I was watching the livestream when she gave out the number by accident. She was going through the menus, someone vocally asked for the number when she was at that menu, and she seemed to give it out without thinking. Then some people chimed in and said that it was a HUGE mistake (I don't agree). The phone started ringing off the hook and she had to put it on silent after that, though the calls did stop when she asked them to.

After that, several people asked for Howard's number, and she said "no, no way." I think that she was being cautious after how many people suddenly called, but it came off as a bit controlling/elitist at the time.

I'm glad that she rectified the situation. Everything is set to go forward, I think. I can't wait for the next revelation!

I surely hope it moves forward. It's gotta come to a head soon or its going to lose people's interest. the arg is already starting to lose interest for some people.

Here's a question. Why the hell did she give out the dead drops phone number in the first place? what did she think was gonna come out of that? And then when everyone blew up her phone number she was like "no way am i giving stamblers number!" seems kinda ass backwards to me.

I think it was just nerves and being flustered. Everyone barking at her in the chat wasn't helping either.

yea i get that idk it was just strange to me. Part of me was like "what are you doing?!" but the other part felt bad for her. harassment is never cool and its crazy how people can act even for an ARG.

Not to worry, there's always a backup plan, especially where a physical DD is concerned. Whatever the message is that will come through the phone, could be posted at FaPT, if the phone doesn't work out.
I really don't believe that the folks on Discord are really into gamejacking the whole game... that would leave a bad taste in everyone's mouth. Helveticat (Cat) seemed genuinely excited and nervous about how to handle the DD. She did what she thought would be best in the moment of excitement. At worst, the PMs can send her text explaining what they expected to happen with the phone, if it's gone awry.
We've had delays before. the Super8 ARG had a number of times where we waited for a few days at a time for progression. I use the time to go back through what we know to see if I can come up with any new theories, plus keep checking the IG sites for anything new.
I think we're fine, just waiting for the next step.

Oh I'm not really concerned, it's actually far more interesting watching all this messiness around the ARG happen than the ARG itself, at this point.

And I am using my time to do just that, speculate on what's going on. Everything's been pretty simple & clear once this got past the initial trailer & the Swamp pop weirdness, so it doesn't feel like we're missing something IG.

In fact, it feels like this was a train that was chugging along picking up steam and now, all of a sudden it has (hopefully temporarily) gone off the rails.

And I do understand why the poor girl made the mistake she made, although it goes to show all along it seems like the PMs are not designing this for the internet we have, but for the Internet we had 8 years ago. Oh well, I'm sure this is quite the learning experience for them. I can't tell at this point if they are rusty, or just a new inexperienced team. Maybe both.

EDIT: Ugh, I take my concern back, Howard's voicemail got hacked and people who left their home phone numbers on it are getting trolled & harassed.

This is officially a cluster fuck.

I feel like I'm watching the final death of a long dying genre. my small gripes with the PM team before are nothing, nothing at all. It's the players that are killing this. There needs to be a level of trust between PMs and players, and if players are destroying that trust, for everyone. You trust a PM when you give them your info. A PM trusts a player not to brute force or hack. But some asshats broke their end of the implied contract, and now everyone gets to suffer. Yes, I had gripes, but I was still hella fucking grateful that BR made us an ARG, and the dead drops felt so good! So old school! And the player base just.... I'm sorry Bad Robot. I'm sorry people are such shit.

Yeah. Definitely.

I mean ultimately this is why Jane Mcgonigal is wrong. These days the Internet can't be trusted to work together and not be assholes.

Granted, I already knew that. Seems like Bad Robot didn't get the memo. It's not a fun realization for any of us that grew up here, online, making friends and doing cool things. Years ago I met all of my biggest heroes because of Twitter (people you've heard of and I could brag about but I won't, you get the idea).

But these days I haven't been on Twitter in months because it's so toxic & filled with harassment.

This is a nice little niche here. Reminds me of the old days. Maybe that's why I've gravitated to it. Wish the whole internet were more like Unfiction.

I finally have learned why some people dislike Reddit...this was all handled extremely poorly. And the community is entirely to blame at the end of the day. As much as I want to chalk it up to poor game design...it really all comes down to those asshats your talking about Pixie. There was harrassment, SWAT threats you name it...So sickening.

Agree. PMs are building universes, players can - not have to, but can - destroy them in their pathetic egoistic vanity. They think then, they were gods, killing the whole world. But they are nothing but poor narcisses, caring much more about themselfes but about the story, the plot, the development.

So I won't blame BR if this one will go down. And: I admit, I see it again and again - unFiction was and will be the only place for me to follow ARGs. Not because I'm conservative, but because this community has its great mix of old ARG veterans, ARG newbies and everybody inbetween, who are aware of what we are doing here. Selfreflexion is a key.

I'm chilling in the Dischord occasionally just since VOIP is nice from time to time. I still prefer unF mainly due to how long I've been around.

Also agreed.
This is the only place I'll post and discuss things. After posting a reply on Reddit, I was attacked by a number of others intent on arguing rather than discussing. Everyone here will discuss and debate, rather than argue and name call. I was a bit late joining in on the ARG, but it was easy enough to catch up with the great format and great posts by everyone.

Agreed. I only follow what Reddit is posting because I have to to keep abreast of developments. If and whenever I have anything significant to add or want to discuss, it's always and only here. I've posted a few comments over there, but it's mostly just noise in my experience. Here, I feel like I'm conversing with like-minded people and I actually matter. I also feel like I want to get to know everyone here, whereas on Reddit, I don't have that feeling of camaraderie. Smile

I hope that the next development drops today! If not, then there's also hopefully a new Employees of the Month page to look forward to tomorrow!
