You guys. You guys, seriously. I haven't been here for like 8 years. I joined this site way back when to take part in the Cloverfield ARG, and now here I am, coming back for 10 Cloverfield Lane.

It's like slipping into a pair of comfortable pants again.

Comfortable grumpy pants.

Good to be back. Very Happy

Was this the Superbowl one you think?

No, this one is different, I believe...the Bowl clip last about a second longer, and had a more 'metallic' ring during the roar than this one did (IMO, of course).

Hmm- compared just recorded to you tube - can't see/hear any difference. No new scenes or dialogue anyway.

It's quite possible we're missing certain 'intonations', depending on whether earbuds and/or regular speakers are being used...especially when we're dealing with multiple audio-clips.

Confused

So, audio is a strong suit of mine. I spent a lot more time with that roar last game than probably necessary.

I've listened to the SB clip in ear buds, studio headphones, pc speakers at work, jiggled with the levels, etc. I'm 95% certain if there's any MGP in that roar, it's blended over a human scream that's been stretched (which is primarily what's giving it the mechanical sounding aspect) and the pitch lowered. What that means I don't know, but I'm confident it's not our angry monster baby that trashed Manhatten.

If anyone can capture some decent audio, I'll gladly do some spectro analysis on it, as well, for clues. That's the main thing I haven't been able to do.

Edit: I should state, though, that there's likely nothing there unless there's a soundfile for us to find somewhere. Just movie speculation at this point.

If we can pin down these coordinates, who knows, maybe you could help. As I've watched people assemble what seem to be coordinates in the New Orleans area, I began to wonder if they might point to a geocache. I'm not sure how many of you have ever done any geocaching, but it's a game of finding small hidden containers all over the world that you locate via their coordinates. There's usually a log inside for you to document your find, and sometimes some little trinkets you can trade for.

It would be pretty cool if BR left a geocache for us at whatever these coordinates are, and even more cool if it contained a further clue for the ARG.

In that case, it wouldn't be a "geocache", it would be a "dead drop" - to be a geocache it wouldn't be tailored to a small specific group, and it would have to be registered. But a deaf drop is specifically don't by the PM team of a game leaves a KL00 or swag (sometimes both) in a specific location for the player base. (Fun fact: Jeremy was a speaker at ARGFest 2013 in Seattle).

I'm ready for disappointment again! We all thought the Cloverfield ARG was gonna be a big thing, but then it turned out to have zero impact on the film.

So far the focus of this one seems to be happening in real time, allowing the players to learn what Howard is up to in the days leading to the "event" that precipitates the movie.
The main mystery to be solved is a series of numbers that have been hidden in the varies trailers that seem to be either an IP address or an geographical location.

If that 30.6 is right- then latitude would be have to be north of New Orleans. Do you know Covington at all- can you think of any tie in it would have?

This post won't shed any new light on, well, anything, but here's what I find interesting about the ARG experience (so far) for 10CL. I find it fascinating (and, cool) that a lot of this ARG is built around (or at least utilizing) things that exist in our reality. However, those things are being bent or at least applied to the alternate reality of the game where they take on a new meaning.

* Instead of featuring a fictional soft drink (Slusho) this time around, Bad Robot has opted for Swamp Pop. I think Swamp Pop probably took the notoriety from the ARG and (smartly) ran with it, with the Long Term Shelter Supply and puzzle pieces (which came from a puzzle that already existed). Heck, I know I bought a case of soda from them... which was awesome, by the way.

* The FAPT website features a picture from Pretty in Pink. Coincidentally (or not), the way to access Howard's messages to his daughter are by inputting a line of dialog from PiP.

* The Life Preserving Information on FAPT has links to weather conditions and satellite trackers from government websites. Howard also posted about an Amtrak fire in New Orleans that was very real.

* The alternate trailers contain images that already existed, but were slightly altered (the numbers) to give us a potential clue.

* Heck, even the movie itself used something that existed before 10 Cloverfield Lane. The movie started off as a script called "The Cellar" before it was re-written and given the 10 Cloverfield Lane

* Not related to what I'm saying, but cool nonetheless: The Employee of the Month page exists, but is nowhere to be found when navigating Tagruato's website directly. The page is exists almost as its own entity, with a picture of a very real actor among others who are most likely Bad Robot employees using pseudonyms.

And if the numbers from the trailers are simply pointing to the DoD website... well, that falls in line with all of this. Maybe that's the point of this ARG; maybe Bad Robot is using things that exist in our reality, but bending and reinterpreting them to fit the reality of the movie.... thus 'alternate reality' game.

But, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. The fictional band from the first ARG (The Glass Helmets) had a song called "Ockham's Razor", after all...

So, this could just be some peppering. Like when the teaser trailer debuted and people noticed "Woman" by Wolfmother was playing at Rob's party. Researching the lyrics to the album, we found the song "Joker and the Thief" which contained the lyrics "...as she's standing in a field of clover". Also at the party was the Gorillaz song "19-2000" which has the lyrics "There's a monkey in the jungle watching a vapor trail, caught up in the conflict between his brain and his tail"... that's a pretty good and humorous description of Clover himself (also, monkeys played a small part in both ARGs).

To wrap this up, maybe this time we're being given more of an 'experience' than a 'game'. Just my observations, anyway.

It can only move as fast as we solve it. We don't know what Megan got for her birthday, we don't know what the trailer pictures mean, and until we do the game cannot move forward.

The Obligatory Cloverfield Monster "Roar" Comparison

So I was bored, and you know what happens when people are bored, right? Fun things happen!
In an effort to try and put to rest some doubts regarding the roar heard in the trailer and whether or not it was the same familiar roar we know well (and not just some rumors about Howard Stambler having a bad case of cramps), I ripped the audio from the 10 Cloverfield Lane Superbowl Ad (source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ED0_uV3SVG0) and a video with the isolated Cloverfield monster roar from 2010 (source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ED0_uV3SVG0), then isolated the roar in the 10 Cloverfield Lane Ad and put it side to side with the other audio, to make it easier to compare.

Here's the audio: https://www.sendspace.com/file/a31zvu, first roar is the one from the trailer of 10 Cloverfield, the second one is the one in Cloverfield. The only edit I made was normalizing the volume in the first clip with Audacity, because it was lower than usual, so right now they should be about the same level.

1) Why didn't I use the audio from the Walking Dead Ad? Because it was obscured by the trailer narrator, so it was useless for this purpose; besides, it seemed slightly shorter.
2) Why didn't you put both clips in each channel to see if they matched up? Simply because they belong to different sources, the first clip is very noisy, like something is burning (as you can see in the trailer, there's some light coming from behind the house, perhaps a bomb went off?) and in the second one, that roar is heard in the middle of Manhattan, where there's echo and it distorts it gradually, so this is the best I could do.

It was hard to tell from the waveform for the aforementioned reasons which is why I didn't take screenshots of it, but if you trust your ears, you can tell they're virtually the same roar. Clovie has some other variations in the roar (you can find the full clip below), but the closest one would be the deep resounding one you can also hear in the 10CL trailer, and it follows the same signatures. I wouldn't say this is a red herring, and all along they intended to make this in the same Cloverfield universe and use the same monster or another species of it since the beginning, and considering Tagruato is involved, it's more than obvious now, the roar is just another piece of evidence.

The ripped audios are here, in case you want to check for yourself:

And 'trust my ears' I do, Antares. As my 'better half' puts it oh-so colorfully, I can "...hear a mouse fart in the next room..." - it's an ability that's come in mighty handy, however, re: avoiding trouble, so...

Wink

Many sincere thanks extended to you for doing the side-by-side comparisons, as well as posting the links. No doubt it was a time-consuming process, and your results are much appreciated.

Very Happy

So our priority right now, just to clarify, is figuring out an order, and getting clearer images of the remaining frames (floatation device in particular).

We're lacking confirmation of the second decimal point in the longitude (though we have independently infered it's there, and we're pretty confident about it). We also might be missing 1 or 2 digits which would make the two sides of the coordinates symmetrical (though that's not necessarily necessary).

I'm actually pretty sure our 1e "On Deck" image is pretty good quality as it was leaked ahead of time by a projection room worker.

I'm also pretty sure it was indeed 5742, I recall seeing it in the picture. This puzzle would certainly make more sense if it were only 742 though. And I can't seem to find the photoshopped image. I recall it being super clear though.

I really thought, given everything in this ARG so far, that the coordinates would lead somewhere unreachable.

A dead drop is pretty fun, but in my head I'm imagining a fallout shelter filled with swag (unlikely but HOW COOL WOULD THAT BE).

We have a clear flotation pants image now.

We still need clearer images of the Mustang Survival tag and the On Deck magazine.
