There's also a new post up on Carina's blog.

A couple of things I pulled out of that post...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There's a reference to King Solomon. The specific reference is to Kings 3:16-28 of the bible - maybe the cipher (if that's what the image title is) can be applied there?

The photo clue for the beginning of the scavenger hunt. Perhaps it's the Physics & Astronomy building at Northern Arizona University since that's where the Cline Library is?

Just throwing stuff out there.

Why has Winter been so quiet lately?

Re 8972665.jpg: Zero luck here as a cipher tho Magister finally confirmed on twitter that the jpeg represents the 15 boxes (letters) needed for the book title.

Am thinking Carina's Team will be heading North towards the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff where Pluto ("Planet X") was discovered. ETA: Nice catch, Cherry, on the Solomon's Wisdom reffy. Also: Winter tweeted about her new story, an interesting interview mentioning that Melody's body was found "Near the airport".

EDIT: Tweeted my choice for the 2nd book:"Heart of Darkness" by Joseph Conrad. It was adapted into the movie "Apocalypse Now". The Congo river journey is a significant theme in the book and Conrad was, himself, a merchant marine.**A truly dark book & crossing fingers**

Good guess Amandel although the the movie title clue was -co-. I would presume if it was apocalypse now it would be -c-o-

Amandel / Cherry have you emailed Carina with your thoughts yet? If not perhaps comment directly on the blog so we can see any further conversations with her

Edit** congrats Amandel. The magister has confirmed you were correct!

Holy crap! Good job, Amandel! I couldn't make sense of the clues at all.

Oooh this fits much better than I was thinking. I was figuring a college scavenger hunt wouldn't take folks too far from the campus since students have classes and such but this could definitely work.[/img]

My idea is so NOT a better fit than yours, Cherry. In fact, am thinking they're sympatico: first , they'd go to the Astronomy building to look for a clue heading them towards Lowell Observatory. And your emoticons make me smile. THX Cool

Yaha, 2 down and just 10 to go. For me, playing quasi-charades for book titles is a lot like bobbing for apples: it's exhilarating yet it feels like there's something tasty always a bite-too-far away. Laughing ETA: Tried to submit on Carina's blog tho maybe it didn't take.**lazy IPad shrug**

There are two books. I smell a pattern brewing in the pot. How does this intersect or feed an estate sale, M. Carina, an art professor that for now I will dub "Flagg" for proving that he is good for the deeds of old, or ruling out, and a heavy dose of Stoicism considering I think we have visited with a Sophia not long ago.

Hi people! Some good sleuthing going on here! I'm not able to really keep up, bur still check in when I can.

Some loose speculation on 8972665

As a phone pad cipher the last four numbers convert readily to BOOK, not so much with the first three. Sad

Can anyone come up with an author whose initials can be derived from some combination of these letters?

8= TUV
9= WXYZ
7= PQRS

Let's go for title same theory. Good idea on phone. Three words fifteen letters maybe.

Since they are in proper order I don't think there's a number cipher here. I do find it interesting we are using the old 9 planet system since there are currently only 8 recognized planets.

Well a little google search and I discovered that this is the actual gateposts at the observatory. Laughing

I'm not sure that this is even a puzzle for us to solve since she says in the post,
Quote:
I'm in the process of writing up the first part of the scavenger hunt, which took place at the observatory. I will post the clues we solved and those that we still don't get.

I think this is just a picture of the scavenger hunt trail marker or something similar. She'll probably tell us when it's a clue they didn't get.

Pluto was discovered there, and I don't think they concur with the de-plantetizing Smile
