Another idea. We have 16 pictures, right?
Feel free to trout me if the next thought was mentioned already.
Every picture, beside of the "enter picture" may represent the birthday gift, if we suppose, she is 15-16 years old.

We have to rearrange the pictures in right order in order to get the right picture if 13th birthday.

Picture #8 is of kittens...or as Tag refers to them, 'experi...uh,slusho-kits!'

"Tagruato's troupe of Slusho! Smilers! struck again last Friday, this time at a remote animal control center in Takayama. Bearing armfuls of Slusho! happy drinks for all the lower wage workers, the girls also organized a Slusho! drinking contest for two dozen of the center's caged puppies and kittens."

"While all the shelters received a generous donation from the Tagruato Cares! foundation, the centers with the most Slusho!-friendly animals were purchased and welcomed into the Tagruato family. These centers will undergo a full renovation in the next three years, making way for modern facilities with up-to-date research, technology, and rehabilitation equipment."

And we're sure everything Tag did after filling those lil' furballs with slusho was 'above board'...aren't y'all?

Alternatively, the gift may be inside the bunker and is visible somewhere in the trailer.

SO THIS TIME, I DID IT RIGHT FROM THE START. IT'S HUGE, SO MUCH BIGGER THAN WHAT YOU PROBABLY REMEMBER! BUT COZY! AND I FILLED IT WITH EVERYTHING YOU LIKE! WE'LL BE SAFE DOWN THERE, HOPEFULLY FOR YEARS IF WE NEED TO. BUT I NEED YOU TO COME TO ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THEY MAY ATTACK ANY DAY NOW, SO THERE'S NO TIME TO WASTE.

We could look for coincidences in the trailer for each one of the items. We already know the teen magazine might be related to the one MEW is reading in the trailer, of course all the stuff with the Eiffel Tower is in several places etc (including the shirt MEW is wearing, which could also belong to Howard/John Goodman's daughter), we just have to locate every single item... The beads could be difficult, though.

From the other side, forget it: things depicted on the FUPT site have no relations to the secret gift he gave to the daughters 13th birthday.

Look: he seems to live in divorce. Probably his exwife couldn't cope with his paranoia abd bunkermaking. She also worry about mental sanity of her daughter and try prevent every possibility for contact.

I mean, sure, dad is desperated, but this is creepy :

AS SOON AS IT IS, I NEED YOU TO GET INTO IT AND LOCK THE DOORS BEHIND YOU.

Perhaps just to birthdays. So pictures we see here are maybe "official" birthday gifts, so mother won't complain about it. The real secret gift must be something else. And if we think about isolation father/daughter, the secret gift must be a radio. Communication tool.

So the keyword should contain somethink about it.

I tried

Hamradio
Ham radio
Amateur radio
Radio

Still doesn't work though.

Yup, that's the route I took when I approached it, I believe there must be something in there. I tried everything related to radio communication, from antennas to satellite dishes, nothing. Arrived at Telstar sats through the link to telemetry and Bold Futura government clientele, no dice (since there were also links to soviet tech).
This part of Howard Stambler got me real curious and I believe it may be a clue of sorts:

Quote:
Howard will celebrate his seven-year anniversary with Bold Futura in the fall. This month, Howard's drive, commitment and refusal to accept easy answers resulted in a significant breakthrough diagnosing transmission complications with two of our governmental clients' orbiting satellites.

It feels like a clue for ARG players, like this has no obvious answer and instead it's compelling us to look beneath the surface. The orbit stuff is what led me to telemetry (since his job is also Telemetry Analysis), so there's probably something in it for that. But I don't see how a 13th year old girl would be involved in such kind of technology, I do see her with stuff like in the movie Contact (as I said posts ago) or walkie-talkies, anything that could allow them to communicate secretly without being interfered by their mother. Interference, static, noise, jamming, signal blocking... I don't know, but "radio communication" seems to pop out like a serious clue here.

In other news I did a little bit of digging in the source code... There's a file in the page called http://funandprettythings.com/build/js/vendor-0744bb3f51.js, which would've gone unnoticed to me for being simply the script that creates the password form, except it was edited deliberately to include this:

Quote:
console.info('You do not belong here.');
console.info('Megan would never come here.');
console.info('I know who you are and will be tracking you.');

//# sourceMappingURL=vendor.js.map

Which is the same text included in the html comments. Why is it repeated there, I have no idea, but... There's that commented code right at the end of the file. If you add that to the domain address as http://funandprettythings.com/build/js/vendor.js.map it leads nowhere, but if you look at the other file included in the source code (http://funandprettythings.com/build/js/chat-1c2c111c14.js), you can see there's another commented code similar to the above posted, except it says:

Quote:
//# sourceMappingURL=chat.js.map

Following the same idea, I put the filename in the domain as http://funandprettythings.com/build/js/chat.js.map, and this one turned something out:

Quote:
mappings":"AAAA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;
AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA;AACA"

This is only part of the file, you can see the rest up there, but I did find interesting how the only string within the list that differs the rest is AAAA. It's probably a long shot, but poking into these files looking for clues led me to these findings.

[edit to break the long string of AACA that was stretching the window. kona]

I broke down and bought a four pack of Slusho....I mean Swamp Pop. Smile

I think I'm also going to buy a Cannibal Airlines t-shirt. Because it's cool, and I loved Heat Vision and Jack.

My assumption is that Megan is 22 years old at the time of the movie.

Here's why:
1986 is the release year of 'Pretty In Pink'.
1999 - Y2K scare happens. She'd be 13 at that time, which fits the 'feel' of the character, and both the millennium scare and her 13th birthday are referenced on the second page of FAPT.

Two other things are esoteric, but fit my theory -- in 1999, the guy who designed the Cannibal Airlines VHS tape box released Heat Vision and Jack, and DVDs were still about three years from being widely adopted as the primary format. For a while I thought that might be what Howard got Megan that was secret -- 'Don't tell your mother I bought you that horror movie.' -- It'd be touchy for a thirteen year old to get that AND while it's shown in the trailer, it's NOT referred to on the front page to break the narrative of 'this is all clandestine run by a tech-savvy paranoid'.

So, based on the VHS tape and the movie not being age appropriate for a 13 year old -- I did the math. Today, she'd be 30.

But -- this movie is 'blood related' to Cloverfield.

So, how old would she have been when the attack on Chuai happened in 2008?

She'd be 22. -- Younger than the age of most of the protagonists of the first film.

Theory...but I think it fits.

I found a pic of the lucky cat from the FAPT page.

This seems like it should be the perfect password, I tried a lot of variations but maybe I missed a few.

RadioGirl

So I'm sure it's not IG but there is a RadioGirl podcast that appears to be out of the Chicago area. Howard refers to Megan as RadioGirl in the letter and he mentions the shelter he built is near her Grandma's old house in Chicago.

I don't think we can figure out how old she is from the information we've been given.

I definitely think Megan is potentially not a young child anymore, and Howard simply remembers her through rose coloured glasses from better times (as I previously said) HOWEVER we have at least 2 clues that place all this in modern times despite all the retro references.
1) Michelles Iphone
2) Rainbow Looms - They've been a HUGE craze with kids over the last few years, and they were only invented in 2011: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow_Loom
If Megan was into them, than that's not so long ago. Now it's possibly just a mistake on the PM's part (maybe they were thinking of Gimp which was totally a 90's kid thing).

But either way we don't have enough reliable sources to extrapolate anything about dates.

I agree with Pixie earlier about the timline being fudged for cinematic purposes. Especially until we have better information.

Who art thou Megan?

I don't see how the second password would be decifiered without finding Megan, on the internet somewhere, facebookish or a tumbler, blog as she is a unknown at this point. If parents are devorced last name is unknown even...

I mean you wouldn't ask a secret question and then put a cipher on the front with the answer right?...er right?

If we are to use the trailer again assuming all your favorite things are in it, were back to puzzles, sunflowers, tower ..etc and I still am not sure how that locates Megan or determines what she got for 13th.

Maybe another clip will show more?.. I dunno

You're right, perhaps we need to wait until Megan shows up, some sort of internet presence will surely puts us on the right track. Good thing we got Tagruato to put us in the context of the film, but we don't even know if Megan is actually a character on the movie (as in, MEW) or someone from Howard Stambler's life that will be referenced. And either way, there's still that link on the page that leads nowhere:

I think we might need to find Megan, however, we do know her last name. Divorce doesn't change a child's name. Assuming they follow naming conventional norms, her last name is her father's last name.

EDIT TO ADD: My friend Marni reminded me that Pretty in Pink is playing on Valentine's day around the country because of the 30th anniversary {they will be showing a behind the scenes of the alt ending where Duckie and Andie get together instead of Blane}. Could maybe there be a new 10CL trailer released with it?

For what it's worth, there's this: http://www.census-info.us/search/STAMBLER,MEGAN
Which of course references real people's data, but it's the only stuff on Google related to "Megan Stambler" that isn't from this forum or reddit.

I'm sure other people have considered this, but 'Megan' could just be a smokescreen and we are supposed to use kloos like "13" "Chicago" and "EiffelTower" to come up with.... something.

{ I don't really believe that, but I've had no luck locating Megan either }
