It's hard to tell. I just looked at the site this morning with the videos and am undecided at this point.

Sometimes the best way to sell something is to act like you aren't selling anything.

men of metal

It was an interesting read and the whole way through, I kept wondering what they are selling. I searched and found some related topics, thats how I wound up here. I can't seem to get the videos to play for some reason.

It will be interesting to see where it goes from here.

Interesting, here while reading the insert I thought it really was a chapter from a SF novel. I was pleasantly surprised it didn't leave a cliff hanger so I would have to go out and buy the book. Now it seems to be a realistic ad for a Mini Cooper. Quite imaginative. Two thumbs up to Mini Cooper.

fake, but convincing

The video clip that most solidly proves the non-authenticity of this whole thing to me is the "car stopping" test. Notice that the robot's shadow is casting toward the camera, while the car's shadow is cast away from the camera -- a pretty lame mistake, given the commonplace nature of CG imagery that we see today. Of course, I could be wrong. Any comments???

I don't get it, how can anyone think this is real? The engineering complexities of this are enormous...

Besides the fact that they don't do shadows well in the movies Smile (And note the movie where the robot stops the car. Too much momentum in too little time, the robot would be pushed backwards.)

Anthrax, seriously, it HAS to be real!! I mean, they have movies and web pages!!! How can that all be fake!?!?!? I mean, think about it.....its on the internet, right? Therefore, it's GOT to be real!! I mean, who would use the internet to lie? That'd just be crazy!

Didn't they suggest that this may play a part in a promotion in the future? Mine is sitting on the shelf above the computer.

men of metal

After a very big bong hit and much meditation, I am convinced that this is real. Forget about the technical hurdles man and just believe brother. If you look closely, you can see Johnny Sako hiding behind one of the minis.

The REAL marketing campaign

First of all, I read the booklet which came out of my Motor Trend a few months back... hint hint.

While I am completely in love with the idea, I must admit a few things come up. First of all, the videos look fake (especially the car stopping one).

Also, if a 65-year-old English scientist were to design a huge sentinel of the highways, I'm almost certain he wouldn't have given it the stupid Power Rangers head and face it carries (the booklet has a closeup, it seriously looks like it got ripped out of a Japanese cartoon).

And from another perspective, there's not enough in this booklet or the website to impress someone into buying a Mini. So if they are trying to sell something, they missed their mark entirely.

But am I mistaken, or is there a live action "Transformers" movie set to be made soon? The car stop test reminded me of that.
