[META] Ideltech emails I got an email address @ideltech.com today, despite the fact that I didn't complete either half of the employee application puzzle.
So, I guess the idea is that we're supposed to contact each other using these? I'm zspectorSPLAT ideltech.com if you care.
You'll also notice that this is my first post in this forum. Hi, everyone. I've somehow missed the entire pregame up to this point, so I'll probably spend a fair amount of time catching up...

Heya BMM, welcome to the AWARE forums and to the game!
Based on the latest events, I'm guessing there won't be a lot of action until the game launch on june 15, so you have plenty of time to catch up... don't forget to visit the guide at http://deaddrop.us/awareguide and the #ruaware IRC channel at irc.chat-solutions.org!
Have fun!

Well, I just finished my Part 1 and 2 applications, so hopefully I'll get an email addy too soon! I'm catching up as well, there is so much to read through! Thanks to those who have made the guides and wiki's. They really help!

I finally got my login info, but only after EMailing the addy of my Yahoo account to Jude.
Everything's working so far, and my ISP has no problems with outgoing mail. Weird thing, I used the Ideltech account to send test messages to both my Hotmail account and my Yahoo account, but only the Yahoo one went through...
Call me paranoid, but I'm starting to wonder if this isn't just a glitch, but an in-game thing where someone's doing some sabotage here...

I'm fairly certain that's not the case. If you Google "Open Relay", you'll understand a bit more about it and why some ISPs have disabled it on their mail servers.

There are actually two things at play here: port blocking and open relays.
Diandra is right in that most ISPs are not open relays. Basically, this means that any mail you send through your ISP's mail server must have their domain name in the "to" or "from" address. This is to prevent spammers from bouncing third party messages through their servers. The in-game effect with this is that you probably will not be able to use your ISP's mail server for outbound mail from @ideltech.com unless they have some other kind of authentication scheme (IP-based or authentication-based).
Some ISPs--notably the bigger, national ones--block outbound connections on port 25 (the port that your mail client uses for sending email) to anything other than the ISP's mail server. This is partly to stop spammers from contacting open relays elsewhere on the internet and partly to stop viruses that propagate through forged mail. The in-game effect here is that you will not be able to sent using Ideltech's mail server and must use your ISP's server (which is likely configured to not be an open relay--see above).
So, really, some people may not be able to send @ideltech.com email without some kind of web interface (Squirrel mail, etc).

I'm with Rasputin42x69 on this one. I've just had the following back from Jude
Quote:
Ms. Fox,
There were 2 emails that went out.. I show you received both. I dont know why you dont have the 1st personal email, just for you, with your information on it. The 2nd email was just a general if you have a problem email.
Now I'm 99% percent sure I never received the first email. I'm using a hotmail for my correspondence with Ideltech. This maybe a dumb question but does hotmail automatically send a read/delivery receipt? If not then how would Jude know I'd received both emails other then he didn't get a unable to deliver message on either of them?
Also, for those who received the "Email Server" Email from Jude did he include a list of email addresses in the To: box. I'm not that fussed about my "in game" email address getting out put some others might. I pointed this out to Jude and his response was
Quote:
I would never compromise someones privacy as you suggest. I'm not sure why you'd automatically assume I would. I'll need to go through our records to find your information again.
Finally I signed off my email as Sylvester Fox so I'm not sure what the Ms. Fox is about.

Hotmail has a tendency to send anything not on your contact list to the junk mail box. I have had it eat more inital game letters that way. Check the junk mail folder and then check the ideltech message then click the "This is not junk" and it will move it to your in box and add ideltech to your safe list.

Nope nothing in the Junk Box.
BTW If any of you are worried about me having some of your email addresses I can promise I wont do anything with them.

Hotmail is working badly lately. I havent received any mail from Jude yet (and I have deactivated the spam filter in the address I use for AWARE, so no mails in the junk box either)
not only that, but in another account I use for personal purposes I've received today (friday) mails from last monday...

Jude has written back with much the same analysis as Shelina. I've suggested he try my yahoo address. Has yahoo mail suffered the same problem?

I got the congratulations letter, but not the second one explaining some problems with Yahoo. And when I wrote to Jude, I got his reply.

Huh? So do I use this thing or not? I'm not working for Ideltech so it doesn't seem to apply to me. ...I may end up waiting for Syzygy.

To Rose Please wait for Syzygy. I think you are missing the point of the little game here.
