Another video! Yay!!

So, maybe the #winnerwinnerchickendinner is just a reference to the meals in general, then. It must be about the images. I really hope that he scans them next, or takes really great head-on pics of them. I tried to manipulate some in Photoshop, but can't really get anything from the pics that were posted. If there's a pattern in there, it's hard to pick out due to the words that they're printed on top of. :/

I want to help but there's nothing I can do! *goes crazy waiting along with everyone else* He's very lucky to have a wife that's into this. My girlfriend won't even listen to me talk about the game.

Not even some of my friends do, hahaha. But that's okay, doesn't make it less fun Smile
I'm really impressed of the way this whole thing turned out. Stoked to see where this will lead.
First of all I believe we need to find which kind of code represents the black squiggly lines on the cardboard, in order to "crack it" properly. I was thinking something similar to QR codes at first, but seeing as the package came with color filters, there must be more to it. Kind of like:

The messages...

Messages like these are commonly called red reveal, but can be done in other colors. (Google that one..) If the messages are written in black, or blue black, then the message should show up using a black or blue black filter. How do we get a hold of this guy? Has he tried all the colors together? I'm dying over here!!!

He said he tried all of the colored lens combinations he could think of, from one at a time to all of them together. No luck.

The latest gif says "Eat your dinner."

Could it be that there's writing or something on the inside of the ration boxes? Or that they need to be taken apart and a light shone through? That's my best guess on where to go from here.

That obfuscation overlay looks *so* familiar, and I can't figure out why.

Like I want to say it's on the back of checks or something? Or paper money when you photocopy it? Something about security stuff.

I just really think I've seen something like it before somewhere.

I actually know how it functions - it has horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines to camoflauge the horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines in the strokes of letters. Think of it like when a digital calculator breaks and all the little elments turn on - making a bunch of eights.

Why I know this, I can't tell you. It's driving me bonkers.

Edit: Like these. But also not these? Way to be non helpful, brain.

I also want to say shipping invoices & mailing labels which starts to ring a bell for this arg anyways (although Swamp Pop orderers just got a printout I think?).

After all, USPS is the only US alphabet agency not implicated in this conspiracy at this point.

So, maybe it's like how when you photocopy or scan a dollar bill, it comes out wonky, and that's what needs to be done here!

Huh. That's actually not a bad idea at all. Certainly can't hurt to try. Although I'd maybe just high res scan it & shine a black light on it first.

*twiddles thumbs* Is there any other promising lead right now? I want to do something, but it feels like we've exhausted anything else (other number patterns, eiffel tower, etc).

Wow! This is a huge!
I just finished analyzing and playing around with the three different audio file for awhile and could not find anything. However, the file sounds like someone recorded it from another device (e.g. an old tape deck) and the file looks to be recently made (indicated by the date in the file name).

This is not anything new, but I wanted to add my two cents to the conversation. Embarassed

I think the clue Wont be revealed by a hidden message in the pattern, but instead by figuring out what made the pattern itself. From looking at it, you can tell it's a repeating pattern. It doesn't really have much variation. The one thing the does change, is the length and way each ends at the top and bottom. This alludes to these being applied by being rolled on. This would also explain why some have a slight wave. I think once we figure out what has a similar pattern and could be rolled in ink and then applied to the boxes, we'll be moving in the right direction.

That's a good idea! But I don't think they really look like stamps. To me, the white lines through the Xs makes it look like they were printed on with a badly maintained printer.

But how would they even do that, unless they took apart the boxes? I can't wait for him to wake up, and hopefully he will follow the suggestion to check inside the box!

I think the "flash of red light that seemed to come from everywhere" bit of the recording might be hinting toward red -- hinting that either the message itself is in red, or that we have to filter the red out.

I also noticed that in MugensKeeper's video (0:22) some of those Xs seem disappear through that red lens.

So I think some reasonable options are:
    1. "Enhance" the red: Look through the blue lens, and if that alone doesn't work, shine red light on it (w/ flashlight only & red lens) and then look through the blue lens. (This seems like the best 1st try given what we see in the video above.)

    2. "Block out" the red: Look through the red lens, and if that alone doesn't work, shine blue light on it (w/ flashlight only & blue lens) and then look through the red lens. (This might not do anything given what we see in the video above. though I guess they could have been extra tricky and used different colors in different places )

    3. Try the above using the green lens in place or red or blue (if the above don't work).

Another thought is bio-florescence (which is very common in deep sea organisms though IDK that they'd spring the $$$ for bio-florescent ink). We'd have to use a UV light and then may have to look through a yellow filter (which I don't think came in that Army flashlight).

And since those printed Xs look kind of like the duplication prevention measures on checks/prescriptions, we should also consider looking at the areas without the printed Xs.

EDIT 1:

Technically, if the message itself were written in blue, a blue filter would obscure it - we'd need a red filter to reveal it. If the message were created in the negative space of a blue ink pattern (or w/fine red ink buried in a blue pattern), then a blue filter would reveal it.

A few of us have suggested just looking through the lenses, and they kind of have (see the video above). I've posted my longer list of suggestions on his Reddit post, and he's going to try some more stuff tomorrow. Here's the Reddit thread w/ that video and where you can make suggestions: The MRE Video

EDIT 2: If color filtering doesn't work, superimposing the overlays from each of the boxes would the next best step -- visual cryptography/obfuscation. These images look kind of familiar:
