Here's a hint: Hexidecimal isn't the first thing you do to it. It doesn't make much sense just converting it from that string to ascii using hexidecimal conversion. Doesn't the order of characters in the string look very... Odd though? In what substitution cipher would all those sixes be together like that?

I got as far as that, but thank you. I had some theories about the arrangement of the sixes, but I didn't get anything that looked like a message.

I've watched that video frame by frame and get nothing. Haven't worked on the audio yet.

Ok - so I got registered. That was nowhere near as hard as it seemed at first. Everything is easy once you know how to do it, I guess.

Questions to the forum:

1. How do we access the puzzles for levels 6 & 7? Or do we?

2. Does this game seem really invasive to anyone else? I'm going with it, because it's part of the game and even if they wanted to do something bad with our personal info (which I don't think they do) I'm not sure how far they'd get with the information they ask for. It's all pretty superficial.

BUT other ARGs that want to mail you things or call you don't have the same...i don't know...tone as this one. I feel like we're being told what to do, or processed in some way. Maybe that's the point? I know it's early in the game, but I'm interested to learn what other people think about this and about what we might expect.

The whole "case sensitivity" thing can be quite the pain. I'm in! Looking forward to collaborating on these challenges.

Glad you got it

Has anyone had any success solving the Twitter challenge? I have noticed some interesting structure in the hex string, but as far as decoding it I've had no luck.

I have spotted a few oddities with the string but not got anywhere.... oh, you just gave me an idea.
EDIT: Yep, got it and I was on the right track with the theme from the answer too

Fun with twitter....I could definitely use a little collaborative assistance with the code string with all the 6s. I got the other Base 64 code "conversation", but I'm missing something here.

Twitter string challenge has nothing to do with base64. All you need is basic stuff in text editor and hex->ascii conversion

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Quick look at ascii table http://www.asciitable.com/index/asciifull.gif reveals that all lowercase letters start with 6 or 7 character in hex. So if you somehow manage to manipulate given string in a way so all hex bytes will start with 6 or 7 result should be only lowercase english letters.

https://paulschou.com/tools/xlate/

This is also useful tool for text manipulation but you dont need it for this task

dont forget to check text tools menu top right

I think that almost crosses the boundary from a method hint to a spoiler Smile

In terms of tools, cryptii.com is awesome - it does all kinds of conversions in one place.

Edited now the spolier is spoilered Smile

Saying what the 6's and 7's mean is a spoiler, not a hint: it's the one thing we're supposed to figure out. You should definitely put it in spoiler tags.

Edit: he already put the spoiler on tags.

I put spoiler tags around it, now you two (DR6, reesylou) need to delete your posts or quoting.

I'm still stuck on the Twitter challenge. I seriously think it's the meds (just had surgery last week) but I've been on the right track, I think.

I noticed when I logged in at LEVELS last night a couple new challenges were added. I'm level 5 and one was added above the first of three that had been there. Cool!

Still not sure where this is going, but I'm liking it. Seems up my alley, just wish my head wasn't still so foggy from surgery. Scares me with the time limits.

I'll give them this much. This has kinda galvanized a lot of people in unForum like I haven't seen in a while. I just finished the Gold Bug cipher, and I'm weirdly proud of myself for it. I've never actually solved a real cipher by hand before this challenge and while it took me forever, I... I'm honestly proud of myself for it.

I think I'm learning. The twitter challenge was nightmarish, but got easier with hints from a friend. The gold bug cipher taught me basic ciphering skills. After this weekend, I'm gonna work on the other challenges too!

I haven't done the Gold Bug cipher yet, as it's real familiar to me and I was anxious to see what the Twitter one was, and now the new one Look Closely. I'm going to do the Gold Bug tonight and document the steps to submit a good report -- it's so far the only one I'm certain I can do. Smile

I looked closely at the Look Closely one and found something but have no clue what to do with it. Sad That's why I'll stick with the Gold Bug for now. It's fun and I don't have to sit at the computer (hurts) until I do the report.

Submit what you have found, even if you think it isn't complete - as the updates to it state, this was going to be part of a bigger challenge. More importantly, submit what you have TRIED so they know what techniques you know and what you need to learn still.
