The Latitude: Email from Jeff Hull Email regarding invitation to The Latitude I noticed that The Latitude's main topic thread is locked , but I'm hoping this development warrants a post.
A couple days ago I got an email from Jejune creator Jeff Hull (who I had emailed with about the Jejune Institute almost a year ago). So far, this has been our correspondance:
Quote:
Jeff: Hello Cera. Have you received an invitation to the latitude yet?
Me: No, I haven't, I didn't know that invitations were being given out. But I would LOVE to get one
Jeff: Are you in the Bay Area?
Me: Yeah, I'm in San Leandro.
Has anyone else received this email? Or any news regarding The Latitude?

I watched the The Institute over a year ago and moved to the bay area not long after. I always loved it and today decided to check up and see what was going on. I just learned about the Latitude Institute and have been trying to figure out what is going on. After reading all of the pages (that are locked ) I am still at a loss for what is going on.
I would be interested to see where your email exchange goes.

Basically nothing was happening which is why it got locked--that and someone dug a little too hard and exposed personal information of someone unrelated to the game.
Interesting that it seems to have finally started after all these years though. Keep us updated. It looks city-specific so I can't join unfortunately.

Update Email about The Latitude Since my first post, I haven't heard back from Jeff Hull regarding an invitation to The Latitude It appears that I found out too late about an event in Oakland that took place about a week ago , having something to do with all this. Since then, there has been a lot more activity on the Facebook page for The Elsewhere Public Works Agency .
Additionally, the website for The Latitude has an additional link lablelled "INQUIRE" , which leads to a questionairre. I filled it out but have't heard back. This might be because it was for admission to the event that I missed.
I'm going to keep watching this. My main goal is finially finishing the membership application for the Elsewhere Philatelic Society . That should give me some more insight.

I had received an facebook message from a "Spence" who is from "The Institute's" Facebook Page stating that clues would be released sometime July or August. As much as I would love to participate, unfortunately I'm on the East Coast and it seems these experiences are only really done on the West Coast.....It would be nice to have something done in NY.

Some of the comments on that event are interesting. Might be worth someone in the Bay Area looking into the places and items mentioned to see if there's anything worth following up.

Is it all over? Seeing as how all other threads are locked I'll post here.
It appears The Latitude Society is no more. Jeff Hull has posted an Epilogue.
https://thelatitude.com/book/1
It's a good read and offers lots of Behind-the-Scenes insight. There are also links to Book 1 & 2 Synopsis.

If you haven't read them these articles offer some insight into the experience and possibly why it's all over.

Big new long read just posted on Motherboard:
http://motherboard.vice.com/read/my-year-in-san-franciscos-2-million-secret-society-startup
Get's really in depth about what The Latitude was how it's members experienced it, even mentions and begins to explain a little of the related sketchiness that played out here that got it banned from the Unforum.
Sounds like an amazing but tenuous experience that I am somewhat sorry I missed, but mostly pretty smug about it's inevitable collapse (collapse was oh so inevitable).
Ironically, it sounds like it was ultimately hamstrung by the out-of-touch demands of their incredibly privileged and not-so-benevolent benefactor. Sounds like the backstory of an Nonchalance project.
EDIT: more background on the article here:

I 100% assure you, there is not a single bit of anything in this article that touches on why it was closed/banned here at UF. In the interest of future diplomacy, I don't think I'm allowed to share the details of what happened behind the scenes here.

Yeah, I couldn't phrase that right. I meant it touches on the elitism and paranoia around secrecy that caused sketchy behavior by it's associates that seem to have resulted (from my perspective as a total outsider) in things like what went down in that locked thread, not that the article mentions what happened here, or has any particular insight into it.
I mean, you're kinda stoking my curiosty about more of what went on behind the scenes, but I've also seen enough boneheadery by these guys to get the gist.
