Puzzles for all! (Puzzle #3)

I figured a different type of puzzle would be nice (for some people, at least)...

Here it is, puzzle #3:

Don't worry, there ARE clues... Smile Here's the full puzzle, with the clues and everything: http://www.peterjmags.com/puzzles/crossword.htm

And here's a printable PDF of the puzzle, for those of you who like to sit down next to the fireplace with a glass of hot cocoa/sherry and work on a seemingly impossible cross number puzzle (sorry for the relatively poor quality of the PDF): http://www.peterjmags.com/puzzles/crossword.pdf

If you need a reminder of the rules, here's that topic: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3974

And if you find any glaring problems with the puzzle or the clues (I wouldn't be surprised), please tell me and I'll try to fix them.

Okay, too many URLs... I'm done now. Have fun!

Grrrr....I *thought* I had this, but I'm left with three blanks in 8-across that don't jive with the rest of the surrounding clues. I guess I'll have to redo this from the beginning.

Edit: The following link might be sort of a spoiler, but I did the crossword twice and came up with the same answer: something broken in the vicinity of 8-across, 5-down, 10-down. I am not sure if it is a fundamental flaw in my math skills or in the puzzle. Confused

Edit2: Nevermind. My table of squares was missing 22^2==484. It all seems to work out now.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I think that the answers to 39, 40 and 41 across might be
1296, 1 and 6498 respectively. Which leads to

Which gives me (8 and 7) or (5 and 3) as the pair of solutions. (aren't spreadsheets wonderful)
I still can't get the 4-across clue to fit though.

Congrats to both BriEnigma and Lysithea! I really didn't expect this one to be solved so quickly...

Here's the final solve, with all the right numbers and everything:

The page with the question on it can be found by putting all the numbers in the bottom row of the puzzle together and using them in the puzzle answer URL.

I looked over the clues and the puzzle itself, and everything looks fine, but I'm still not positive.

Anyway, puzzle #4 is in development right now (in my head at least). Smile I'll post it soon.
