The Messenger Series
"60 mysterious songs. 2+hours. secret messages?"

Earlier today I found a thread on reddit's 'anomalies unleashed' called "60 mysterious songs. 2+hours. secret messages?". It was posted by user m123456m who has only ever posted that one link. The link is to a mediafire download which is a zip file of 60 mp3s.

The mp3s appear to be weird 'music' files. mostly strange repeated sounds and noises, as well as clips from some songs from the early movie era. Almost all of them are named after a person. ie: MESSENGER NO. 1 - 01 everett smith.mp3

I am thinking that there's some kind of message hidden either in each of the tracks, or in the tracks as a whole, and have been trying to figure out what. Started a thread on 4chan /x/ earlier and got some additional help. The names don't APPEAR to be significant. Googling them turns up very random people, or no one at all, except in one case. >http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anneliese_Michel#Exorcism_and_death All the rest appear to be innocuous.

I ran a very basic spectrogram on each file and here's an album of what I came up with: http://imgur.com/a/I2mge

Points of note: this one looks a bit like a face http://i.imgur.com/QZJde1k.png

and this one may be a figure: http://i.imgur.com/HltRz8Q.png

Other points of note: I'm wondering if the totality of the track names may be some kind of cipher, but Im not sure where to go with that idea.

list of all the tracks:

Opened one of the files in a text editor. There's a message inside:

12i21am13hiding9in14a1place14that3you5have9not14yet20found 5and18if22you1want12to9find19me6you9must22listen5to8my5sound 1but4if5you18choose16to15do19so9know20it9always15helps14to9take 19things2slow15for20in20the15end13what16comes1must19go19and 16must8not18stick1around19i5am9hiding19in15a16place5that14you 19have5not19yet1found

and it loops.

Working on slowing down some of the files now.

EDIT:

Found a message in one file, Mary Anne. If you slow down and reverse the beginning there is a message that says:

https://clyp.it/naijpad1

"Congratulations, you have found my hidden message. Come stand in the shadow of another world and glimpse it's towering infinity. You have seen. what no one before you have seen. You have reached the edge of my domain, a kingdom built on the forgotten dreams of children, and I welcome you inside. What starry eyes might behold come in and you shall see. But though I have shown you to the door, you alone must find the key."

Wouldn't completely write off the names, though it'd be some feat if all 60 of them were relevant.

Everett Smith was a president of the National Puzzlers League, and in 1935 coined the word Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis (P45) in an apparently deliberate attempt to create the longest word in the English language.

The wikipedia article is badly sourced, but there's a few other sites (Collins, CliffsNotes) that appear to verify the story. Even if it's not a lead, it's an amusing red herring.
