Nope, nothing new. Long wait times are a common thing these days.

Sorry to burst your bubble again. I was just on the DarkHarvest00 page, and someone posted this link in in the "Posts to this Page" bar: http://chn.ge/1F6lZr0

Apparently Vinny is having trouble with the administration at Rutgers, and he's looking for some support through a change.org petition. He's had a number of personal and mental health issues that the University wasn't very accommodating towards, and this is throwing a wrench in his graduation. Feel free to take a look and sign the petition.

I'm pretty sure that the "entertainment" Habit is talking about are several books planted in Vinny's apartment. The names are the last names of the authors of those books, and the numbers are either words or pages in the books. That is why Habit wants us to pass the message along to Vinny.

I suppose we'll be getting a video revealing which books these are, and the choice of these particular books will probably be significant along with some clues inside them on the given pages. What confuses me, though, are the ones that don't list a page number... your guess about "FREE SPACE **THE**" is as good as mine.

Interesting. EverymanHYBRID further continues to encourage us to figure this stuff out ourselves. Fortunately for them, it works. However, more puzzling, if these books they're referring to are hardback or not. Depending on the version of the book we look at it, we could potentially be looking at the wrong page number. Or am I that behind in technology that I'm not aware of the use of e-books?

That isn't usually the way book codes work, though. You'd need two numbers, one corresponding to page number, and a second to the word on that page.

Aside from which, the obvious thing in the way of it being a book code is the two names without numbers-- Monsen plants, and Riley Thanks.

With "Thanks," you might get away with saying it's the Acknowledgments page, but "plants" has no corollary to books as far as I know.

Now, maybe it's a code that's unsolvable for us specifically-- book codes are difficult to use with a wide audience, as there are significant differences between editions, most notable between hardcover and paperback, but they're there even in straightforward reprints-- because there are books stashed in the house that have physical notes stuck inside at the pages listed. That seems much more like HABIT's style than resorting to a regular book code to me.

Still, we should consider other possibilities. I tried fiddling with the numbers to make coordinates, hoping for another Box (we're still due for one or two more, right?), but came up empty. Anyone else have ideas?

Anyway, if we're supposed to get this to Vinny, how should we go about doing that? Tweet it? I'd do it, but I'm not on The Twitter.

E-Books are useless for book codes. The end users can adjust things like font size, and on most of them, page numbers don't change with every turn-- for instance, you could be on page 254 for three or four swipes, depending on your setup. E-Books (except for .PDF and Fixed-Layout .EPUBs created using something like InDesign) have a fluid layout that change significantly from user to user, both because of the end user defaults and the device they're using-- an iPhone 5 screen is tiny compared to a Galaxy 10.1 Tab, and can therefore display far fewer words per page.

Sorry if I'm harping-- I do some typesetting and layout work for a few publishers.

EDIT: Didn't we get a new video very quickly after the last CanYouSeeTheWords update? As in within hours?

You're totally fine, Master of Octopi. I'm not that educated on how E-Books work; I just go and pick up either paperback or hardcover from my local library or buy from Barnes & Noble if I need a book. Your response is rather enlightening than harping to me, so thank you.

And, if memory serves correct, I believe we got a new EverymanHYBRID video within a day or two after the previous blog post. Not sure on hours, though. I came across the video first, then the blog through YouTube comments, I believe.

Nope, I think that we did get a new EMH video within hours of the blog post. They were both updated on January 6th. Smile

Yeah, hey, I'm an editor/publishing student, and there's likely to be multiple different editions for some of these authors... We can safely presume that this list absolutely cannot be dealt with like a normal book code. I looked up all these authors and besides the few who are ambiguous (Moore? Which Moore?), some of these authors have multiple works. Either there are specific books in Vin's apartment (like, one Camus book, for which this page number applies), which rules out the possibility of us being able to figure anything out, or this list is significantly more cryptic than that.

There is a Lars Monsen, a journalist, who is also an outdoor explorer. Which may explain the "Monsen plants"? Or maybe not. Googling "Riley Thanks" brings up a song called "Thanks for My Child." Relevant? There is also a game called "Free Space - The Great War", but that's the only thing I could come up with there.

If the numbers are anything we can decipher, the clue/correlation has got to be found in Jackson Pollock's numbers. Or all could be revealed in the next video. Idk.

I'm guessing that HABIT wrote inside books like he did with the Everyman play, since giving the author name and page number is not enough information for us, but would be enough information for Vinny since he presumably has these books.
