I'm happy to see that it doesn't really break the fourth wall and start saying "this is all related to a movie..."

It might seem - to others - like it would be cool to jump outside the rules, like with hacking, but the fun of the game is figuring out the game itself, not trying to break it.

When I saw this labelled as "tell everything" I was worried, but it seems like it might be OK. I doubt this was what the PMs were wanting folks to do, though, when they began constructing a plot line. ("I hope they'll tell the mother about the bunker survival game!")

We probably just sealed Michele's fate. I was hoping to sort of gain confidence with my semi-damsel -in-distress replies to find out if Megan is actually alive or dead. I'm leaning towards her being dead. But I'm definitely curious to see how she will respond to that guy laying it out there. I figure she might just blow him off as nuts since Howard said his wife didn't believe him about it all.

Well, we know about this email, but the mother doesn't have to respond or acknowledge. If, like so many other mails, it's not an acceptable possibility in the world that the PMs have made, they'll just ignore it.

True enough.

Not sure if this is the right place to put this or on the phone dead drop thread (since it kind of applies to both) but helveticattI just posted to reddit:

Just tried calling Howard in my usual daily check to see if he'd answer and the line cuts off and beeps three times. Looks like they've begun cutting communication just like he said.

Haha, amazing developments, just read everything I missed since page 12. I will send an email myself and see what sort of response I get, it's gonna be amusing for sure, given what I've read here so far. That response about his temper seems perfect to reply back with one of these edited pics of John Goodman partying or having fun just to see what happens.

I don't think the pattern is important if this response from reddit is true (there was no screen capture)

Quote:
"Thank you. I wish I didn't have to sell it. But it comes with a lot of bad memories. I'm not sure what the pattern is."

It's likely to be something that one of the PMs had around their house. I have one made of bronze, really.

So the key is that it's really in game (hence the notebook) and now we have a communication link to the ex-wife.

What we're missing is the Secret Word that gets her to trust and tell us something we need to know.

So, my best guess is that the Craigslist map somehow aggregates listings (possibly that don't have a pre-fixed location) onto certain clusters. If someone else could check and confirm that'd be great.

This is a little late, but I did create a craigsilst ad for Chicago, and did NOT enter an address or add a map to the listing. CL does require at the very least a ZIP Code, so I used the one for that area (60605), and the map location DID default to that exact same spot.

Just to double check, I changed the ZIP to 60606, and it defaults to a different spot (in the water!). So I'm pretty confident that the location of the ad is not relevant.

However, I did send an email and get a response Very Happy

There's only a handful of responses I've seen so far where she didn't get seriously pissed off.

I've watched enough movies about con men to know that this is what we're missing if we want to go fishing.

We need to gain her confidence, without letting her know what *we* know. That's only going to spook her.

It's not about the silverware, or Howard, or Megan. It's about *her* and finding out who she is. Once we figure that out, she might trust us enough to tell us more.

I want to get her to chat with Howard as Megan. And I want her to investigate the bunker.

Which was building on what I said about Catfishing. And I was *agreeing* with you and building on what you said.

It's called a conversation. And I had thought it was nice one until Rolling Eyes

Man, I'm sorry for contributing.

I just emailed to her again saying that I want to get to know her better (e.g. why are you selling these wares? are they yours? what's your occupational background?). I know this is has prolly been tried but has anyone tried to discuss Paris and the Eiffel Tower? Maybe throw in "I Think we're Alone Now" for good measure? Confused
Or chocolate chip mint ice cream? Or the Chicago Art House? Or "IT'S A LION?"

New reply

Just got a new reply, It is at the end of the conversation -

Me
Quote:
Hello,

Howard built Megan an underground shelter in the empty lot behind her grandmothers. Just wanted you to know. I think you should try to get there as something is coming....

V37

Her
Quote:
How do you know about Megan's grandmother? Who are you and why are you telling me this?

Me
Quote:
I stumbled upon website that Howard set up as a way to get in touch with Megan, www.funandprettythings.com/chat . That is how I found out about your family including your daughter and her grandmother. Look at the site.
Howard left details about the bunker he made for Megan here - www.funandprettythings.com/lifepreservinginformation
At first I thought he was crazy, but he left a lot of convincing evidence that something bad is about to happen. I think it would be in your best to follow his advice. Maybe even to reply to the chat as if you were Megan and see what he tells you. Don't tell him about me and don't reveal who you are.

Stay safe,
v37

(NEW) Her
Quote:
You're right, this does sound strange. Is this one of those fishing scams they warn you about on the internet? I don't want to click on some weird links and get hacked. My family's been through enough already with someone who has manipulated me to no end.

Although what you say does sound an awful lot like Howard. I want to believe that you're trying to be helpful, but how can I trust you? Do you have anything to prove what you're saying is true?

I will update with reply. Any suggestions for proof?

Does anyone have any ideas why Howard would have been checking out Craigslist? Is it possible he's been leaving messages for Megan there?
