Wow.. I thought that that guy was trolling too. If it's really true, that's pretty douchey of everyone that called in and changed the passwords, good intentions or not. Who really does that?

I do still think that it was right to give out the phone numbers, but geez... can't trust anybody these days, can we? I'm sure that the PMs will figure things out in the end, but I doubt they'll be happy, and it will reflect badly on us as a whole.

Ach.... thinking about it more, to be honest, I can't blame them, since there are no leads for us to follow, and once again the game has been stalled. Blah. Douchey, yeah, but I doubt it would have happened had there been any developments in the game after finding the phone.

Edit: Yeah, that is what I am hoping happens too. Specifically that the PMs are going to assume that his phone has been hacked and run with it in-character. Howard will realize that Megan has never been talking to him/playing the game all along, and freak out.

I must say, Bad Robot is handling this whole thing beautifully. Plan B is in effect, thankfully. I want to see this thru to the end. I hope this becomes a lesson to people - you don't hack, you don't brute force! All the old school rules still apply....

Did something new happen? Or are you thinking of the phone as Plan B?

This is a PREDICTION. IT IS A GUESS OF WHAT *COULD* HAPPEN. READING IS FUNDAMENTAL Smile

FaPT /lifepreservinginformation/ will update with a message that says something like:
"They are watching and interfering with communication over the cell phone. This is the only secure communication we have left. Keep checking this site, I will leave further instructions here."

If you're saying the quick change in the security code once it was posted was "Plan B", IDK, I'd have to disagree. I don't think that was Bad Robot (just my opinion, but I have some specific reasons why I think this is the case).

It's pretty much the PMs oversight leaving the security codes set at their defaults.

Seems like a lot of these Reddit folks never went to the old school.. Shame.. I must admit I am blown away (not in a good sense) at the Veruka Salt mentalities of some of these guys.. Guess they just dont teach good sportsmanship anymore.. Its all about flexing ones digital muscles now..

I agree - it IS right to have Howard's phone number out there. Hacking the VM was something that was considered (I think) because people wondered if there might be other important messages for Howard (like from a Tagruato exec or something). Not specifically to hack for hacking sake & be a douche. At least I hope that was the case.

The PMs should be able to regain access, but I don't think this reflects that badly on everyone. Honestly, the PMs were kind of sloppy leaving the security code at its default setting. Especially after they knew the SIM leaderboard had been hacked.

I also don't think the ARG is stalled. It's pace is also up to the PMs. If they'd wanted the phone numbers to lead anywhere over the weekend, or have any new trails pop up, they would have released them. I doubt this little mini-hack did much of anything, but I hope it's a learning experience for all (for all of us & the PMs).

No, sorry guys. I'm in the car traveling (not the driver) on my phone and everything was happening fast. Someone apparently made a prediction of what the PM team would have Howard say, but I missed them saying it was a prediction. When I said "plan B" it was because I thought the PM had honestly decided to toss the phone concept away and just focus on the website. Sad as Dante said in not at all a rude way </sarcasm> reading is fundamental. But I missed the red font that said "prediction"

Sorry... yes it's only a prediction, speculation, guess...
To be fair, I put the word PREDICTION in red AFTER YOU POSTED... but it was there when you read the post.

To be fair, I missed it the first time, and commented similar to what Pixie ended up posting. I was rereading, as I usually do, and realized that it was just a prediction, so I edited it. LOL

Either way, I hope that's what the team goes with!

I remember back then that when the first ARG happened, we were more relaxed and laid-back. Now it's more "GIMME THAT SH*T, I DESERVE IT!" The bad effects of the instant gratification generation, eh? *(I'm in that generation too)* I wonder though.. can you even imagine when the anthology's already stretched out over the next few years and more and more people get to join? That'd be a nightmare! But then again, I'm digressing us from the topic so...

I still say the birthday gift is a dummy password, meaning there is none. It's just a way to make it LOOK like someone could participate without giving us the opportunity. Way back before the term "blog" I had an online diary at Diary-X, and lots of us would use dummy passwords so no one could crack in on a passcoded private entry. Think about it, if we could participate in the chat, what would it accomplish? A lot of noise, from possibly a hundred different "Megans" saying anything and everything, including good efforts and trolling crap. BUT if there was a 2 way chat, with NO way for Megan to participate, we the players would be going apeshit. We as a collective have proven both these things over the last day.

My hope is, this could be the code, which would be revealed at the game finale and which would lead us to kinda Chat Dad+Megan. Perhaps as inactive viewers.

I recall Star Trek ARG with that communication console and chat finction - we we're able to save Vulkan with the power of community.

This time it's rather 2-person theater play, so not necessarily a huge final, but the chat element could be important and so this Megan keyword as well. Another hidden chatroom?

Or it's really, as Pixie say, a bogus password, a JJs Mystery box.

Yeah, the PMs could post a chat between Howard & Megan, but in code or cipher form. This could give us a series of clues, with "Megan" as the keyword for the 1st code/cipher.

When the FAPT chat & then LPI popped up, I looked for anything that I thought could be ciphertext on those pages, and then tried to apply simple substitution cipher decrypts (using Megan as the keyword), and then Morse, binary, and a baconian cipher -- but all that yielded a bunch of nothing.

They haven't gone with anything more complex than the pic search for the "Pretty in Pink" PW & then piecing together coordinates though, so IDK.

Hi all, just catching up with this. I wouldn't be surprised if the answer to the birthday question was in the movie itself to give us something to close out the ARG after the movie.
