time (and hints if need be) to solve the problem on our own.

Actually, I much prefer the PMs just letting us suffer through it and slog through the puzzle on our own (in general) ... giving us that link was a real let-down to anyone interested in participating in a real solve, and it communicated (to me) that the game would go on with or without us. Which is a horrible precedent to set in an ARG ... both sides need to hold up their end of the bargain, neh?

That being said, I will say that there are so many different available paths to follow lately, it's hard to say what's a clue and what's just garbage ... and what clues relate to which thread ... and who is real and who is lying ... what a quagmire. At some point, things just start to become too confusing to be able to follow, whether it's because you can't anymore, or because you won't.

I'd love it if all the people who took off would try and come back and help sort this out before game launch; AWARE has potential, you know?

Ok, I found out the approximate times when the countdown timer changed. On the first update of blb on 4-19 (with the "second verse" quote) the timer was counting down to 24 APR 2004 23:00 UTC-0700. That date is consistant with the the Saturday broadcast the professor said would happen at the end of the last broadcast. When the blb page changed later that day to the Christine/Raoul verses, the timer also changed to 22 APR 2004 23:00 UTC-0700, which was last nights broadcast that I guess we missed.

I meant players. I assume the PMs are still involved! Shocked

I might be off-base (there are RLs that need attending to, after all), but things seem to have quieted down ... to the point that puzzles aren't even drawing people. Am I wrong?

Gypsy, I know what you mean. I'm hoping its just that Nash et al. are swamped with technical problems, and as a result, haven't had as much time to get on with the story. i'm hoping that as soon as things are ironed out, the story will pick up again. I, for one, am definitely hooked, and think this game has plenty of potential!! When I get home from work this afternoon, I'm definitely going to buy some Aware merchandise....I figure its the least I can do to help the PM's with their tech troubles....

I agree Gypsy.

The puzzles aren't hard to solve if you know what to do, but we have no real clue as to what we actually are supposed to be doing!
That music one was hard - I don't think I *ever* could've solved it! As for the one on BLB now, with the numbers, all I can come up with is the same stuff as everyone else. I've got a comp sci degree, so am feeling pretty useless!

I think the PM's are basing the game/puzzles on the fact that we all congregate here and on IRC so can share info, but IMHO the game should be able to support solitary players too, and those of us who don't have the time to trawl through 500 posts every day just to catch up.

I hope they tighten things up soon, and that like liek SM said, the tech problems are causing them to not spend enough time on story/puzzle development. Time will tell I guess!

I know I never would have gotten close if it hadn't been for Stormalong. Checking the actual notes on the midi - and finding the muted track - was brilliant. Stormalong definitely gets points for that in my book. Smile

Aww, yer a sweetie rowan. Smile

My talent seems to be in finding clues, not actually solving the puzzles. Although the solution to the midi puzzle was a little bogus, IMHO.

In the first couple days after Aware started, I checked the web server to see if it was case sensitive, and found it was. I thought to myself "Ugh, thats going to bite us at some point."
