These sort of gamejacks happen in this time and age because no one at that giant brainstorm of a site that is reddit bothered to debunk that huge stretch that was the alleged "poster clue". I made an alternative to consolidate the clutter and they banned me. 10cloverfieldlane.slack.com is what I set up because reddit sucks. I have enough credits ($250) to make it premium so its all downloadable and would prefer to have it be decentralized as far as admins.

Also everyone can invite whoever. I have used this for another hard hard arg and it works well.

Ps. Reddit suucks. Who bans someone for nothing and doesn't ever give a reason? It was a particularly salty user too. Muh rehddeit!

stop. Slack isn't bad, don't get me wrong, but if you want to play a game HERE, fraking play it HERE. Don't sign up for an account HERE and announce you started something in another platform for us to play on. Just play HERE!
(My views are my own, this was written as a long time unfiction member who doesn't want to leave unfiction, which used to be the ARG hub before the kids took over Reddit, and not as a moderator.)

Also, while I am at it, there seems to be a misconception that swamp pop game jacked in the first place - I'm QUITE sure they have permission to be doing whatever they are doing. It is still a marketing campaign of some sort, so I won't call it a grassroots game, but if there is anything happening at all from them, it isn't a game jack. The game jack is some asshat on Reddit getting shits and giggles out of detailing everything for this town amusement. Just like when someone posted here on unfiction pretending to be the PR person from SP. A game jack is not a cross promotional official campaign just because it isn't by the movie company. Jeezy creazy.....

If and when something leads back to 10cloverfieldlane.com or something that is more clearly in-game, that will be more convincing.

I would say our only real ARG is linked to Swamp Pop, not Bad Robot, and by extension to their store and the jigsaw puzzle they are sending out. I'm still on the fence about whether White Mountain wants to play along beyond their product placement in the film, and I'm not sure Re-Marks puzzles even knows one of their products is current being used in a game.

http://drinkswamppop.com/
http://swamp-pop.myshopify.com/

Any new locations need to link back in a logical way to these sources, without doubts. In the old days of ARG 1.0, our doubts were more along the lines of "is this really happening?" and "is this a real company?". Maybe ARG 2.0 evolved into "is this a clue?" or "is this in game?". Then ARG 3.0 introduced "is this official?" and "is this a game jack?", and I dread where ARG 4.0 is taking us.

Sooo... I was looking at Memory Lane again because I don't even know anymore and I noticed that under the arm of the sewing machine there's half a word. That word looks like it *might* be MYSTERY?

Lying on top of the sewing machine is a box or card that says "transistor radio" as well as two floppy disks (yellow and blue).

And listen: I'm VERY aware the puzzle could just be random retro nonsense that I am drawing connections to because thats what the human brain does...

But I also noticed there's mail, a crate of soda and boxes of puzzles collected in the lower lefthand corner. Which makes me think... Maybe this puzzle is called memory lane because when we look back at it, it's spelling out how this arg is going to go down?

If so, we're going to have to make a phone call soon, because Barbie is pointing directly at the Street sign, which is pointing at the Rotary phone.

Also know that I hate myself for being crazy theory guy :/

Edit: Gonna post a link to this itemization of a Wired metagame that ran in an issue guest edited by JJ Abbrams to prove just how obtuse he can be with these things. Might be useful for various reasons.
http://www.wired.com/2009/05/0514_metapuzzle/

Edit 2: The antique Sewing machine is an obscurer make than your average Singer called a "White Family ROTARY". Rotary like the phone or the dial on a Transistor radio. Both of which also appear in that area of the puzzle.

Edit 3: CRAP. Things like Enigma machines use multiple Rotary dials don't they? Rotary's can absolutley be used to encrypt information. Crap crap crap.

Edit 4: Oh, right, Mystery is a synonym for Enigma...

Edit 5: The antique cash register used rotors too! This feels like something!

Jack or no jack?

There is a new biograpy at the QRZCQ site. It says UhG2mER, which when put into imgur leads here: http://imgur.com/UhG2mER

btw. Nice to drop by again after many so years!

EDIT to add text extracted (using http://www.onlineocr.net/) from the image.

Augsburg, 1W. August 2007
Sehr geehrter Hr. Flemingstein,
rhard Ploecker

2X Ninja EDIT to add google translation:

Dear Mr. Flemington,
I hereby apply to your request and for the post of engineer diver in your company. Due to the high security measures which prevent me tell more about your company I will come directly to my passion for diving. Since my childhood it was always my dream to go to the sea and diving with my father to go. One thing led to another and pretty soon I had my first diving qualification. On holidays, I spent more time under water than above. After my studies I made my hobby into a profession. You certainly know that this job does not offer great income. Accordingly, I am very surprised that you offer me such a high sum. I am willing to take the risks mentioned by you. Since I can exercise my hobby with you, thereby, albeit out of the country, can provide for my family as I never could alone, I would love to be part of their company. Please let me know if you have any interest in me, in good time, when I have to leave the country. I am aware that these things run fast. Denoch I would have liked to prepare.
With fineundlichen regards,

JACK!

Put QRZCQ into a Google search, and the 2nd result is a list of complaints about that website going back to 2012. It is not "in-game" it is not A game, it is to be avoided.

Do research. Stay focused.

I was lurking until they banned me. I made an account to play here, as you can see in my post I am not recruiting anymore there's a lot of people there already who I have told about unfiction as an alternative. Just saying slack is better than reddit at this, I am trying to organize info that's it. I came here to play and commiserate about the state of reddit.

I should be getting some pop today. Smile

Are you implying that you got word from somewhere that they do have permission? The way they're intentionally avoiding the IP implied to me something different. It's not a misconception, my conclusion is that they don't have permission. Regardless, it's semantics and I'm not trying to pick a fight with you, just clarifying why I called it that.

And yes, agreed that Reddit (which I somewhat like for other things) is pretty terrible for this because of the lack of moderation and the lack of experienced ARGers (of which I do not count myself, even though I've lurked here since original Cloverfield and played along with multiple since then) to help build momentum behind the promising leads and leave the obviously unrelated Imgur and other weird forks in the road by the wayside.

The voting system allows the most domineering and frequently wrong voices to get to the top while somebody politely correcting them gets down voted to oblivion. Not productive for teamwork!

Doesn't the ham site trace back to the poster image from the official Cloverfield Twitter account? Therefore how can it be a game-jack? Is it just that there was a lot of text in the poster and someone extracted it and made a fake ham site named after the first line?

Because one could easily pick a string of code from the meta data of any image and then lay a breadcrumb trail from there that looks very deliberate and clear. People will jump past the first "discovery" and see that the trail from there is very clear and forget that the initial connection is totally random.

I gotcha. So really everything from that ham site is suspect at this point, including the propeller looking symbol, the RQX thing, the German letter, and the "soon" and "patience" messages.

Go back to page 56 of this thread (if you're on default posts/page) and see the work that users did here to recreate (and not recreate) the string of data. It's pretty clear that the string is not a solid lead, at least in my opinion.

Ok something else from Memory Lane (I know I know)

The weird creepy doll next to Howdy Doody?

It's a something called a Cragstan Crapshooter. Its an automaton that shoots dice (it also came in a monkey - Monkee? - model).

It's a Japanese tin toy that was imported in the US in the fifties by a company called Cragstan.

Here's the thing about Cragstan: they also imported Robots. Hundreds of different models of tin robots. If you've seen a tin robot, it was probably imported by Cragstan.

http://www.google.com/images?q=Cragstan+robot

The EXACT SAME robots can be seen BY THE DOZEN in Bad Robots office.

https://www.instagram.com/bad_robot/

In fact, the Bad Robot logo *is* one of these toy robots.

Bravo, well said! Very Happy

The SP thing was awesome regardless if Paramount or BR allowed or did not allow them to do it. Brilliant marketing plan regardless!!. As soon as the trailer dropped I went into investigation mode (no pun intended). After my intial shock and amazment of the trailer I spotted the SP bottle....did a little search, found their site and saw the shelter pack. Then I saw the price....wow what a feeling, like finding a lost treasure. Like 2008 all over again. All of this before I came here or anywhere looking for clues of an ARG (at first I hadn't even supspected one yet?) This was day or even hour one. Then I decieded to go see who else found it and what may be afoot.

When the puzzle pieces started to show up I just could not get into the spirit of it all. Still feels like just a great marketing idea and that's it......but over at reddit WOW....like I said they're the ARG for me at the moment. You gotta get enjoyment out all the ludicrous stuff they're dreamin up!

I'll stick with continuing to dissect the trailer and the possible clues we have that are right there in front of us....but in the mean time I will follow the reddit threads cause it's just to friggin good not to!!!
