Real World puzzle hunt - in Boston - for $1000 prize money
Happening now through Labor Day - there is a puzzle hunt happening across a few locations in Boston.

I wanted to let everyone know about something happening in Boston right now, called the "Summer on the Waterfront" puzzle hunt. Not an ARG, but a real-world puzzle hunt. Using a free app called Otocast, which is typically used for guided, narrated audio tours, a guide has been set up throughout a number of locations around Boston Harbor - the event is sponsored by the Boston Harbor Association.

The storyline for the puzzles has to do with Prudence, who was a stable-hand for Paul Revere. Now a ghost, she has been upset that after all these years, there has been no real celebration for Paul's horse.

Players have to visit each of the eight locations specified on the tour - places like Fanueil Hall, the Old North Church, the New England Aquarium...because the puzzles (which are PDFs you download through the app) are site-specific. They are built in such a way that you need to be at the sites to look around and find the answers to the word-puzzles and picture-puzzles. For the most part, you can't answer them without being on-site for reference.

Each puzzle resolves to a one- or two-word answer. The answers can be checked online - a "check answer" link is provided in the app as well.

Once the puzzles have been solved, there is one more meta puzzle, which will allow you to answer the question, "What is the best way to celebrate the historical contributions of Paul Revere's horse?". The answer gets sent to Prudence at an email address (revealed when you get the final question). At the end of the summer (Labor Day) - they will draw a random entry from among the correct answers and award them $1,000.

Some more information is at the Boston Harbor website: http://summeronthewaterfront.org/otocast

The app is called Otocast, and is free for Apple and Android. Links are on the webpage listed above...and also at http://www.otocast.com
