Someone on Reddit (/u/thebuggalo/) made a great point about this! Howard never mentions the monster attack in the letter. He talks about Y2K and building a shelter for that, but wouldn't you talk about the monster attack being the bigger issue, in some way? I think there's a possibility that even if we are in real time, the letter may be from some time between 2000 and 2009.

I think that's what I wanted to establish. I emailed the contact address on tagruato.jp asking if they had an updated site since the main page only goes up to '07. I'm expecting an auto-response, but sent just in case.

Based on previous experiences, this is real time. There's no indication of when the events of the movie take place yet, but the events of Cloverfield took place after the movie's release IIRC.

You mean the events of the 1st ARG, right? The phrase "events of Cloverfield" means the appearance of the monster in NYC, to me, which happened before we see the movie, because the movie was built from found footage, taken the night of the attack and later reassembled. (I don't remember if the movie established how much time has elapsed. Honestly, I don't even remember if the first movie was supposed to be a military archive film leaked to the public, or some other framing device.)

This kind of ARG bugs me, because the community is caught up in trying to "solve" the plot of the movie. I don't want to deconstruct a trailer and predict what the rest of the movie will be. I want that slice of entertainment to be separate from any immersive story, even if the ARG parallels the events within the movie. It's just me, it's how I consume entertainment.

Moving back to the FaPT site, the image which bugs me the most is that autumn crafty thing. Is that a wreath or a centerpiece? Why is there a green fuzzy egg wrapped in the middle? It just doesn't feel like something a tween girl would make. (And I don't follow reddit, so I don't know whether or not the source image has been found. I don't think anyone here has posted a link to any similar item.)

LOL I also spent a long while search for green fuzzy eggs on Google images, but didn't come up with anything resembling that image. I have no idea what that thing is supposed to be, except perhaps some craft project gone awry.

That's right. I remember there was something confusing about it, because the movie takes place May 23, which is neither September nor 1-18-08.

So I believe the way this worked (referring back to Cloverfield Clues to construct a timeline also supports this) is that the events of the ARG lead directly into the events in to movie. If you had been following the ARG including the stuff they released the day before and on the release day, 1-18-08, then went into the movie that night, it will be as if it happened in real time. I think midnight showings might have thrown this off where you were actually watching the events a day early as far as the ARG timeline is concerned. Anyway, this is backed up by the characters getting ready for the party that night, as well as Jamie taking way too much Seabed's Nectar and getting ready for a party in her last video released the morning of Rob's party on 1-18-08. Now where things get really tricky is that we know from watching the movie that those events took place on May 23 (presumably 2009 as it was a Saturday). The only real explanation is that the Cloverfield ARG uses a bit of a floating timeline (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floating_timeline). I really believe this is the only way to make sense of things. Basically 1-18-08 in our world / the ARG world is the same point in time as May 23 in the movie. It sounds complicated but its really not, it's just kind of an is-what-it-is situation if you ask me, not something to get hung up on. If someone else can offer a better explanation, than by all means please do!

So the more than likely hoaxy/fake Twitter account for Howard made me try to find Megan on Twitter and then tumblr, nothing came up, then I tried seeing if maybe Howard had something....... Found this trying the obvious: https://radioman70.tumblr.com

So the first post is from back in November 2015 and is the Effiel tower picture from funandprettythings. The rest of the posts are things from The original ARG (chaui station under water photos and I believe the typed version of the radio transmission/communication).

I've never had a tumblr account but have used the site before. I'm pretty sure you can't change the date of posts however I know you can edit previous posts and change your url. Can someone who has used tumblr more weigh in on if this is possibly faked or not? I find it weird that he'd use his employee of the month photo as his profile photo but if I'm not mistaken all of the posts predate our findings (specifically the effiel tower photo in Nov. 2015 and posting of the link for Funandprettythings on January 10 2016).

That transmission chat-log is...very interesting (from what I can make out) - it refers to someone (Howard?) saying "It wasn't after them."

Who is 'it'...?

Can anyone sharpen the resolution on that picture of the chat-log and post it in the thread, please...?

The fact that the website's robots.txt file excludes all spiders and indexing tools tells me that no one is meant to find other pages by walking the directories.

I do find myself wondering what the 'void' links will look like once we do get past this gift prompt. Will there be a new tab on the top bar? Will his name link to a profile page? Will we gain access to an archive, a chat log, a set of documents? Even if I could guess what the destination page might be called, it doesn't mean that page even exists yet. Fancy backend programming might generate the page when it is unlocked, meaning it does not exist now.

If you mean this image I see "Atsumi" talking with "4707" and no proof this is Howard -- nor that it is even an official document or part of this ARG or whatever we're working on.

Have their been any siginificant findings since Thursday? I have been sick and fear I am a little feverish.
