So, was thinking about it and there's two things that stand out to me:

1. People that just ask to buy the silver don't seem to get a response
2. People that ask about Howard and Megan DO get a response, but just seem to make Mom upset. As you'd be if you tried to anonymously sell something on Craigslist and all the responses were about your ex husband and teenage daughter.

This reminds me of RPGs where there's a right response that gets you the quest info, a wrong one that cuts off your chance at doing the quest, and a really wrong one that doesn't even get you the prompt to talk to the character in the first place.

I know this kinda thing has been done in ARGs before, but it's the fact that there are two different responses to two different exchanges that both get us nowhere that make me think there must be a third way that gets us somewhere.

A way that convinces mom to tell us more information without frightening her away. We need to get better at Catfishing.

I sent an email saying I would love some more info on the notebook, no response.

Thinking about the theory that Megan is and has been dead for some time.. It does make sense but I was skeptical since so many spoilers are leaking into our view I was feeling this was somebody with knowledge of the film suggesting it.. But the more I think about it, it begins to make sense.. Just the hearts alone after her name on the mailbox post and on the Composition book speak volumes to me.. Thats the kind of thing you do when you are saying 'We love and miss you".. I always figured we would never see or hear from Megan for the reasons listed (her mom has convinced her that Dad is nuts).. But While dad may indeed be nuts, it seems Megans death might be why.. It explains a lot..JM2C..

Isn't the Art School in Chicago the the one attached to this place:

I thought that was kinda an interesting thing in the context of inexplicable John Hughes movie connections.

Also, all of John Hughes movies took place in the same fictional north shore Chicago suburb of "Shermer" Illinois.

It doesn't help us right now. But it's an interesting connection.

Yep, the Art Institute of Chicago. Fun tidbit, I graduated from their sister school, The Art Institute of Phoenix. :3 Maybe I'm a plant... just kidding!!

I haven't gotten any responses from Mrs. Stambler yet. I hope that I do! I too am going with the Megan Is Dead theory right now, and that we are playing a part in leading Howard to become more deeply unhinged.

The hearts, though. It's possible, but I feel like that's a normal thing for a kid to do. It's what I often do when I write my own name.

Yeah I have not read any of the spoilers, but I have been getting this feeling from the very beginning, Howard seems like a father in denial that also has some issues from being involved in the Navy, he is desperately seeking a connection with his dead daughter thru the internet and is latching onto our catfishing as hope that she is still alive. I mean obviously you can poke holes in the theory, but it seems like the logical conclusion.

I emailed back about the silverware set today. Yesterday my messages only asked for more pictures and inquired as to whether the notebook was part of the sale.

I decided today to try again but from a compassionate and concerned point of view for Ms. Stambler:

Quote:
I posted this ad to my social media because I was excited to finally find a full set and was contacted by a man named Howard who claims that this silverware set was supposed to go to his daughter, Megan. He seemed really angry and quite unhinged in his messages to me and went on an on about how you were keeping him from his daughter and had no right to sell the set. You should be concerned for your safety if he lives any where near you.
Best,
-Cherry

I like this approach! Hope it leads to something!

(I also hope that this isn't some sort of dead end, like all of our other recently exciting leads)

Wonderful, nice developments. Craigslist, so super8-esque! Smile

I also wrote to her, waiting for reply.

Silverware Patterns

I haven't seen this mentioned, but I may have missed it. There appears to be two different patterns of silverware. If they are indeed from the National Silver Company the main pattern could be either one called Ten or one called Narcissus. I haven't been able to identify the other pattern.

enaxor!! Very Happy

I tried looking for the pattern as well. You had more luck than I did. I wish the Craigslist pic were better. Maybe we can write her and ask for a clearer image -- that's a legit thing a serious buyer would want if they are going to spend $500.

A quick search tells me it's "no such zone."

(As a kid, I always thought it was "no such phone" which makes not much sense for a postal lyric. "No such home" was another version, but it doesn't rhyme perfectly.)

I've always expected it to be alliterative, with "no such so" (soul) as how I've always heard/sung it.
Until now. Thanks for exposing fifty years of my personal Mondegreen.

EDIT: Enaxor!

I'm figuring that the picture can't be a stock photo, since it includes the Megan notebook (to let us know we've found it). I have a similar bronze ware set from when my father was in the military - they're incredibly not valuable now, like Beanie Babies.

So, why is that post there? Is there something else hidden in the picture? Or is it simply so we'll contact her/them and ask the right question and get pointed somewhere else, or get information about the story? Some folks think that the mother will eventually cry out that Megan is dead, but that's not happened yet.

I don't see any other things for sale at that point on the Craigslist map, so it's not a pointer to another more valuable object/kloo.

Stumped so far. We're either not seeing something that we should - or the PMs are intentionally holding back on handing someone the next piece of the puzzle via email. Maybe the Open Sesame hasn't been said to her yet.

I just did that, and some other folks have as well. I was hoping for another picture with something extraneous, but important, in the background.

Maybe saying something in French? I haven't seen that mentioned yet.

* enaxor * waves to danteIL and dmax, long time no see!

I also asked for a better picture and if she knew the names of the patterns, and if she had anything else she was considering selling.
