Potential Trailhead in COD: Black Ops 3?
Came across a potential trailhead while playing Black Ops 3

Hi all,

I used to post on this forum a few years ago, wanted to get into ARGs and really enjoyed it for a few months but it was taking away to much time from my studies, and my MA was costing waaaaay too much for me to not pay attention to it. Always meant to get back in to ARGs, but never really found the time I guess.

Well, I think I'm ready to get back into it, because I *may* have found some sort of trailhead in the new Call of Duty game. Bear with me, this post might be long:

Being just a little bit geeky at heart, I love it when video games have 'hidden' bits that really fill out the back story, but you only discover it if you bother to search for it - if you just go through the main game, you'll miss whole bits of it. One of the best examples IMO is the first Assassin's Creed, where you could find out a bunch of background on Abstergo from Vidic's laptop, but only if you took the time to explore.

So, when I got BO3, I fell in love with the data bank, omnipedia, and all the 'hidden' story that it contained. (For those who haven't played the game yet, there's a "data bank" which contains a browser that lets you explore a fictional in-game internet that the developers have programmed in - y'all can probably guess what the inspiration for omnipedia is!)

BUT

I came across something pretty cool. So there was a link to a conspiracy-style site on the in-game 'browser' through the CIA homepage portal about a story on a fake CIA operation called "Udder Chaos", where the CIA allegedly tried to weaponize cows and goats. Because of course. Anyway, the story was posted by a user called Thread Count. There was a bunch of comments on the user's profile, and one of them was a parody of those "I made $XXXX at home a day! Click here to find out now!" But the "Here" was linked. Obviously, it seemed a bit weird that there was a link to a spam post on an in-game browser for a fictitious in-game browser, so I clicked it out of curiosity. It took me to a website of a fake hacker group (seemingly based on Anonymous) named "Druon Antigoon", after a real-world folklore tale from Antwerp about a giant with the same name. They claimed to be releasing "2000 bits of truth" for their anniversary (either Anonymous or LulzSec did something similar in the real world IIRC).

Anyway, on their home page, was a bunch of a morse code. The link to the "2000 bits of truth" went to a 404 link also covered in morse code. This obviously perked up my long-neglected ARG spidey sense. Well, when I translated the morse code on the home page (in two sections), it spelt out this:

"The information below is critical to your knowledge."
"Cordis Die is my one true master. I serve only to expose the truth. Death is not the final chapter."

(Obviously, Cordis Die is the main antagonist faction in Black Ops 2)

Then on the 404 page, the morse code spelt out this:

"The imperialists have found us. Flee while you can."
"Go to the city of Walcourt for more information. There you will find a market. Seek out the man with the red scarf and tell him "the giant has risen". More information will follow".

At the end of the 404 page it says (in English) "Please join us on: 090501090603".

I have no idea what to make of that last bit. I don't remember a reference to "imperialists" in the Black Ops mythos. Walcourt seems to be a city in Belgium, but I have no idea how I could "go" to Belgium in the game, making me wonder if it's something physically in the real-world Walcourt in Belgium? Could this be the start of an ARG? Anyone have any possible clue what that string of numbers mean? It's one digit too long to be a UK phone number, would that fit the format of a Belgian phone number?

Part of me thinks that there may have been no point to posting this, because I've only just finished the third mission of the game, and all the questions could be answered by the time I finish the campaign. BUT... it COULD be an ARG right? I'm not just clutching at straws here?
